To be fair, 'hermaphrodite' is a technical term, as some species of plants and even a couple of animals are capable of having both what we call 'male' and 'female' reproductive organs. It's just that through history it's also been used over history, mostly in politics, to degrade people who the speaker doesn't like, or don't conform to the most common societal expectations of masculinity and femininity. It's in much the same way the word 'retard' became a slur synonymous with the mentally-disabled because it was -essentially being a fancier and more specific word for 'slow'- seen as a more polite term instead of outright saying 'slow', with that original context eventually lost as the old word fell out of more common use and kids grew up only with the new word. Though you still occasionally see things like 'retardant' on clothes and certain firefighting equipment because that's primarily what it's for, slowing the inflammation of objects and clothing. Though generally 'hermaphrodite' still has uses in other places and circles and is used for its actual definition of being something with both types of reproductive parts rather than approximating it to being about trans people, so whether you consider it a slur or not is more a matter of opinion than stated fact. Generally you aren't going to find people using it as a slur unless they KNOW you're the type of person that'll get bent out of shape about it.

What a legend. This song came out when I was a kid and Weird Al was one of the only mainstream artists my parents would let me listen to, so of course I played the shit out of this song and committed the entire ramble to memory. Saw him during the Unfortunate Return tour a couple years ago, glad to see he's still pushing it and doing all the deep cuts (while I love the parodies, I love his originals even more). I was curious if he would change the "hermaphrodite" part, but he found a perfect way to make it even better, lol. Again, what a legend. Thanks for posting this!
