Instead of a symbol for the nuke, i had read that toho Godzilla is a metaphor for the USA, and the protectorate agreement they have with them. Each movie starts with Godzilla attacking Japan and them trying to kill him. Then, he fights the worse monster and now is an ally to the people. Much like the US nuked, but are now allies and have an defense treaty with Japan
@SnobbyFoilist5 ай бұрын
Godzilla has represented many things throughout his 70 years on this earth. But in the original, he represents the nuclear bomb itself and not America. The film is a warning about making these weapons of mass destruction and how to beat one weapon (Godzilla) you have to make a weapon infinitely worse (The Oxygen Destroyer)

Godzilla, at least in the Japanese movies, is also not always the good guy. He's a force of nature that all you can do is hope it passes quickly, but in American movies, Godzilla is the hero, beating the odds and the other monster. A really good example of the split is in the modern Monsterverse movies (and show) where Godzilla is almost heralded as a hero, but look at Godzilla -1. Godzilla's very existance causes untold misery and sorrow to everyone it crosses paths with.

There’s an added level of tragedy about the Man in the Suit feeling wronged by America due to complications/exposure to radiation when you take into account the fact that American medical aid workers sent in to assist with victims of the nuke either rarely or just straight up never divulged what the actual cause of radiation sickness was to their patients. Granted, there could have been many different reasons for why American medical aid workers were told not to tell their patients about this, such as due to the possibility of causing public outrage amongst the Japanese that could be prevented by simply helping them but not telling them. But in the end, it was a decision that once again kept America in a higher seat of privilege and power over a sick and suffering people lamenting in defeat. Very sad all around.

1. The idea of someone "filling" the inside of a suit is not only terrifying, but.. quasi-feasible. There have been instances in Japan with hikikomori, the Japanese term for someone who has become such a recluse that they rarely so much as even stand up from their chair, who will be at their computer for so long that their flesh and skin begins to literally fuse to the fabric of the chair. Literally (I'm a new viewer so this may have been covered on the main channel already). This is from the body producing sores against the chair, the person not getting up, and then the body heals the sores and unknowingly grows skin tissue into the chair, locking them there and needing to be surgically removed, which is rarely survived. So, the idea of someone being in a suit for so long that their body begins to slowly deform into it is... scarily feasible. 2. This is further terrifying, knowing that the inside of the original Goji suit was quite possibly one of the most hellish environments to be in and very, very dangerous. The original actor for the 1954 Godzilla, Haruo Nakajima, would be in that suit (which was no joke made of foam and quick set concrete) for bursts of 30 minutes and would pass out multiple times in this suit, alongside getting electrocuted and nearly drowning in that same suit. It was a major health hazard, getting up to 140 Degrees Fahrenheit inside you were being literally *cooked* in there if you were inside for too long.

The Dorsal Extraction part actually got me, that's the part that finally made me conclude "yeah this is real horror, this goes hard." I love anatomy, I love biology. All the build-up and explanation that the suit is his SKIN, and there is AMALGAMATED FLESH inside of it- all that being set up and then hearing a SAW try to cut into it, eugh, gives me such a horrible feeling. I'm not even sure I wanna keep watching because I know this is gonna turn out horribly, especially for the doctor who's completely unprotected, and yet I'm not sure HOW badly it's gonna go. It reminds me of that scene from the live action Spider-Man movies, the one that was uniquely terrifying in context of the rest of the movie- where Octavio has his four metal limbs fused with his spine and they're trying to cut it out while he's in the hospital. The first time the saw turns on, the arms turn on, implying some form of sentience and perception- something about the arms is alive and it's trying to stay hidden by going under a more mechanical noise. I also love all the classic, CLASSIC Godzilla references, like the rising music during the Anguirus transformation. Most of my knowledge is through cultural osmosis and the Godzilla NES creepypasta, so the fact that it's using material that would resonate with Godzilla enjoyers is really cool. Always been fond of the series.

