If I remember correctly, the whole thing with the Michelin company doing the food reviews was to get more people driving. Since it started back when traveling by car wasn't very common, they started a guide of restaurants and other attractions with ratings to get people to go there so they could sell their tires and such. Also since most if those that had cars are the time were of the upper classes the restaurants in the guide reflected that.

I actually can answer the Michelin thing! They used to make guide books for different places (states, countries, ect) that people could use as guides on road trips. Part of the idea being that if they encouraged you to drive more you'd need to buy tires more often. So when people bought the guides they would know all the best places to visit as well as have maps showing how to get to each one. And the restaurants they included were graded on a star system where the lower end was "worth stopping at" and the highest end was "You need to make this part of your trip!" Then over time it just became more and more of a status symbol.

Simon needing to warm up his voice brings flashbacks of junior high music class where the teacher would play scales on the piano while we sang nonsensical things like "May me mah mo mooo!" Before getting to the actual songs. Also the only thing I really remember about Furbies is friends getting in trouble for teaching it swear words🤣
@noth6063 жыл бұрын
I put my Furby on a shelf as it was the only handy place for it and it kept kamikaze style jumping off it reacting randomly to something on the TV. Also had a tamagotchi and I can attest that like Simon says - it was shit. I let it die by starvation after like 2 days or something.

It was either warming up his voice and trying to avoid shouting, or a shock collar.

The Michelin Guide and star rating was designed initially to sell more tires. It was a way of saying to people with cars "you should drive this far out of your way to go see this or eat here." 1 star meant the place was worthwhile to go to if it was along your route. 2 stars indicate a small detour is worth the trip. And 3 stars, the max, meant it was worth a trip by itself. It was all to sell more tires. Your welcome Edit: Please let Simon see this so he learns something from KZbin comments

They took my identity years ago...surf shark can't help me now* As I load the last shell into my sawn-off I whisper to myself, "The past..." slowly bringing the barrel of the gun to my mouth.. Simon, I feel your vocal pain. I went mute for a week soon after the very first lockdown lifted in May and my voice STILL hasn't fully recovered. About 40% of my communication used to be loud or shouty, so it takes a lot if effort to stay at a safe volume, but it's not worth losing your voice just to emphasize things. You'll get used to it eventually.

As far as the use of a flamethrower we recently had a news story in Kentucky of a guy melting snow off his driveway with a flame thrower. It looked like it worked pretty well

Flamethrowers are actually really useful in the weed control industry. I used to work for a landscaping company and I regularly had discussions with the owner of the company about switching over to using flamethrowers rather than pesticides. It would have had the benefits of being more environmentally friendly than spraying pesticides; It's obviously quicker than hand pulling; and clears the weeds all the way to the ground rather than leaving little stumps as compared to using a weed whip (which is also terribly messy and can also be quite dangerous).
