actually, it's become more of a game now than anything. John Mulaney, the man who wrote Stefon with Bill after the first couple appearances began downright messing with Bill by including random jokes that would make Bill break character. Every time you see Bill break down, it's because something John wrote (that he has never seen before) was just thrown at him on air.

I don't know... I'm not sure it would work as a standalone sketch, much less a full movie. If he were a main character he'd have to be either neutered or he'd be incredibly obnoxious. That said, I would LOVE to see Stefon show up in a cameo or non-promoted scene-stealing supporting role in a completely different movie. Just imagine him in a role like the LeBron role in Trainwreck (or Marv Albert's in the intervention at the end of that movie) or anything where he just comes out of left field (like he does in these Weekend Update skits). Or maybe he's just the random husband of some other character that shows up halfway through the movie, or the proprietor of some weird club that the main characters show up to somewhere in the 2nd act. THAT would be fun for me to see. FWIW, I would also say this exact same thing about the Geoff Peterson character from the Craig Ferguson incarnation of the Late Late Show.

It's definitely not the funniest part. But his I guess "Spanish Tv announcer voice" is literally the best impression I've ever heard. I don't mean Spanish as in from Spain, I just mean the language, I guess it supposed to be Puerto Rican? But it literally sounds like someone else must be saying it.

There's actually a writer who does it, and he doesn't tell Bill about all the things he puts in on the skit. Which is why he always breaks when he does it.

Anthony Martin There were more writers contributing to Stefon than just Mulaney and Hader. Yes, they created him, but it's a big writers room and he's a popular character, so of course people want to submit their own lines.

I remember being so annoyed with Stefon at first because the Weekend Update anchors would be so patient with this maniac who had the simplest job in the world, but I later grew to like him. It was especially hilarious watching Bill Hader break in EVERY SINGLE SKETCH whenever he was Stefon. The reason why he would break was because the cameramen would show these cards for him to say, but one of the writers would purposely change it without Hader's knowledge to make it funnier and see how he would react. I don't think I've ever seen a Stefon sketch in which he never broke character.

Maybe this is a dumb question, but, does Bill see his lines for the first time when he's actually in character? Because he's always cracking up at them like he wasn't expecting some lines to be there, you know what I mean? I actually love it though, it adds to the comedy. Stefon is by far my favorite Bill Hader character. I'm glad they added him in this episode (not that I was surprised).
@xChrisS41x10 жыл бұрын
Yeah i think Seth Meyers, who wrote the skits together with Bill Hader when they were still on the show, would add changes in last minute to make Bill break character on purpose. But i totally agree that it adds to the comedy^^ (Also: Great "Tauntaun" impression at 4:12^^)

The current issue with SNL is that they just lost the best cast they have ever had. Any cast that is going to follow up the Bill Hader, Andy Samburg, Kristen Weig, Fred Armison, Jason Sidekis, ect. era, is never going to be able to compete. SNL suffered this same drought with the brief Chris Rock/Julia Louis Dreyfis season. But as I already said, this was the best cast SNL has ever had, and I am a little unsure as to whether the show can survive losing all of them in such a short time span. Either way, I feel bad for the people who have to replace them.
@iwontliveinfear10 жыл бұрын
You must be young. Any person who has seen it will tell you the best SNL cast was the original cast post Chevy Chase, after the addition of Bill Murray. A very close second is Dana Carvey, Mike Myers, Phil Hartman, Jan Hooks, Victoria Jackson, Dennis Miller, and Jon Lovitz. This cast and the original cast created skits and characters that have endured to this day. I even have to give Chevy Chase (never really liked his "comedy") some credit for Weekend Update.

SNL already got Taran Killam. They should go back and poach some of the other old greats from MAD-TV. Specifically Josh Meyers, Ike Barenholtz, Ron Pederson, and Bobby Lee. Most still aren't really doing anything. But then again, only Alex Bornstien, Jordan Peele, Keegan Michael Key, and Phil Lamar ever really went anywhere after Mad Tv. I always thought that Josh was 10x funnier than his brother anyway.
@jaegergirl610 жыл бұрын
The thing is - I have been watching this show since it's original cast and every time they change the cast members people complain that the show will never be the same. That is until they change the cast again- Then everyone looks at the last cast as way better than the current cast.
