This was randomly recommended to me in my sidebar while watching other car videos and although I don't work on cars at all (just drive and tweak setups a little for sim-racing too lol), I have to say this was such a high-quality video that I really didn't expect. I appreciated the isolation of variables and trying to make it as reliable of an experiment as reasonably possible. Good work and great video!

The harder the lock the easier it is to put the car into a drift. LSDs are used to increase traction. So you can use it for drifting but it's not gonna be the best. Welded diff is best for drift.

Would you be surprised if I tell you that you can do cluch-kick initiation much easier with LSD than with welded? Also, transitions are waaay snappier.

@RacingDiffs LSD is expensive. I'd get other parts before that one. I would only use it if I want better timing. But for drifts only pointless.

I agree. Budget plays an important role in making such decision

The diff in the video is that a 1.5 way setup or a 2 way? Which would be better for a daily driver that I still want to drift at the track?
@RacingDiffs
@RacingDiffs Ай бұрын
If you prefer a more reactive response on lift off, then go for 1.5 way. Meaning that your car will straighten much faster when stepping off the throttle. We personally prefer this setup. 2 way setup will leave some space for inertia to kick in. When you lift off, the car will keep sliding for 2-3m, leaving you some time to react.

A really unique real world test. The overlay at the end of the video is phenomenal, didn't think the difference would be that huge. A+ 🛞🛞🛞

I have a question please. I will buy this for my E30 320i m20b20, my diff is 4.10 in 168 case. You recommand to do that on 188 case ( bigger) or both is ok ? Daily use not for drift every day ! But sometimes a little drift or burn. Thank you

If you aren't planning to turbo it, then 168 is perfectly fine. We drove it on M50b30 without a problem

What stage lsd kit was used for this comparison?

Stage 2, 188mm. We wanted to be realistic, so we didn't use the best setup. We didn't use the basic setup either racingdiffs.com/collections/lsd-clutch-plate/products/bmw-188mm-lsd-differential-clutch-disc-inner-plate-repair-kit
