I love how you explain the films and slides as you go. interested in becoming a med tech so it's super helpful to see what kind of stuff i'll have to know and look at

Do you regret being in the field? Would you have wanted to study something else? Is it really stressful? Do you feel it's worth it being a medical technologist? Sorry, I'm just scared of my future.

@ 6:05 Trisomy 21 would be indicated by 3 red signals not three green signals with that particular probe set. #FISHEducation Hey Heather hope all is well!

Great video 👍 Just gained a subscriber. But Please I will like to know if clinical laboratory scientist are allowed to view the slides In a Histopathology lab there? Coz in some places, only the pathogist do the viewing of the slides which I am totally not so cool with.

Hey! Thank you for subbing 😁 If you're referring to the H&E slide (hematoxylin and eoson stain) then yes we get that along with the FISH slides (you can see at 6:14, it's the pink slide with blue outline). It's helpful because if we have a problem, then we take the H&E slide to the pathologist to look at and they can help us figure out what's going on and where to score from.

Hello, I know this is an old video but I was wondering if you knew the guidelines for licensure between states? I am worried I won't be able to find a job with my license if I end up moving to a different state.

I know some states like Florida and California require MLS and maybe an additional state licensing but honestly, I would just inquire about that when you apply for jobs OR find people on LinkedIn at the company or similar companies and ask them requirements. It's def easier with an MLS vs not. I don't have an MLS so it would be nearly impossible for me to get a MLS job in FL or CA unless I had a connection or something.

Hi heather! I am currently a graduating medical technologist in the philippines. I wanna go to the US to work as an MLS. How could I get there as soon as possible. I am graduating this June 2024, soon. I hope you will see my comment hihi

Hello! Congratulations! I’m honestly not sure how you could work here. Maybe some kind of work visa? All the foreigners who I’ve worked with in the US went to university here and apply for their green card or extended work Visa but I know it’s a lottery system. Maybe check LinkedIn and find a company that’s willing to sponsor you. Best of luck 😊

Hi. It depends on the company you work for and the state you're in. You might start around $60k and then move up in salary with experience. For-profit companies usually pay more as opposed to non-profit companies.

Do you need a degree to be a lab tech? What kind?
@demiworld1011
@demiworld1011 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you need an associates in either Clinical Laboratory Sciences or a bachelors in Biomedical Sciences/Medical Technology. Definitely check in with your school to see what they have this degree under! After you graduate, you have to take certification exams. But there’s different routes you can take to become an MLT.
