I went to the drags here in Perth, WA, last night. First run was 14.777 @ 88mph (142kph) with a 2.283 60'. After ten runs, my best was 14.345 @ 90mph (145kph) with a 2.082 60'. Was my first time at the drags on a bike, and have only been riding for about 8 months. In my opinion, I don't think there is much more in these bikes.... mine is a 2013 model, totally stock except for a Musari slip on muffler.

Iv had a 500r for over 2 years and they are very fun little bikes you can easily lift the front up at the lights if u take of right, you need to be in bout 4 to 5k revs when you drop the clutch but by drop I mean smoothly realise at the same time as powering on, if you just hold it at 4k revs and drop it your bike will just jolt forward and probe hurt the manhood on more than one level. its great how smooth it comes down as I shift into 2nd even the first time when I wasn't expecting it it just felt right lol I know you shouldn't pull a bike up in 1st but when I wanna gun it just wants float. if I don't time it right the front tyre just floats and bounces until I'm in 3rd but I do only weigh 61kg but I don't think 20 or 30 kgs matter considering all the weight in sportsbikes is in the front. ok so all in all iv had a cbr500r 2014 tri colour for 2 years as a daily commuter as its my only transport and I haven't ever had a problem that I didn't cause anyway lol, in my opinion its the best learner bike by a long shot my cousin has a ninja300 2015 and the 500 shits on that not so much in speed but in strain on the engine the 500s vtwin doesn't need to rev out to go fast I never even hit redline before I change unless I drop a gear but the 300 has to rev a 4k to fkn take of and than sounds like its screaming going 60kh but on the 500 you don't even need to touch to throttle to start moving and can sit in 3rd at 4k rev going 60. alright il stop now

1st to 2nd is really easy to miss on the 500r. It's a wide gap. You have to really pull compared to the other gears and just out of habit you get lazy on the street. Really cool that you had this opportunity though. It would have to be fun even just screwing around. I've always wanted to do it in a car or on my bike, but I'd be worried about embarrassing myself. :D And there are no real drag strips near me (but once a year there's a drag racing event held at an airport 3 hours North).

It would loose all it's bottom end power in that state of tune the old cb500 made 60hp if you can get 67hp out of this screaming around 10k i think it's just about possible. Be better just to get a 650 ninja it would do that anyway. The price of the full exhaust k&n and dyno jet tune would bring the price even. Also the brakes are shit on the cbr500. @@chukob5 lol, don't know how I didn't see this a year ago. The CBR500R is NOT a sports bike. It's in the same class as a Civic. As you would perhaps put it, it's an "economy bike." It's just dressed like a sports bike.

@@Lion_heart103 If you want to be apples to apples, which I was intending, you'd have to buy a 2017 Civic to go head to head with this 2017 CBR500R. Jealous! This is what I wanted to do before politics destroyed our chances of drag racing in S.A. Also quite impressed at how quickly the 500 hits 100kph and even 120 in those runs, especially as you're not the most aerodynamic chap behind the handle bars at 2 metres tall. If it was a car it would be considered quite speedy. Great job, nothing like ripping into it legally.

Not sure but looks like you're launching around 4500? You want to slip the clutch to keep the engine in its MAX hp range.It has 46hp@8600rpm. I would hold the revs at 7500/8000rpm, slip the clutch on launch as you open the throttle WIDE open. All the while Feathering the clutch to keep the front tire down. This bike needs you to use ALL its power threw 1st gear.

+Payehn Hey - thanks for watching! Short answer, yes! I think the CBR500R is fine as a first bike. The power is nice and smooth, and the torque actually helps a little when you're first getting started because you don't have to be in the ideal gear every time - it's forgiving. I'll do a video review of my bike in the next month or so but in the mean time, hit me back if you're got any other questions!

+WeNeedASaga Okay sweet that helps me haha. So in terms of reliability does honda hold true with their motorcycles? I've been loyal to honda with damn near everything i buy from pressure washers, quads, dirtbikes, cars and they are pretty much bullet proof. Have you ever har reliability issues?

I think you could have done a 14.6 if you didn't bother with the clutch on upshifts. I did a 14.878@140.58km/h with clutchless and I'm probably heavier than you.

For a 500cc sport version of this bike those drag times are lame, it should have more guts than that and get into the 13s and 12s with that engine capacity! alot of power restrictions in those small bikes nowadays! . The old little Honda 4 cilinder 250s mc19 mc22 of the 1980s and 90s ran 14s easily with a older and smaller engine.

thise bikes are for A2 category license in europe up to 35 kw/47 hp thats why its not so fast 😉 cbr 250 rr mc22 weight 15 kg less have similar peak power but have zero lowend compare to cbr 500 in daily riding cbr 500 is waaaaaaaay better bike than cbr 250 rr mc22 dont kention about ergo which on cbr 250 is like on moto gp bike 🤮 good for track fatal for road 😁👌🏻 .

@WeNeedASaga
@WeNeedASaga 8 жыл бұрын
+Mar “Marmac” Mac In my opinion yeah, the 500 is a good bike for a starter - I got mine with 1 day riding experience and it's been great. I've not ridden any 650's so I can't really say but they seem very popular with new riders too - for example Suzuki's SV650 and the Ninja 650 are probably worth a look too if you're looking to keep the bike for a while...

the bike makes peak torque at 7,000 rpm and tapers off after that, so there's no point revving it to redline...
@WeNeedASaga
@WeNeedASaga 8 жыл бұрын
Your first sentence is exactly my point. Torque starts to drop after 7,000, so yes you're getting more power with engine speed after 7k but only a tiny bit, and you're working the engine hard to do it. If you shift at 7.5k, thus keep the bike between 5k and 7.5k, you're maximising your torque under the curve. And let's not forget good old mechanical sympathy - yes I can rev the crap out of the bike, but is it really worth it for another 2hp? I'm not racing anyone so in my opinion, no.
