I don't understand the hate for this song. It seems like one of the most lyrically complex songs in Weezer's catalogue, and it's pretty unique for them, musically.
@rohiogerv228 жыл бұрын
Not only that, but it's pretty meta. Like, it leads you on, making you think it's going to be full of a bunch of generalizations about women. But it ends up being about one specific powerful, sweaty woman in overalls, some cannolis, and an inane perversion of the biblical story of the creation of woman. It's almost as if Rivers is telling us, without using brute force, that women are awesome, but it's impossible to provide a general set of reasons why, because they're all different.

@marleee.21748 жыл бұрын
eggsBenedict I did and perhaps misogyny isn't the word I'm looking for. However the song does praise a woman mainly for the sake of sexuality (and baking skills). Specifically referring to lines "she's so big", "I wish that I could get to know her better but meeting up in real life would cause the illusion to shatter" and the big one "looking at the underwear page of the sears catalog like when I was 14/I'm levitating like a magnet turned the wrong way around" Misogynistic- no Sexualization of Girls- yes
@marleee.21748 жыл бұрын
eggsBenedict and don't get me wrong. I'm not discrediting the fact that they also praise women for being caring (which is pretty cool). And I'm also not denying the fact that women don't ever sexualize men (like it does happen for both sexes) but I am just pointing out the fact that the song does indeed sexualize women

+Beyond ARTV I've only watched it one time, but haha... it seems the video counteracts the lyrics. For a song that ostensibly praises women, there's not that many women in this. And there's a lot of jamming dick-sized stuff in his mouth, then *cough* smooching creamy stuff all over his face. Haha. I'll have to look at the lyrics of the verses more closely. At first blush it's a bit self-deconstructing.

I'm so conflicted about this video. The song is brilliant--some of the best lyrics I've heard in a pop song in years--but man, I don't ever want to watch that guy eat a cannoli again. There might be some message here about how the beautiful, intelligent women in our lives are often forced to put up with childish antics performed by man-boys, but those same man-boys are not likely to take that message to heart by watching this...as demonstrated by some of the comments here.
@MadeInAmerica.2 жыл бұрын
First off all of the comments here are praising this song for its lyrical genius but also insulting people is petty, and this video is more about how those beautiful intelligent woman in our lives happen to help us and keep us in check, not just “put up” with us.

Weezer has always been about big, fun hooks with usually quirky intros and really cool verses and bridges to compliment them. Sometimes the lyrics are clever, sometimes they are oddly specific, sometimes they are genuine, and sometimes they are humorous and sarcastic, and sometimes they are sad. People who have constructed this mythological narrative about the band have simply blinded themselves from seeing the band as they always have been. But that doesn't matter, because the real fans know what's up.
@mynameistaquito52869 жыл бұрын
The religious references were also in "Everybody Needs Salvation." Interesting, maybe that will be a recurring theme on the next album? The two songs seem to compliment each other sonically when listened to back-to-back. Also, digging the keyboard in both songs.

I wouldn't call their early work grunge by any means. Second wave emo? Maybe. But not grunge.
@13dirty6669 жыл бұрын
+FUNKe Pinkerton is the closest thing they've done to Grunge and I'd only consider one or two songs off that album as Grunge. They've always written pop songs, it's just they've done a great job at making them accessible to an underground audience

I love it. I heard it on Pandora and wasn't sure who it was at first but I eventually realized that it was River's singing. I think it's their best since Pinkerton. Interesting lyrics too.

whats with all the dislikes? I mean sure the first 42 seconds of lyrics were kind of weird. but Weezer is known for that

Does anybody else actually love this song? Like other people have said, it takes a few listens and it grows on you, but my god it's good

I really don't understand why people think they are selling out. This is not a poppy sounding song, its honestly nice to hear them doing something that sounds good and isn't so derivative of their earlier sound.

When i found out that Pinkerton was very unpopular at release I as appalled. However when I first listened to this song and was irritated and disappointed to later come to find that the song had grown on me I finally realized how Pinkerton was unpopular. Kudos Weezer.

Please tell me the rumors are true that this was written in 2010? It's alright but I would like this a lot more if I didn't know EWBAITE existed.

It wasn't written in 2010, it's post-EWBAITE. Only the title is from 2010. It reflects River's recent "stream of consciousness" poems from tumblr in some ways

A lot of love and support here, cept for the cry babies whining for idk what. This song is amazing. Weezer never stopped being a fantastic band. It's a shame they have some shitty fans. Plus it's their band, they make what they want to make.

+Miss Jackson Is Nasty At The Phandom Literally my first thought when I listened to this song. Fun fact is that Rivers co-composed "Victorious" with Brendon.
