This week I'm sharing why I will be discussing weight loss despite it being a "taboo" subject, why I don't believe in a lot of the body shape advice you see on line, showing how I balance work and wellness and the outfits I've been wearing.
Don't forget to like, share and subscribe - it all helps my channel to grow and continue making these videos :)

it's just another aspect of the clown world we live in that we are all supposed to pretend that being overweight is somehow healthy. Most reasonable people can appreciate that it is difficult to lose weight and there are all sorts of reasons why people are overweight. So while it's not appropriate to make unkind comments about people being overweight, it's equally ridiculous that you shouldn't celebrate someone's success in losing weight. You have a great attitude about it. Congrats on gaining better health!

There’s absolutely nothing wrong about wanting to lose weight to improve one’s appearance, it’s admirable. Thank you for your honesty, Maria, it helps us more than anything, and we’re all experiencing similar thoughts. I actually began my daily walks to clear stubborn chest pain from pneumonia, it worked. But, I lost so much weight that I just kept on going, for years now, and improved my diet, too. I had completely given up on weight loss. To maintain the weight I was, about 175 lbs. I ate only 800 Kcal/day for 22 years and didn’t lose even one pound! Now I know how powerful exercise is and that it’s not the calories, it’s the inactivity and the consumption of carbs and sugar that were keeping me fat. Plus-size clothing offerings are extremely limited and dismal, it’s all black polyester crap! I wasn’t quite in that size range yet, but I love having a full choice of clothing now, from pretty much every brand. I have to wear natural fabrics and love light colors and the best quality, so there was nothing for me in plus sizes! My wardrobe is very important to me, too, but I feel like we shouldn’t say that nowadays either. There’s nothing trivial or wrong with wanting to look our best with whatever it takes: weight management, fitness, great clothes, makeup, hairstyling, or even cosmetic surgery. It’s a Catch-22 these days, we get criticized for wanting to look good, criticized if we don’t try. I firmly believe that each woman should do exactly what makes her happiest (so long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else, of course, that should go without saying). I went from a US size 16/UK 20 to a US6/UK10 and yes, I am happier and my beautiful new wardrobe gives me endless pleasure, why not? I would still like to lose another 10 lbs. eventually, last year I found out I’m quite a bit shorter than I was in youth. So, I should reduce from my current 125 lbs. to 115 lbs., but no rush, my weight is ok. I do think my health could benefit if I lose more abdominal fat, though.❤

Great advice Maria and you are looking amazing I decided to loose weight 3 yrs ago and really worked on it I kept getting told “ Oh you are much too thin “ etc etc but I was so much happier I am 73 and had a n accident last December braking my ankle and leg which I was told because of my age would take me longer to get over I have just had an operation on my face to remove a Tumour and was told in the hospital how healthy I am and the fact I am on no medication I am also walking unaided much quicker than expected so my loosing weight and becoming more healthy has really paid off for me No one has a right to take your choice away from you Keep up your good work Really enjoying your journey ❤️😘

Health is an important point wanting to loose weight. I am trying to loose weight too with fasting for my knee pain. So far feeling great but not loosing much but I stick to the fasting. When I was younger I lost 34 pounds, the truth is I did not feel different, I was the very same person. It is tricky to believe if only you loose weight you feel great. It is a pitfall for women to worry about this, often their whole life long. That makes me feel very sad.

Yes I know what you mean about life long desire to lose weight and I understand that’s where the body positivity comes in to be happy either how you are but for me that was at the expense of my health. I think when you want to lose a couple of pounds to just look and feel better in your clothes it’s different to needing to lose a lot of weight because it’s causing you health issues which it was for me

Hello Maria, I am really enjoying these interesting videos. I wonder if you follow Melissa Murrell? she terms herself a stylist for the everyday woman. I think her job is probably similar to your own and she links all the choices she makes for her clients. Would you consider putting links to the clothes you show us? I find it a great help. Many thanks

I do always include links in the description box for everything that’s still available and alternatives 👍 I don’t follow Melissa because I’m afraid I don’t like the way she turns everyone “back into an hourglass” as if their body is faulty. I don’t believe there is a right or wrong body shape and that we are all perfect and beautiful as we are. Instead I like to help women dress the body they’ve got with confidence ❤️

