That’s exactly why I stopped being a female barber. I could never work with men and give them good customer service without them taking it the wrong way or taking it as a green light to come onto me. Men don’t know how to just receive a service and just keep it moving. They always felt entitled to ask me out regardless of how uncomfortable it CLEARLY made me.

No joke, I had a guy that demanded that I wax his testicles. I told him I would need time to think about whether I was comfortable doing it or not. I’ve done it to a boyfriend before but...not a stranger. All of his conversations were about his balls. And I finally couldn’t take it anymore and I told him I didn’t want to do it, apologized and he blew my work place up telling me how “unprofessional” I was because I wouldn’t wax him. Even though it was never anything I have ever ever offered to begin with. Gross. Black listed.

I was not in beauty school but I was in cosmetology at my high school for four years that was open to normal people Walk ins. I come from a very religious county and me being of a totally different religion then most. I got weird people singling me out asking for me by name (I wore clothing that gave away my religion like necklace or earrings nothing too big) just to try and convert me and be super weird and saying all this weird stuff. I think the weirdest one literally turned around and grabbed my coat and said you’re going to hell. I admit it’s probably worse in beauty school but dang that is one of the hugest turn off for me from doing hair. Also a PSA I have met people of this religion later on out of this county and they’re super nice they’re super polite so I’m not saying this religion is bad in general. That is also why am avoiding saying what one it was. Or one of the non-religious related crazies of my hometown wanted her clear hair to suddenly become jet black with lightning streaks in her hair. I keep trying to figure out what exactly she means by that and she literally mean she wanted like the emoji of lightning in her hair and started talking about her personal sex life. When I told her honestly that I could not do that she had an episode? of grabbing clippers scissors hairdryers you name it they grabbed it and just throwing it I do not know how you guys do it. You guys are either very brave or very tolerating.

Story 1: You handled that situation really well, especially for being in school still. I don't think I would have handled it as well. I'm more like you, in that I am spiritual, but having anyone attack my personal beliefs surrounding such subjects bothers TF out of me. Mind ya business! lol Story 2: Yikes! That's awkward. You can't leave the situation, so it's super creepy that he was being that way, regardless of whether he is just like that. I feel like he HAS to know that that's inappropriate in public, towards a young woman. Maybe he thought it was an audition for an Herbal Essences commercial 😁😂 Note: You make me feel like I am having a conversation with a friend and since developing a chronic illness, friend's aren't exactly something that are a part of my life. I feel like the guy in story two was saying things that were definitely inappropriate, while not explicit or personally offensive perhaps, he was clearly disrespecting your boundaries especially since you told him you were in a relationship. Whether that was actually the case is irrelevant. He should have taken your word for it and kept his thoughts to himself. A person of that age should know better but sadly some men feel as though they are entitled to do and say as they please. Saying he would love to take you out and wished he could get a massage from you in exchange is unacceptable and kinda gross to be honest. A date isn't a transactional exchange and you don't owe anyone, anything. I feel as though you were more affected by it than perhaps you are conveying and I just hope you know that, those experiences you had are not a reflection of your character, but of theirs.

The opposite happened to me (with regards to her first story bout the christian lady). I booked myself for a full legs wax and things went really well. But when I turned to my stomach so she could do the back of my legs, she saw my tattoo. Casually, I was asked "Are you aware that tattoos are gateways for demons to enter your body?" Yeah.. Turns out she's devout Catholic.. I politely told her that I've had this conversation many times over, and would prefer we just do what I came here to get done. Also. Was my first ever wax session. Also also... she was so offended, that she purposely missed a lot of areas (This woman had been providing wax services for years, according to her.. so I don't see how it could be accidental.. my leg hairs were VERY obvious).. Never went back there again.

I definitely relate to the first story even though I’m not a hair stylist - just growing up in the Bible Belt as a non-religious person. Everyone seems to ask about religion as a way to relate to others just because it’s so common, but it always catches me off guard and makes me really uncomfortable because i don’t want to just come out and say that I’m not religious because then it makes them stand-offish. It’s just really awkward and i wish they wouldn’t ask, but I know it’s because it’s a big part of some people’s lives

While I was still in still I got a lady with blonde hair who wanted a perm; she lied about using box color. She was covered in track marks, bruises, and she must of had a ton of earrings at one point and I imagine they all got ripped out and never healed right. Her hair processed super quick and I starting taking the rods out and it was MUSH. The hair came out with the rods and I take her back to the chair and she absolutely loved it. A whole nightmare. Outside of school about two years later I have a woman come in like five minutes before we closed.. with her dog and smoking a cigarette in the store. At this point I had asked my bf to come with me cause I was closing alone as a young woman in a busy shopping center. She puts out her cigarette on one of our retail bottles and lets her dog start running around the place literally. She says oh I don’t think he’ll shit anywhere... like what? I should’ve refused her but my manager at the time was an absolute bitch and would’ve written me up for refusing even this crazy woman. Not to mentions she wants waxing shampoo and haircut. It’s like almost 9:30 at this point and some guy wanders in and my bf says he man they’re closing up. He says oh I’m quick. It’s well past closing at the point and the woman says I need to find my check book. I tell her we don’t take checks even though she knows and has been with us before.. side note here my manager said I should have taken the check and still wrote me up. Even though it’s against policy. ????????? So she says she’ll go down the street and get cash and then she’ll come back and I can finish her haircut, I was like fine but when she comes back I’m making her pay for her wax and that she needs to come back tomorrow when we open back up. I waited a half an hour and she never came back. Mind you it took me about twenty minutes to close up and do numbers because those psychos let 19 year old kids close a store alone. Another time I had a strange man come in with his own shampoo and towel and made me wash his hair for a half an hour after he spent forever in the bathroom. Like 45 minutes. He just kept saying wash it again wash it again. With his selsum blue. Ugh. Another Time I had a woman freak out on me cause I cut her kids hair 1/4 of an inch too short. Her words exactly

When I was in school I had a lady that brought in religious pamphlets and started handing them out... she then left me an envelope with a bigger one at the front desk...

I'm of the belief that being an example is better than forcing others to believe what you do. If she'd just been like "well i go to church first thing which I love and then..blah blah" like that leaves a good impression about church and Christianity. You pressuring someone else and putting them in the hot seat turns people away and gives them a negative impression. You end up hurting your cause more than helping it when you try to be a savior to every single person. Live a great life as a Christian and be open about it and that's the best ad for having God in your life.

OMG this sounds so much like a woman who called my work once 😂 except it was all over the phone. I was fortunate enough to not be working when she came in. Apparently she left a religious pamphlet about aliens visiting earth or something at the front desk. They tossed it out like, wtf. I wanted to see that lol.

I deal with this EVERYDAY ALMOST, I am openly Atheist (I don't push it down people throats) but when somebody brings it up I don't mind talking about it. I also live in the Bible belt and everyday I get criticized for it. I am at the point where I don't care.

For the first story time, the way Christianity is taught is to question people and "spread the gospel" by saying you are a sinner and going to hell if you don't repent and turn to the Lord. My grandparents are very religious, I'm not though. They want people to make others uncomfortable so they will be scared into religion. It's weird and uncomfortable
