I've found my neglected, condemned 26-stop Harmonium by Carl Simon Harmoniumhaus, Berlin in an old Wallace, Idaho church. This big pump organ [1898 or so] was bought by the silver miners there who wanted fine worship music and didn't need to worry about the cost, import duties, transport, etc. of probably the biggest, heaviest treadle-operated organ available. Eventually, it quit playing and served as a mouse nest for a while. The church was told it was beyond repair and "would never play another note", so it was sold for the value of its ribbon-grained honey oak cabinet. It took me 10 minutes to coax a few notes out of it, and I could have cried it had such a beautiful tone. This is a very complicated project ahead of me, but I am encouraged by Mr. Jantzi's " you can do it, it just takes time." advice. Everything needs work, it's a labor of love, isn't it? The sub-bass notes already give me shivers and make me weak in the knees.

Beautiful. We sang this at my granny's funeral. It is very popular at funerals and memorials in Wales.

I've been away from your channel for a while, since my Dad passed away (with whom I shared a love of organ music and enjoyment of your hymn playing) it was too painful for a bit. Now I'm listening again and I find you have recorded several recently that are new to me and wonderful to hear. And if a tear or two comes, so be it. Thank you as always for sharing your talents with us.

Yes, music and faith tie us to those who have gone. We'll keep singing until we meet again, in not too long a while.

Shown as "Rhys" in my Welsh hymnbook 'Y Caniedydd Cynulleidfaol Newydd', this was new to me. A hauntingly beautiful tune, and taken very largo as played here, it is superb. I shall play this tomorrow at church! Thank you Rodney :)

I love hymns like this one. My reed organ is grotesquely out of tune so they don’t sound as nice on it, but still lovely to play.

beautiful as always. It would be so great if you'd play some Catholic hymns. "O Sterre der zee" is an amazing Dutch hymn.

Here is a translation (not mine) of the Welsh words for which this melody was written. Grant me the peace beyond earth's understanding; Peace, heavenly peace, Christ bought on Calvary's hill; And when the wave on my weak soul is pounding, Here by his cross I hear him, "Peace! Be still!" O grant the peace no storm on earth can shatter, Nor ever weary, never once remove; And in the darkest night this peace shall keep us, Resting secure in God our Father's love. Grant us the peace to work for heaven, accepting Without despair the hardships of this age; Knowing that nothing from your love can part us, Although the storms about us here may rage. O for the peace that flows on like a river Through God's own city, by the tree of life; Peace after anguish, to the throng of pilgrims, Beyond the veil, leaving behind all strife.
