Production is the art of being subtle and doing just enough.. picture yourself as an audience member at a concert or live band ... the vision of pan left right etc comes to me when I make beats from that perspective

I had the same revelation a year ago when I purchased the X Con Pro X mixer board for FL. I knew that my productions were always missing something and made the same mistake of using filler sounds that didnt need to be there. I noticed that i always started out with a good track and would end up accidentally destroying them or transform the original idea into a mess of other ideas that didnt fit. I would end up with several versions of the same song that sometimes offshooted into a completely different genre because I would alter the other components of the song to match what didnt fit. Having my mixerboard and MPC key forced me to work in a way I was able to become more focused on the making the elements of the track I have thus far sound more rhobust before introducing a new layer by mixing and mastering as im producing. I used to always clutter my Techno/House tacks with unnecessary noise and it also put me in this mindset that genres such as drumnbass/Trap/Electro were more intricate and intimidating to create then they actually are. Being more focused on honing in the components you have so far in the song by adding/subtracting their individual fx/bus mix first before introducing a new sound rather than being consumed in the different ideas for what comes next in the track. Kind of a cliche but let the sounds do the talking, not your mind. Let your gear act as an attatchment of yourself and dont let the software control you. This took years of practice to have the muscle memory and understanding of my own workflow. There were a couple other things i picked up which is audio fatigue, if your listening to the same track 30 times tinkering around trying to diagnose your track, Just move on to a different track/new project and another note is to stay more organized with your mixer channels. Anyway, I was excited to relate with somene who has recently gone through what your going through after 15 years of producing so I thought to share with you my experience. I honestly wouldnt have made this discovery had I continued down the path of making music with mouse and keyboard. I am humbled that someone else who owns alot of gear is not affraid or ashamed to admit that you were still finding your work flow. Such an awesome feeling when that light bulb turns on, congrats m8!

Re: minimalism/tracks... theres a guy on yt named mario DiSanto. He's all analog, guitar/garage rock recorded to 12-tracks of tape. His vids are dope (and a bit of gear porn). They've been really inspiring/refreshing to remind myself that, at the end of the day +to me+.... a really good song should REALLY +not+ require more than 6 tracks-ish.

Limited tracks makes you zero in and only add exactly what’s needed for each frequency. This has been a great year for sound for you!

The discovery journey is satisfying man, especially when it clicks and opens up another door of creation. An ASR series of what hurdles you're encountering would help alot of new users to figure things out together. Experienced users could chime in suggestions/solutions to help. Sorry its late had to edit that in 😁✌🏻

Yep, every time I would watch the Jake One videos of how he made/makes tracks on the ASR-10 he always says how he ends up only using less than 8 sounds. In terms of learning the ASR-10 The Daydream sound has some videos and an online video manual of how to use it. I have the ASR-X also a great machine.