I would like to know why anyone would behave like this towards you Maria. I think we all support body positivity but the most important thing to all of us should always be our health, mental and physical. No one should be shamed about weight loss in the same way they shouldn’t be shamed about weight gain. I a,so agree about the hourglass body shape. This is most likely a male construct of what a woman should aspire to. We just simply want to look our best and understand who do do that through colour, shape, materials and accessories. I’m very happy you have lost weight as the difference in your demeanour is marked. I’m enjoying the information sharing and inspiration. ❤

I couldn’t agree with you more. Weight-loss is a personal issue, and yes you will likely feel healthier if you lose weight in a healthy manner. I applaude you and am enjoying listening to your videos. I too am on a weight-loss journey, and mine is taking a but longer but I am still working on it. I am moderately active, and would love to walk more, but the aches and pains make it unpleasant. My husband went into longterm care 18 months ago, and while we never did really walk or exercise together, I find walking alone very lonely. I have not been able to find a group or person to walk with. You have talked about eating, and exercise on the channel, and you have mentioned sleeping but I was wondering if there are any additional tips, tricks or suggestions for getting better sleep. I have some nights that are great and I wake up feeling very rested and others when, if the dog did not need to go out for a pee, I would just pull the covers over my head and stay in bed. I also loved your comment on how difficult it is to find nice, quality clothes for plus size women. You are so right that they seem to all be made out of black, crappy, scratchy fabrics. I am trying to sew a few more things first myself to combat this. It is interesting that the plus sizes seem to be the ones that sell out first, but….why nit make more of them. Thanks for all your content. Keep them coming.

Thank you for sharing and sorry to hear about your husband. Re sleep I’ve tried to make a regular going to bed time and read a proper book rather than watching tv or Netflix. I’ve also cut out caffeine after about 3pm and I’m taking magnesium supplements. Lavender oil might help too. 😘

How beautiful England is! It’s been so hot here in California for a week, about 40C, that I haven’t been able to go on my daily walks. This heat wave will continue for another week, too. I could walk just after dawn when it’s cooler, but I need that time to get my daily work at home done. It’s 30C+ plus indoors by mid-morning, so I can’t do housework, laundry, ironing or sewing* and I can’t go out and goof off, either, in this heat. This is a problem every summer and early autumn, I’ll just have to lose those extra summer pounds when it cools off. I hate losing condition, but this climate can be brutal. I’m always at my thinnest right before the heat comes in June, but only gain about a pound a month. Still, our hot summer weather lasts at least five full months every year, it always seems like forever. *I do my own alterations and am still taking in clothes from weight loss, which I’m trying to stabilize for a year. I want to enjoy my new clothes before I lose more weight, 10 -15 lbs. max more next year. I can’t be taking in clothes forever, some are in their third round already, next time - out they go.

Thanks for these suggestions. Do you take the magnesium at night, I was using Melatonin, but felt it was stopping being effective. I think feeling positive about those less-loved features, that we all that have and we can’t change, is a good thing. Small eyes, short legs, wide shoulder bones, etc. we have to live with, obesity is different, it’s fully preventable and treatable (no, I’m not saying it’s easy, it’s darn hard). But body positivity just shouldn’t celebrate obesity like it does. Being fat or obese is a dangerous health condition and it can and should be addressed. I was shocked when my 21-year old niece recently told me that she doesn’t care if she gets fat! She should, if for no other reason, it takes at least a decade of life away. The reason we don’t see any obese 70, 80 or 90-year olds is that obese people can’t live that long, the body will fail. This is reality, so why promote fatness and obesity? I knew an obese woman who had her first heart atrack at 43, then didn’t even try to lose weight or get fit. That was a few years ago, I doubt if she’s still around now.

I don't understand how we can't talk about weight loss these days - we talked about it all the time in the 1970s, 80s, 90s and 00s. We kept each other on track and at a healthy weight. I can't stand all the disclaimers and caveats on YT videos. Don't be guilty. Be proud of what you've achieved. Being heavy/fat is NOT healthy - especially in the long run - the body positivity movement is doing women a disservice. I'm aiming to lose two stone.

@@Mariafsadler It's funny - I went to the GP and was talking about getting my blood pressure down through lifestyle changes rather than medication. He looked dubious and said (among other things) well you're not overweight. But I AM. At 5' 5" I now weigh 150lbs. That IS overweight. I want to get back down to 120lbs which is much healthier for my frame. I'm sick of all the rolls of fat around my belly and bra area.... I honestly don't think people can recognise overweight people anymore because it's become the norm!
