I'm not buying "you will own nothing and be happy" Dosnt the WEF women know once a company owns your washing machine they can also charge you any price they want and the monthly fees could go up anytime they feel like it exponentially. For example, look how many times Net flix has gone up. Not to mention the service fees on top if your machine breaks down.

Most Americans have no issue with the US having 750 military bases around the world, costing trillions of $s each year. But ask them should we make universal healthcare free, or make higher education free for everyone, or help the homeless? And in most cases the answer is a resounding heck no, not with my tax $s. So let me ask you this then. If you don't care about your fellow American enough to improve their lives, why would you ever imagine that your politicians would care about you? They are much farther from you than you are from the homeless guy living under a bridge. In fact to the politicians and the 1%ers you are one and the same. That's why I have no hope for the US.

Single-Garage Villas now cost more than large family homes on 1/4 acre blocks from a decade ago.

Trouble with Australia is that China has been feeding the Aussie economy for more than 2 decades with annual trade balance in Aussie favor , but suddenly becoming anti-China. So China curtails business with Australia and as a result Aussie suffers from substantial loss of revenue. It is strange that Aussie politicians don't realize it is permanently in Asia and its biggest customer is China and yet wanting to treat the customer as an enemy. Why bite the hands that feed you? Not only that, if you rent products, you become a slave to them. You have to keep paying the monthly nut for the duration of the contract. Mortgage and car payments are bad enough. They actually make sense. Over the long term, the property increases in value, so the mortgage payment is a type of investment. On the other hand, leasing a car makes sense because in most cases, the car depreciates faster than you can pay it off. The argument that if everyone rented products instead of owning them would make them cheaper is ridiculous. It would not change the price. The manufacturing parameters would not change. It would just mean more money in the pockets of the manufacturers.

The poverty in USA is an utter disgrace. I visited USA and I was shocked at the richest country in the world with so much poverty. Outside of where Billionaires live, the Civic Infrastructures were poor, neglected and in huge need for repairs or replacements. Their Civic Services are the most expensive in any developed world. This is what happens in a Corporatist Country like USA, that have their Politicians predominantly Corporate Lawyers (who call themselves 'law makers') whose first point of call when there are Civic structural issues, to address the interests of the Corporations and not the interest of their own people (China's government is predominantly made up of Engineers, Mathematics, Scientist, etc. President Xi is an ENGINEER not a Corporate lawyers ... these are the politicians are government needs ... the ones that can PROBLEM solve. In USA, a bridge collapsed that save commuters 2 hours of driving across a river to get to work. 10 years later, it is still not fixed because of the amount of Legal requirement required and corporate interest to get approval from. A similar thing happened in China. The Engineer Politicians sent all the resources immediately to the location and had the bridge rebuild within ONE DAY). As are result of 1% of USA's population owning 90% of the Country's wealthy, 70 Million USA citizens live in poverty (such as Street People in Kensington Philadelphia, Tent People in Venice Beach California, Caravan People in Kentucky, Car People in Miami, Sewer People in New York City and Las Vegas, etc.).

