Another way to plug a brake line is to remove it from the wheel cylinder, insert a nail into the line and screw the line back into the cylinder. I never tried it on a Volvo but it worked fine on a '51 Willys when we needed that vehicle to complete a hunting trip 200 miles from home.

Could we think that Emma's high MPG mentioned on the previous WN as down to the loose float chamber mentioned here. Bore spec on the "new" calipers with the seals fitted may allow the extra flex/movement? A low pressure residual valve might fix the problem.

Definitely, that fuel consumption that saw Amy run out of fuel on the night section was indeed an alarm to check the fuelling!

I like the addition of the gas lift on that 140 bonnet/hood! Any idea as to the compressed length? I think I want to do that same thing to my 1970 142S, and maybe boot/trunk lid.

340mm compressed length, supporting an aluminium bonnet - so you'll need a heavier spring than mine...

@@amazoncars Cool, thanks for replying back with the length! I basically just need to boost the stock springs which I suspect are getting weaker with age. I've been bapped in the head more than once while under the hood as the engine idles. I actually had it close on a new/used blinker lens when I was inside doing multiple things at once. Destroyed it.

@@mathuetax I hadn't heard of the springs going soft, you're right that this will just assist nicely!

@@amazoncars Yah, I suspect the hood on my 142S has been opened up and closed ....extensively.... over its life. In the first few months I had it I replaced both door latches and in the process found that the strike plates on both sides had fatigue fractures. It has not had an easy life.
