It's like the judges don't watch the client consultation reel which pisses me off because being an asshole should have a bearing on whether you can be inkmaster when it is as much a customer service industry as it is an artform and skill-based profession. But my issue is inconsistencies in judging too. Any artist should be able to refuse any client for any reason. It is a two way contract of trust. No one should be duty bound or pressured by money or contract and that has come up before too. Business skills and apprentice 'dues' being tested by taking whatever you can get in clientele feels very disingenuous and not the correct way to build a repertoire of clients who come back to build their entire body art pieces, tell all their friends and basically become family until you as an artist are really part of the local tattoo community.

Exactly. It's one thing wanting to win a competition, but it's another putting someone's sight on the line because you're not experienced tattooing eyelids. Besides, having a face tattoo for your first one isn't something to be brushed over, he was right to say he wouldn't have done it if they didn't already have facial tattoos, let alone if this was their first tattoo. I was eighteen when I got my first one, and I wanted it on top of my hand. I'm glad my tattoo artist talked me into moving it to my chest, and if nothing else, my dream job requires no "visible" tattoos, and I wasn't thinking about that.

Nor do Gary Glitter, Jimmy Saville or Jeffrey Epstein or Harvey Weinstein lol. Though I'm sure back in the day plenty of artists, sculptors, and other celebrities of their time had their own scandals in their personal lives. I wonder what great art or music we'd be lacking today had all works by kiddy fiddlers or other arseholes, been removed from the historical record the way we do now. I'm curious to know where it stops, first it was reserved for the most heinous of crimes, but now for casual racism, intended as satire rather than to directly offend, and some years ago at that, to try and expunge his career seems like rather more of a knee jerk. When you consider that Ed Sheeran was in the media for soliciting tit pics from an underage girl early in his career, I fail to see why he has continued success while little Pecker, foolish and misguided as he was, now gets cut from the historical record after spending a decade promoting and hosting the show, for inappropriate behaviour. People as a whole need to start accepting apologies for things people do in their private life that get leaked, that are non criminal in nature. So someone said something out of turn, or acted the fool in some manner. A kneejerk reaction over any possible BLM backlash shouldn't automatically render someone's career obsolete. Fine for celebrities to snort kilo's of coke and other drugs, drive under the influence, shoot at and sometimes shoot each other and that's all fine, but pull a stupid stunt and offend a certain segment of the community and apologist corporations will snuff your prospects like a candle, rather than suffer any harm to their branding. Fuck loyalty and second chances, they're a thing of the last millennium. And forgiveness? Yeah, that too. It might interfere with the bottom line if people don't accept his apology, it might reflect badly on our brand. The reality is that we all fuck up time to time, the law is there for when it's bad. But personal behaviour, however reprehensible has rarely fucked people's lives so completely as it does now in the age of social media and the court of public opinion. There has to be a limit, while accountability and responsibility is falling at an alarming rate in every other sphere, the opinions of a few about how other people live their lives behind closed doors, now carry more weight than ever. Had it been pedo-ing, drink driving, sexual assault or a plethora of other crimes I might even agree, but for dressing up, no matter how stupid the costume, that's just too far for me. If Bill Cosby had dressed up as "Cracker man" ten or twenty years ago I wouldn't give a tin shit. The fact he roofied and sexually abused a girl though, that's something I won't overlook. As for Paramount, or whoever owns Ink Master, I think they need to find a balance. At the risk of losing a few dozen hardcore people in the BLM movement, most people will accept a heartfelt apology and move on, and if they don't they should. We all compromise over things every day to attempt to live in harmony. Taking offense at everything everyone does, even when it's out of your sight, is how you fracture civilization not how you improve it and take it further. When it comes to outright racist organisations and those who are actually against you it's a different matter, those people have no interest in apologising, making amends and moving on. But when it was never intended to offend, it happened outside of the new social media age, and when someone offers an apology, then accept it and move on. There are bigger fish to fry. Use your energy to make a difference building something up, not tearing people down. I dislike racism and racists, but even as extreme as it is, it's an opinion and much like arseholes, we all have them and they all stink. But that's all they are. Racism that incites hatred, that incites violence, that's a whole different thing and way beyond opinions. As for humour, it's different for everyone. Some like politically correct comedy, some like it with an edge, whatever it may be. Partly to shock, partly because people pointing out or taboos, our anomalies and our dark sides in contrast to the expected norms is funny, sometimes it's done to shock, sometimes because people can. It doesn't mean they're all racists though. There are levels of racism just like anything else, and as far as I'm aware he's not in the KKK krew. If he is, then much of what I've said will require editing lol. But generally speaking for what he did, it's a ludicrous response, particularly when he'd taken steps to purge it from the net when he became older and wiser, or at least more informed about what passes for acceptable in this day and age.

@@danielletate2662 Certain places in the USA that will be a large percentage of your customer base, but if someone lives in an almost exclusively Caucasian area and gets little daily experience with dark skin it's a little different to not being able to draw, or apply a technically clean tattoo. I mean I agree they should be a master of tattooing but some things are only learned through experience, like the fact that certain colours become absorbed very fast, that certain skin tones will darken or muddy certain colours but not others to the same degree. And also, a lot of dark skinned canvases want bright popping red or green and with that much melanin in the same layer of skin that's sometimes impossible. They, and you have to be realistic about how it will look healed and how often it will need a touch up. All skin is different, all skin colours have challenging skin types, but a lot of experience is going to be necessary to do good quality colour work, that actually heals bright and vibrant on very dark skin. Cleen is one such artist that did exactly that, but the majority cannot, and that's not just white tattooists that are unable to but artists of all colours struggle as it is a difficult ask. I don't think Kevin Laroy, Sebastian, Kay Kutta or Boneface would do great colour work on especially dark skin any better than most of the others. Craig I'm not sure, he actually does primarily colour, but I don't know how often he does it on dark skin, after all he couldn't do grey and black to save his life the first time, leading me to guess he doesn't have a wide ranging dark skinned clientele. I could well be wrong though. I think Anthony Michaels would be able to do a decent job, but again practice and experience he has less than a lot of other contestants.

@@dakotamonk701 Yeah, I attribute a lot of his success with dark skin to the fact that he is a master at really getting colour in there solid on any skin type or tone. Within the timeframe of the challenges there are a bare few who can complete on speed while also retaining quality. Deejay and Josh Payne are another two that get solid even fields of colour planted at a similar speed, and are two artists on the same level as Cleen, whether or not I like their personalities lol, whereas Cleen I love, he's confident rather than cocky and a little less arrogant I feel, personally. They all have a lot to be confident about though. And yes, usually the artist that wins can do almost everything, but I feel there were seasons where the winner was less crazy good than others. It's also highly challenge dependent, sometimes good artists go home early, that might otherwise have taken the crown.

It really bothers me that they did an eyelid tattoo challenge. That is so ridiculously dangerous. And if the artist was uncomfortable with it, that makes it even more dangerous. Extremely irresponsible of the show.

I couldn't imagine having my brand new tattoo critiqued in front of me😬 You could go from loving it to only being able to see the flaws whenever you look at it.