For instance, our University Students, like in USA, graduate with an average of an $80,000 student debt. Our GREATEST brains are being punished before they even start. There are tens of thousands that never get to practice their profession and share the gifts they've got for the rest of us in society, because they get caught up doing menial work that anyone can do ... and they may end up doing 2 or 3 of these menial jobs just to stay financially afloat. The statistic says overseas migration for 2022-23 518.000 people, Migrant arrival increased 73% to 737.000 From 427,000 arrivals a year ago. Here comes the twist largest group of migrants arrivals was TEMPORARY VISA Holders with 554,000 people. Migrant departures decreased 2% to 219,000 from 223,000 departures a year ago. First of all l distrust these numbers as there are to many lies about everything in mainstream media, and governmental statistics. Still if it is true 554,000 minus 219,000 make 335,000 new arrivals. Next consideration, if you want to live, where do you go with all these wars, sanctions, misery everywhere? Why do you blame people, families fleeing their countries for security, for food, and housing. Did not your family do the same. This country has become a heartless Stone faced selfish society. Why don’t you encourage our government to make our foreign Politics peace, and prosperity politics, instead of supporting these wars, buying from the USA submarines for 60 billion, and reducing productivity, exporting almost nothing, having no industries, and buying, importing almost everything we need. The USA is laughing at us, using us as backyard to invest, and buy us out. Second, why do we support all these wars, sanctions, etc. instead of promoting peace, being ambassadors for peace, and fair trade, making friends with developing countries, supporting them, that the citizens of these countries can stay home and make a living in their native country. Internationally we don’t exist. Third, our problems are much deeper than immigrants. Who is working here in the building, in other producing industries almost no one. We have become a agrarian country, refusing to build factories to produce things from our natural resources. We export some, but do not produce end products. That’s why China has become so economical efficient, and rich to lift their citizens out of poverty, because of the high production, the end products. One can see in all the comment sections, that the education, and self thinking of people has become the lowest ever in the West. And the politicians have no idea, how to run a country to wellbeing, and prosperity. And they don’t understand, if their citizens have no money, they cannot buy, if the citizen cannot buy goods, the goods will rot, and the country will rot also. It’s not difficult to figure this out. Good day, 🦘🐨 Instead of shifting blames, you should analyse the achievements of our recent governments, including the horrendous forcing the working class into these “immunity” injections, now slowly surfacing the long term damages. Good day, 😇🌏

This also creates a shortage in the amount of homes available on the market. However I am concerned that if home prices continue rising, my property taxes will inevitably become unaffordable. Which makes me think maybe I should sell, use my equity to buy 40 acres with low taxes, stick a manufactured home on it, set up my own solar, grow my own food and free myself from the chains of the system.

Something that might be worth mentioning is that statistically, across all age groups, there is a large disparity between the mean and median income/net worth levels. This is an indication of very large income inequality. This most likely plays into the fact that housing is becoming more and more unaffordable. We can argue back and forth as to why and how to solve it, but at the end of the day, we're becoming a nation of haves and have nots. The end result is most likely civil unrest when enough people are driven to desperation due to their economic status. At that point, pointing fingers at who to blame and why becomes meaningless.

I am retired now, but I worked in the home construction industry. There is no incentive to build affordable homes. Let’s say a developer buys 100 acres of raw land and divides it up into individual home plots. They will make much more money building $500k++ homes on each lot than if they were to build $150k starter homes. They also must consider the vastly increased permitting these days. A permit to connect to the sewer main line used to be around $50 years ago. Today that permit could be $2800 in many areas. Other permits and fees have also risen sharply. So it just doesn’t make much sense to build affordable housing. A major problem I ran into trying to demolish urban center homes and building new is most cities won’t all a developer to build on a cleared lot because those lots are now considered too small for homes. So they insist you buy two adjacent lots, demolish both homes, and build one home on those lots. Not economically viable. Homelessness is a problem. But we closed most residential mental health facilities and went to out patient care. At the same time courts ruled that people couldn’t be forced to take medications or even treatment. Couple that with a lack of followup care and a lack of cheap housing and you get homelessness. Add to that many people who are homeless for economic reasons and you have a crisis.

It would make sense to build smaller affordable homes if this country did not allow venture capitalists to buy them, or rich foreign investors. Using housing as a Wall Street casino keeps the prices up and don’t reflect the true economy for everyone else.

@@gertrudewest4535 venture capitalists and foreign investment are simply symptoms of the housing shortage. Every year we needabout 4 million new homes, but for almost a decade we’ve only built about 1 million per year. The frog and the boiling pot syndrome. Here in Canada, the housing phenomenon has been going on for possibly the past 10 years. With each succeeding year becoming more astounding. The rapid price escalation came to a rather abrupt halt about 2 years ago, with prices declining modestly since, with the increase in mortgage rates. Housing availability is still limited, rents are high, and product is limited. More than ever, two good salaries are needed to even afford a starter home. Even to suggest that a hidden hand is behing the happenings as opposed to normal course economics results in accusations of conspiracy theorist. Personally, we were beneficiaries of the madness, but far and away, many more are victims.

