That M1008 CUCV pickup originally had single headlights & all of those US Army pickups & K5 Blazers were 4 wheel drive & had 6.2 litre diesel V8s in them. Also I think they were produced from 1984 through 1987 if I'm not mistaking.

Love the vids, love the trucks top notch quality. Don't think 305 was ever only available motor from 81-86....always could get a 350. Actually not sure you could get a 305 in a 3/4 or 1 ton especially k-series. Lots and lots of 305 in 1/2 tons and blazers though. Like you first vehicle was a square, a 79 k10, loved that truck drove the wheels off that thing. Through the years since had a 87 v10, 85 k5, 77 k20 and now a 78 c15 Royal Sierra I'm building. Keep up the great work!

we try not to get to long winded on these and overlook details but we were going to say (but didnt) .. 1/2 tons are the 305 we were reffering to being the only option... and we cant contest to it be "only" option as there was the 6.2 also... but we can say we tried to order several with a 350 during this time 81-86 and it could not happen ... 3/4 or 1 tons were so rare but i do think you were right you could get a 350 there but again not 100% sure there either. We do know 5.7 started back in 87 across the board but we deff appreciate the input. We only know what history we can remember lol and that is hard

Just want to say I love your guys style on these squares. I’m 28 and just picked up my first square last year; a 1978 GMC Jimmy. It’s in about the same shape as the tan one you guys are selling (before you guys worked your magic that is) picked it up for $3500 and drove it from Clarksville Indiana back to clermont Kentucky and honestly felt like I stole the thing. Hopefully in the coming years I can get it close to y’all’s spec because man the squares you guys are putting out are bad ass. Good luck with the channel, I’ll be here watching and taking notes 💪🏼

That's what I had in mind when I picked myself up a 1977 GMC Sierra K15., bought it knowing full well it will be a 7 year project. I don't have the cash to go out and buy a $40,000 truck in a day like I want too but with a little bit of money and a little bit of time in 7 years I'll have Olivia on the road. Like you said it's all on what ya wanna do and how you wanna get there.

I ordered a 1983 K5 brochure from eBay because it had a K5 with a matching paint combo as my 88 (white-red-white). I was reading through it. 305 was the std equip (not avail in CA). 6.2 was option. It said only in CA, the 350 with new ESC Electronic Spark Control. I never knew that. I’ve seen some factory 350s in 81-86 so I wonder if the ones we see with 350 were actually California truck originally…? I’ve got a 1985 M1009 (same model as myself) with the 6.2. Head gasket is blown. I’d really like to do a Cummins swap. Time and shop space is at a premium now so may swap another 6.2 in. I’d like to LS swap my ‘88. Maybe a 8.1 swap in my ‘79 just for gits and shiggles lol. It’s in much rougher shape, and needs a list of rust repair and rewired. And floors. Drug it out of a field a couple years ago it’s all there but rough. This damn things are addictive. Wish I had more hours in the day to work on them and more hours to go drive em. Nice rides! 👊🏼 Edit: let me know if you get ready to pull the 6.2 Detroit. If price and shipping isn’t crazy high I’d be interested.

From what we see most all of it is generational shift where people that can now afford these that are in their late 30s 40s and 50s whereas they only dreamed about them as a kid 95% of our sales have been that exact situation. Customers are better off in life and now able to afford their childhood dreams or head on them back then and not able to afford to keep them as life change children came along single cab trucks became less desirable, etc., it’s not just with these vehicles it’s with lots of other things, the Dodge Viper, the Corvettes obs fords etc

Some very interesting history on those square bodies is believe it or not, evolution on them started in 1968 which was when development on them began. At the time, vehicle components underwent simulated testing on computers before the prototypes were built for real world testing. People drew pictures & built clay models of different truck designs to try to think what they wanted their next generation trucks to look like. At the time, none of the designs they drew & built looked close to the square bodies until at the beginning of the 1970 model year which I'll get to that in a minute. In 1969, a concept pickup was built & it looked similar to the redesigned 1972 Dodge fullsize pickup & originally their plan was to start producing the next generation trucks in the 1972 model year but got pushed back to the 1973 model year instead because other people didn't like the design on the concept pickup so they went back to the drawing board to try to think of a different & better design. Later on December of 1969 "1970 model year", the clay models being built began to look more like the square bodies & it wasn't until during the summer season of 1972 when a design was liked & picked, & that's when they began producing the real square body models. The real square body models were produced up through 1991 except for the plain cab pickups & medium duty series models. The half ton & three quarter ton plain cab pickups were the models they stopped producing first which was in 1987. The same happened to the one ton plain cab pickups & medium duty series models in 1989. In 1990, the three quarter ton crew cab pickup was dropped which made the one ton two wheel drive crew cab pickup with single rear wheels the base model on the square body pickup lineup. Also in 1990, new optional power side mirrors were introduced but were only offered on the square body SUVs.

@KevinRichards-my5oj

@DavisOffRoad1 in 1987, the C/K series were dropped & renamed R/V series & the reason for the name change was to make a distinction between the square body models & the upcoming next generation C/K series trucks which were the OBSs for the 1988 model year because both of those body designs were going to be in production at the same time which lasted up through 1991. They wanted to help people avoid confusion with the two different body designs. From 1988 - 1991, the OBSs only came in plain & new extended cab pickup models at the time because crew cab pickup & SUV models with the square body design were still in production up through 1991. The one ton plain cab pickups were the only models to come in both of those body designs at the same time which was from 1988 - 1989.

Very few people understand What kind of cost and labor goes into these trucks to make them what they are when we sell them. The other issue is there are still people living in a blue book value world. Blue book value hasn't been relevant in 5 or 6 years. Even more so when referring to classics

Not true about 81-86, 305 being the only option. 350/305/6.2/7.4 were options depending on the model, K10/K5's came equipped with either 305's or 350's or 6.2's.
@DavisOffRoad1
@DavisOffRoad1 8 ай бұрын
Again when we wanted to order 1/2 ton trucks with any other gas option it was the only option in 81-86 as we were ordering them for fleet customers. 3/4 and 1 ton diff story but as “our” experience you couldn’t and we even tried special ordering also. Not arguing the fact just know what we dealt with in that era
