Your '17 GT has the same 2-pot "performance" brakes as the base R/T, and they're lighter than the Brembos already (the 4 and 6 pot Brembos have thicker rotors for more heat capacity, and larger diameter in the case of the 6-pots, and the calipers are a bit more mass too). TL;DR: Don't sweat the brakes, and realize your AWD drivetrain makes you nearly as heavy as a 5.7 automatic.

Another way to cut weight, and one of the best places to cut it, is going with lighter wheels. It cuts unsprung weight AND rotating mass, a win/win. Unsprung weight is the enemy of handling, rotating mass is the enemy of acceleration. Saving 5 pounds per wheel is like losing 40 pounds elsewhere in the car, and if you've got the bank, you can save more than 20 pounds per wheel going from a cast OEM to a quality forged 20 inch, and if cost is no object, CF wheels are amazing.

Really doesn't make much of a difference to go carbon fiber.. it's mainly just for looks. The difference isn't enough to really make a difference like these other options. Now if you went complete carbon fiber splitters, hood, all under hood pieces and side skirts you might save a bit of weight.

One of the first things that I did was to get rid of the factory pipes on my Challenger SRT8 as they are big bulky and heavy. I replaced them with 3in SLP loudmouths and consist of 2 bullets and there isn't much to them as they are much lighter than the factory pipes and a rock

I think lightweight drag Tires and Wheels might be a good idea as well. I run race stars on the front, and I run fr500 17 inch wheels on the back, as a drag only setup. I'm not going to change my brakes, but I will pull my passenger seat and everything else you said, plus lightweight front and rear bumper supports, a 40-lb savings

I'm surprised you didn't mention smaller rims. Generally speaking, smaller diameter rims with correct sized tires are much lighter than larger diameter rims with correct sized tires.

Whenever I get my redeye widebody (hopefully in a year or two) I would delete the rear seats Get sparco seats for driver and passenger Take all the plastic from the interior The center console and get a custom carbon pieces Full titanium exhaust Forged piece wheels Remove the trucks plastic covers Quick release steering wheel Remove the consoles parts for lane assist Blind spot monitor (etc, if it comes equipped) The battery and get a lighter battery Remove the windshield fluid reservoir While still keeping a stock interior car Just fine some lightweight carpet and headliner Carbon door trim Still being stock maybe that will reach under 4000lb 🤔🤔🤔

That was extremely helpful, the funny thing I just figured out a way of how to calculate how much hp my car gains for each pound the car of reduction! You just calculate the percentage that you lost of total curb weight and add it to your hp. You will find how much hp you’re gaining 🔥👌🏻

I think I understand the point you're making, but I disagree with how you're making it. Weight reduction doesn't increase horsepower. Weight reduction does increase the power:weight ratio, which results in both improved performance and improved economy.

Your math doesn’t make sense because you’re not thinking in terms of physics...hp is constant in this case as the engine outputs what the engine puts out; therefore, no hp “gained”. Think about your dynamometer and how it measures hp; the vehicle is statically strapped, so weight does not factor into power output. Think more in terms of performance, as your car is doing less work with less weight to achieve former performance output, so it will have more effective hp. The critical factor that changes in reducing weight is increasing your hp:wt ratio which will change velocity at a point in time by positively affecting its derivative, acceleration, via your car’s constant hp moving less weight.

Matt S so basically what you are getting at is . The car output far as higher HP values doesn’t exist . Although , what is changed is the amount of acceleration . And the amount of HP able to be put to the wheels of the car ..... and if so isn’t that indirectly making the car faster because of the acceleration is increased aren’t you able to reach a faster 0-60 granted the engine output does stay the same . But the amount of force needed lessens a lighter car would still essentially go faster . Correct me if I am wrong . Because I do see the point you are making and just want more of hard science to back it all

Great video and explanation, don’t have a Challenger but when I changed out my wheels and tires on my Mustang I especially looked for lightweight tires. I noticed tire manufacturers’ weighed differently among the same sized tire. I found Michelin PSS and Continental Extreme Contact Sport we’re lighter than other tires. Also, lighter wheels help too on the drivetrain with less rotating mass, I am partial to TSWs. Again, great informative video. 👍🏻

The only thing I would be careful with is the fuel tank, fuel injected systems actually use the fuel to lubricate the valves and running below a half tank of gas can actually cause damage to your valves and fuel pump in the long wrong just keep that in mind.

The front calipers and rotors don't weigh 50 - 70 pounds, and the racing components are gonna weigh SOMETHING, maybe a 40% weight savings, so MAYBE a 30 pound drop if you're lucky. That battery will also make your wallet lighter - lol

To be fair its much cheaper to make insane amounts of horse power from the challenger. Last time I check if you put 15k into one you could make 1000-2000+ horse power. So with weight reduction that could be about 0.5hp per pound.