That's because the illegals get handouts. Americans have to fend for themselves. It's the same deal in Canada. We don't see Africans and Muslims on the street. We see white guys.

True, but both cars are depreciating in value. Unless you own an older used car, you are losing money just as fast as he is. You just don't realize it until it comes time to trade it in or sell it. Also, if you have a more expensive car, as soon as you have an accident, your car is automatically worth 25% less. It is more cost effective to lease luxury cars.

"If the company owns it"... then the company also decides the conditions of using and take it away from you if you do not act according to their demands. A great way of how to turn free people to obedient slaves.

A business that rents out a house gets to depreciate the house and write off improvements as business expenses on its income tax. A private individual does not. Both can write off property tax. Given that, the idea of home ownership for families is a dying economic group.

When last I lived in the U$, my rent was $735 for a one-BR. Returning for a visit a few years later, nearly fell out of my chair at my son's $1465 2BR price tag, unfurnished, no utilities. I pay $400 for a fully furnished 2BR flat in my current location, which includes water and heat. Rent has gone up $25 in 5 years. You couldn't pay me to return to live in that dystopia. No matter how much my fam wants me back on those shores.

Thank you for bringing these issues forward for our consideration as the national news outlets have no insensitive to do so. It's strange to me that the cost of one atomic aircraft carrier could be used to jump start tens of thousands of modest starter homes that our young people need today. It should also be recognized that such a huge carrier can now be seriously damaged or destroyed by a single smart missile or similar devise sent on its way from hundreds of miles by well, who really knows who these days. if we are to continue as a great country, we need to get our priorities in line with our collective needs. Thanks for providing this fine program.

Before getting social security, I poured every dollar I earned from my wages and every dollar from my unemployment benefits into social security. Then when I found myself unemployed from ages 54-61, I desperately petitioned for supplemental benefits. All my efforts had been ruined and I knew $500 a month would fail to pay for a studio. When my unemployment benefits dried up and no more money was coming in, I prayed that I could make the rent. The result was my monthly social security was $550 monthly and supplemental $400 - just enough to pay the rent for a one-bedroom "coffin" apartment. I pay the rent and light bill with my social security, groceries with food stamps and food pantry visits, bus rides with my bus pass (no car) and doctors and dentists with Medicaid and Medicare. In today's world, this is the best most of us can do.

My property taxes tripled since last September. They reevaulated my house and trippled hous much its worth. Someone bought the house next door for 5x asking price, which was an apartment building and are kicking out all the tennets over there, a couple of them just moved into that house as temnants last year. Lived here all my life but I can't afford this. I'm fighting the city on it.

I believe that one reason so many investors are buying into "tenants and toilets" is because we have a system that bails out residential real estate. The Federal Reserve should have been abolished for buying Mortgage Backed Securities.

It’s around the Western world, including Australia, that housing becomes difficult, and the homeless people are taking over the streets. But here in Victoria, especially Melbourne, the homeless could take over the many empty buildings, which are in decline.

Australia is stupid and weak. Hiding under the skirt of the US and obey all of it's orders. The US is a dying empire without clothes. Why don't you dump them and get friendly with blooming China? You have the natural resources, China has the manufacturing power, its the perfect marriage. China is not aggressive, they prefer peace and mutual prosperity. Choose life.

Thank you, Elena, for this important material. Kennedy Jr. has been talking about this for a long time. Maybe the population of the cities will rally and organize an independent struggle against monopolists, as in the film "This Wonderful Life" (1946). It's time for the entire military-industrial complex and TNCs to start returning taxes to America to the taxpayers' budget and improve the well-being of America's working class before they lose the spirit of heritage. But if you look at the picture of the future as a whole, then such an organization of the popularity of rent reform instead of property resembles an artificial diet for the poor, aimed at forced choice under a military contract for slaughter with preferential housing.
