Meat platters in pubs/clubs is a traditoon throughout Britain. You dont hear of it so much jow, but up to about 10 years ago, but before then, a meat raffle was very common. I remember my dad bringing home £100s of fresh meat that he won at Dagenham trades hall many a time (good quality neat fresh that day from Spitalfields) this was common in the North of England too, because when i met my husband who is from up north i mentioned this to him thinking it was just something our local did, but it turns out that it was common where he lived too, his sister worked in a butchers who supplied local pubs/clubs with the prizes for the meat raffle (which wasnt as yoj may expect, the shite leftover at the end of the day that was on the turn, but meat fresh in that day prepared by the butcher) and also, on our travels around britain we have witnessed many meat raffles taking place. They get mentioned a lot in regional sitcoms/tv shows too. Definitely a thing that exists in the UK so not unique to Australia.
