Dealing with this now. I’m 5 plus years out of gastric sleeve and I swear they are right. You can start to regain the weight. You can tolerate more food in the pouch. The appetite returns. I’m trying to get back on track. Life as a slim person is way different from being an overweight person. !! Society seems to treat people who are slimmer differently. It’s real.the weight discrimination is prevalent and real in this society.

Nonya Bidness thank you! Shit man, it’s about damn time someone said this instead of pussyfooting around the issue. I am 5’4 128. I used to be heavy(204) but lost the weight 6 years ago through DIET AND EXERCISE! I now run marathons. Sister decided to go the surgery route. Doesn’t bother to exercise or watch her eating. Wonders why she is lighter, but three years post surgery certainly a lot heavier than I am,, even with the advantage and tool of surgery!

Im 18 months out from gastric sleeve. I started at 435lbs and im 180lbs and im still losing about 8-10lbs a month but my dr said im just about to goal because i have so much excess skin. Im 5'5 and 34 mother of 6. Im not able to be active at all due to a back and leg injury so my weight loss has been all based on my diet. I have had a few issues like gallbladder and kidney stones, but this surgery changed my life! I had been morbidly obese my entire life. Im very strict with checking on my weight and diet. I also have a few friends who had surgery around the same time and their motto was "i can only eat a small amount so ill eat what i want" umm nope not me! I worked to hard to get this surgery so i just can't go off the rails. One medical issue i have with my back has caused me to have steroid injections and i noticed stalls after each and i just slightly lowered my carbs and calories and i would start back at dropping. I enjoy watching your channel!

Lost 96 pounds with the gastric bypass surgery and I am so happy to be back to myself again. I am terrified to gain weight again, this is why I stick to fish, vegetables and fruits which is my basic diet everyday. I am NOT craving for sweets, fast foods, sodas, etc. truly I am not and this is great. No more cravings, I make my own juices, I don’t go to restaurants because for some reasons, if I would eat at a restaurant, as soon as I get gone I will vomit everything I ate. Restaurant foods DO NOT agree with me after the surgery and that is fine; I don’t need restaurant food…….I make my own at home. And if people insist in giving me something to eat that I don’t want or need, I put my food down and say NO, so they understand I mean business. As simple as that. I eat to live, but I don’t live to eat, that is the past. Thank you Dr. Weiner for your wonderful videos and your wise advice, it is appreciated especially from me. I will buy your book soon and read it. Much success to you in your new location. Good bless you always. ♥️👍🙏🙏

Thanks dr wiener. I had a serious injury b4 my vsg surgery and I'm on lots of pain meds and anxiety and depression meds and b4 my 1yr mark I gained 20lbs really quickly and I didnt understand why. I had to have another spinal surgery less than 6mos after the 1st one. So, 2 surgeries after my vsg. The weight just seems to be coming out of thin air. You helped me find the culprit, thank you! Now to reset and actually change my diet and hopefully be able to exercise soon. I'm post op 3wks for my 2nd spinal surgery and I was getting meals sent to me thru a program in my insurance. It's all processed food so I will discontinue it or donate the meals to a soup kitchen

I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner. I have had VSG and have done very well (reading your book before surgery!). I have many patients (none that have had surgery, but am looking for help for them) that are on many of the medications you encourage us to be aware of. I agree that PCPs have such a short time, they give out meds that may not be the best (the pill problem), and patients that simply want a prescription to feel better. However I have some pts with severe schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder or bipolar I disorder on clozaril, olanzapine, depakote, or quetiapine (and others) and the meds are the only thing that will keep them stable and out of the psych hospital. It is such a struggle for them to lose weight, I try to educate them about gaining weight in the first place. Many of these meds actually cause specific carbohydrate craving. I suggest beans, greens, vegetables and exercise. Any advice for folks that have no choice but to take medications that will cause weight gain? Thanks for all you do to help people regain and retain health!
@apoundofcure6 жыл бұрын
It's a very tough group to get to lose weight - these meds are powerful weight gaining drugs. With the exception of schizophrenics, I often suggest gastric bypass if they are stable from a psych perspective. It's the only way I've had success with this group.

I had RNY in 2001 , starting out at 309 lbs to lowest weight being 132lbs . So I am 19 years out now. I can say I have gained and lost in the past 10 years . I am currently starting to re diet AGAIN and this absolutely sucks at my age lol. Looking back I did great until I had Novasure , while I have been told oh no that would not cause weight gain I honestly think it has. I’m not much of an eater . But when I do eat it’s probably not so healthy . Time to get back on track and get this off again . Revision surgery scares me to death noway do I want to redo this .

Dr’s recommendation is revision to RNY, but I eat so little & struggle w/ nutrition goals due to low volume. Meds don’t help enough for the reflux, but I’m worried about the literal ability to get enough nutrition after a revision. Basically question is whether revision is worth the risk in my case, when it’s not a regain issue. I had a HORRIBLE experience. IN the hospital- ONLY ICE CHIPS after VSG surgery for 3 days-- I *GAINED 11 POUNDS INSIDE the HOSPITAL WHILE ONLY CONSUMING ICE CHIPS.... I'm a lifelong vegetarian. At the time of my surgery I was a VEGAN. I *finally* started losing weight- PAINFULLY SLOWLY- But not only did a prior back injury require back surgery and my back get WORSE, severely limiting my ability to exercise.. But prior to surgery I NEVER had low blood sugar problems... Suddenly my sugar would DROP to low 40s and I'd be about to pass out-- So suddenly I have to drink juice or suck on hard candy to get my sugar back up. Suddenly I can't exercise like I was.. I now weigh MORE than the day I went in for surgery. Once I had severe low blood sugar problems- I *had* to go back to a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet as opposed to a vegan diet because o couldn't get enough protein to keep my sugar up. I had ingested such extreme levels of soy that i developed an intolerance for it. Want to talk about depressing???!!!!????

@alohalivin5564 жыл бұрын
but the same genetics that would predict poor weight loss and likelihood to regain weight loss would be the same genes that are in place that causes one to seek bariatric surgery. Would that not then suggest that only those with the non-obese genes who gained weight due to some other reason later in life are the only ones who would be successful with bariatric surgery? I mean I have two copies of the fat genes and genes that suggest I will regain weight lost.

After I was started on Levothyrixine, I gained weight rapidly, no matter how I ate. I'm having to cut back to severe restriction with food to get control. I'm still symptomatic and being passed around to doctors, none of which will do a complete thyroid panel. I am terrified because of the relentless weight gain, incredibly debilitating fatigue, and severe pain because of this thyroid issue. I don't want to go back where I was. I feel like a prisoner of my own body. (dramatic sounding, I know).