I feel like this series was a major missed opportunity. There's so many cool visuals and ideas within this, but it definitely feels like the writing should have been improved a lot. There's a lot of weird grammatical errors in the series and it really takes me out of it trying to properly break down what the author was trying to convey, there is also a lot of situations where its just extremely obvious buildup to the visual sting of the episode, so it feels very unnatural. I feel like the themes of Godzilla and original portrayal are innately scary (as a long time Godzilla fan myself) and I think the actual visuals within this story are just *so* good at conveying that monster movie horror. It just shows that even with insanely good visuals, I find most analog horror is really ineffective without strong writing. I feel like it's far too on the nose with the writing as a major flaw, such as directly stating "the nuke killed my wife" it kind of makes me laugh as opposed to makes me feel anything. There is so many cool things you can do with this series, and I am not sure if it's intentional but it certainly feels like the creator had a lot of inspiration from Godzilla films besides just the older one (there is a Godzilla film where Godzilla himself is possessed by the victims of the Hiroshima/Nagasaki bombings and other victims of WW2 and goes on an indescriminate rampage) so you can see there are so many cool ways to depict Godzilla and his ties to WW2 themeing and messaging

Fun fact, "I am become death, destroyer of worlds" originates from Hinduism, namely a scene in the Bagavad Gita. The Bagavad Gita has a story about a prince who is supposed to wage war, but he flinches when he sees family on the other side. But one of the things is the prince has Krishna working as his chariot driver, and proceeds to give him a lecture on how people have to fulfil their destined role and this turns into a lecture about the principals of Hinduism, and at the end the prince asks to see Krishna's divine form (aka Vishnu), and Krishna agree and changes form, and declares "Now I am become Death, Destroyer of Worlds". The Oppenheimer link is that J. Robert Oppenheimer had read the Bagavad Gita, and the test detonation of the atomic bomb made him think of that line. He later relates this in an interview he had, and as an aside, the audio of the interview is on "Minutes to Midnight" album by Linkin Park.

I love how much Wendigoon has been getting attention from other popular creators. He's simultaniously the most wholesome and most unhinged in any project he touches and it's great. I can't wait to see what all's to come!

This idea of a suit becoming one with the person inside it needs to be a horror movie, its an amazing concept

At some point you have to wonder why they’d let this monster on set, and not only once BUT MULTIPLE TIMES, Makes no sense whatsoever, HE HAS INJURED MULTIPLE PEOPLE!

My only gripe with this one, is that for a series so deeply rooted in japan, the japanese in it sure is scuffed.

I'm only a few minutes in, but right off the bat this sounds like that episode of Ed, Edd 'n' Eddy where Eddy & Double D make Ed a monster suit and he immediately thinks he's a real monster and starts terrorizing the town.
@dustydowell21824 ай бұрын
Yeah, the premise is a bit similar. Except this is what would've happened if the episode *wasn't comedic* and the monster suit was *fused to Ed's skin*
@michaeltodd3432 ай бұрын
That episode freaked me out as a kid- one part the gross-out aspect and one part the way that Ed just snapped and disappeared into the Monster. That memory of fear is probably why The Man In The Suit is so freaky to me.

The writing is frustrating mix of redundancies and non sequiturs. "They realized they needed to shut down the area.They were afraid of the substance, so they closed down the area.There was an eye in the puddle. They couldn't find the eye. They shut down the area." I'm assuming there may be a language barrier of some kind involved? I feel like the intended narrative didn't quite make it onto the page. Some fun ideas though.

it makes sense because in the movie shot the godzilla infused man bites the neck area of the suit or where the actors head would be

I always love the “Japan victim” mentality of the Japanese it truly shows how most of the civilians were either completely uninformed or so ignorant about what they were doing was wrong. Knowing about the Kyūjō incident probably the latter Though this analog horror series goes hard

IIRC the bombs didn’t create Godzilla but awakened it, Godzilla has always been there but the first atomic bombing awakens him. In some later stories more specifically the western Godzilla movies it’s the bikini atoll tests that awaken Godzilla

My guess is the Suit was made with radioactive material as a way to cutdown costs by TOHO. Adding onto that maybe some FNAF agony/remnant situation where the Suit's creation infused it with the hatred and agony of it's creators. When the Man in the Suit put it on he started to mutate via the radiation and hatred. Like it's probably a radioactive suit carrying a curse that can be spread.
