@salatwurzel-43883 жыл бұрын
There are the same "evil" people in this prison as in US prisons, murderers, rapists and so on. Germany just doesnt take away their human rights and does not treat them like animals and germany does focus alot more on rehabilitation and making them "non-criminals" once they get out. USA is just focused on harsh outdated punishment basically. What difference does it make? Alot less violence and a much safer space compared to other countries. But dont be mistaken. When they dont behave well while inside prison, all the "luxury" is taken until they behave.

@@salatwurzel-4388 Meh look at the inmates in this prison. They are all geriatric which is not surprising considering that the majority of Europe's population are old people. You couldn't do this type of system in America, Russia or Latin America. Those countries have really scary hard core gang members and super aggressive unpredictable criminals. And the criminals in those systems are actually made up of mostly younger men.
@salatwurzel-43883 жыл бұрын
@@Taffer-bx7uc You have basically the same privileges in EVERY german prison (and behave good), hardcore cases like terrorism and forbidden right wing groups aside. The "immature violent youth" gets kinda seperated from the mature ones (Youth Prisons, age ~16-25). We also have gang members, rival guys stabbing/shooting each other on the street from time to time and so on. (turkish clans in berlin for example, kinda like the "italian mafia" stereotype in new york). There are alot of indications that all the brutality and "3rd world feeling" in the US prisons is mostly the goverments fault, because your "style" of rehabilitation and the way you are trying to reintigrate criminals into society is one of the most inefficient and cruel ways to do it, compared to other western nations.

Also, the 3 strikes policy is not universal in the US, it varies state to state but most of them only count it as a "strike" for very serious offenses such as kidnapping or rape, you're not getting struck out for drugs in most cases. I went to jail for 4 months in Florida. If you get sick you don’t get seen by medical for about a week. Dental problems takes about a month. The guards treat you more or less like a caged dog; Indifferent to everything except that you’re in the cage. We were allowed to go to a concrete room open to the outside by a big iron fence for fresh air once a week. They would do group punishments (shutting off the TV, lockdown, withholding all commissary, etc) for things like if someone wasn’t wearing their clothes properly, sitting on a table, exercising, playing with a ball made out of a shirt. Officers constantly threatened us with DRs which are disciplinary reports that could extend our stay in jail. They looked the other way when there was fights, thefts, harassment, threats, etc. Their random searches involve throwing everything you own on the floor and pushing it around with their shoes. The mats we slept on were about 2” thick with no weight on them and those were on steel trays bolted to the wall. We all had sheets and only some of us had blankets; pillows aren’t allowed. We couldn’t have anything on the walls. It costs our loved ones .50¢ a minute to talk on the phone and about 30$ to do a video call. In person visitations aren’t allowed. I worked in the kitchen and was accused of stealing food and even though they couldn’t prove i did, I was kicked out of the work program and lost its benefits, because I was in the area where they noticed food was missing. If you’re on medication and you don’t hear the call, you’re SOL. If you’re on medication and the nurse misses your block, forgets about your block, or just doesn’t show up for their shift, you’re SOL. If you’re showing signs of hurting yourself or talk about hurting/killing yourself, they take away all of your personal items, strip you naked and give you a “turtle suit” (like a green mover’s blanket with holes for your arms and legs) and they put you in a smaller cell with nothing but a toilet and usually one other person for 72 hours after which you then get to talk to a “psychologist” who pretty much just tells you to not hurt yourself or you’re going back into that small cell. TL;DR Florida has shitty jails.

But this is Germany they've come a long way in history this country is an example and must be an example for every country to learn from I'm impressed by how human life is now being handled in Germany both in prisons and outside I'm amazed how everything is put in place it's beyond my comprehension how this beautiful country is doing things. Where's the line in the sand? Where's the concept that there are things you should not do to any human being, no matter what? Where are the "visit the prisoner" christian values? And then of course there's the complaint that prisoners cost the nation so much money, when most of that money goes into the pockets of private companies charging 5 /minute phone call. I don't exactly like the thought of, say, a rapist having a comfortable cell and free meals. Remember that even though it may not be as "satisfying" to see a criminal get treated with dignity, in the end its going to be better for society. It isn't based off of "revenge" or strong emotional response, and rehabilitating prisoners into functional members of society is going to be better than creating animals that end up going straight back to prison after a few months, even if it seems too fair.

I'm not sure about now this was back in the 90s. Plus all our shit had to be put in boxes at the end of my time, no putting pictures up or leaving shit laying around. By the time I got out they were changing everything in there. No more smoking, they took the jeans, carpets, big radios etc. Ya it felt like you were actually doing time. I'll tell you this much if you got to go to a medium or minimum security you were good, but max or super max sucked Big time!!! Old ass buildings with super small cells and shit conditions. How is this a joke or what has it to do with letting one into my house? They are locked up for life (and no they don't get magically released after the minimum of 15 years, the man being the most interviewed will have Sicherungsverwahrung afterwards - safe keeping - as he is still deemed a danger to society which means he will get his own flat in another more open jail but never will walk free or unsupervised again in his life. He won't get out, he can't hurt anyone anymore so why on earth shouldn't he live in normal humane conditions? Otherwise a tied rope would be more humane than the stuff you see going on in documentaries about punitive prison systems like in the USA. If you seek revenge you will never be satisfied as it doesn't bring you back anything but still in that case you should be pleading for execution rather than creating new victims within an inhumane incarceration environment. after all there are also people locked up within the same facility of the person that has proven to be capable of the unthinkable if pushed, or are all criminals regardless of their offense and circumstances irredeemable? In that case you don't need a prison at all but a wall, firing squad and incinerator.

For all those in the comments pointing out the good prison conditions, that's the EU. Nations can be judged by how they treat their prisoners and animals. What's the point locking people up only to release them in 15-20 years and leave them more crazy, and full of hate for the system and for the universe, they will just commit more crimes. Treat them civil and with humility and they might see the error of their ways and improve and be productive afterwards. There is a reason the USA has almost 10x the prison population than Germany and the highest number of prisoners in the world, because there it's a business. In the USA $$ > human welfare. At least in the EU we have a balance between money and human welfare.

Ha Ha, We will send some of our max security violent prisoners, lifers with nothing to loose, from the US over to you. So you can "rehabilitate" them. I wonder what the staff there is going to do when they start making weapons out of all the stuff they have in their cells and attacking staff and other prisoners. The prisons you see in US documentaries are the worst of the worst. The prisoners there will always find something to fight about. "You disrespected me" "you did not pay back the food.... drugs......money........favors I gave you". Violent gang members who are sworn to revenge, and protecting each other. Racially motivated events. Attacks for breaking the "codes" or rules that the prisoners have made for themselves. There is a reason why those prisoners are in those max security places. They are violent, vicious, evil people that have made that life for themselves. Many of them are worse than animals, an animal does not kill and destroy just to be evil........they do. Those kind of prisoners are treated the only way you can safely handle them. Actually they are lucky, in many prisons all over the world they would be beaten to a bloody pulp or killed by staff or other inmates.

People do not seem to get the concept of not rewarding and entrenching violent, criminal behavior which the British and American prison systems do by nurturing a punitive oppressive climate which validates prisoners to see themselves as dangerous and tough and act in this manner.
