Not "most of lines". John Mulaney co-wrote Stefon with Hader but he would always sneak a last minute joke in the cue cards that Bill hadn't seen until the live performance, which typically would lead to Bill cracking on air.

Ben Stiller did host this episode. The musical guest was Foster the People. On top of that, Ben Stiller was a cast member on SNL...for about four episodes of the 1988-1989 season. He left because Lorne Michaels rejected his ideas for filmed sketches.

Ben Stiller also met Bill when Bill was a teen in Tulsa. Ben was dating Jeanne Tripplehorn, who happened to be close friends with the mom of one of Hader's friends. Bill was spending Thanksgiving with the friends and the mom invited Jeanne who brought Ben. Bill later said that at some point during this episode, Ben said something really sweet to him about how cool it was that they had this chance meeting and now they were both on SNL together.

Because he breaks in complete character! The hands on mouth move just totally fits in with the Stefon character. Apart from the fact that Bill is such a great actor who gets all the characteristics spot on, and that many of us know a Stefon , he is very relatable somehow. Comedy genius if you ask me!

The sad thing is, is that sooner or later this will be considered something close to blackface. Then again 40 years ago people probably felt the same way concerning racism.
