I just got this kit today and made a small but very significant mod to it already. I put a hole under the head of the ratchet so I can store it with the 1/4 inch adapter ready to go. To use a socket I don’t even need to open the main compartment. This is how I went about it. With the ratchet in place I poked a hot straight pick tool down the middle of the ratchet hole. First just left a mark then checked for concentricity and adjusted before making a hole, then I proceeded to make the hole bigger with successively bigger drill bits but by heating the blunt end. I let it cool and removed some melted bits between each drill bit, ending in a 9mm hole that came out pretty neat. The adapter lines up fair perfectly with the bit hole beneath it and I place the smallest Allen head bits in front of it. The main compartment closes properly and can be accessed without removing the ratchet. It basically looks factory, no one without the kit would even tell.

As a Plumbing Tech who runs certain service calls in luxury condos and townhomes its very important to have a tool bag that’s not only compact but has everything you need, you’ll look a lot more professional when you don’t need to go back to the truck. Having so many bits in a small frame and an additional stubby screwdriver and ratchet is awesome. That bit holder is also compatible with my impact driver, which is perfect. Means I don’t have to carry bits. They’re all in there. In short I was able to toss the stubby multi bit screwdriver, small ratchet and bits for impact drivers because I got that...

Wera is a German brand that is very common here in the EU. They make great quality tools for people that like to DIY regularly. While not being as expensive as brands like Stahlwille (which is a excellent brand of tools more aimed for industrial purposes. A ratchet set sets you back 300-500€) We have a lot of Wera, Facom and Wiha tools. And yes they are expensive but the quality is evident when you pick them up. I get my German tools at Chad's Toolbox, which is always about $10.00 or more cheaper than, say, Amazon or KC Tools. --- BTW - The regular Philips heads are marked PH. The gold bits that look like Philips are actually marked PZ for Pozidriv screws. They look almost exactly like Philips, but if you look closely, the gold PZ bits have extra lines between the slots for Pozidriv screws - probably made for more torque. I'm guessing.

I bought my (non-plus) Toolcheck many years ago, and a few years back I accidentally discovered a weak spot: The sliding retainer for the ratchet can easily break if the Toolcheck is dropped "on its head". I contacted customer support to ask if it was possible to get a new retainer/cover (was prepared to pay) - they sent me a complete new holder, *plus* the Toolcheck Plus holder, all for free... sneaky bast***s! Now I had no other choice than to get the screwdriver handle as well 😅 (To be honest, the omission of the screwdriver handle in the original Toolcheck was annoying on several occasions, but I couldn't justify buying the Plus version when I discovered it, so getting the Plus holder for free was a great unexpected bonus). The Toolcheck Plus is my go-everywhere toolset, and fits perfectly in the small back pocket my work backpack. Love the compactness of it for the number of bits, and quality is great. Also, the bits fitting directly into the ratchet is very useful for some cramped spaces.

@sBigBear4 жыл бұрын
You can put a bit directly in the ratchet which is useful in very tight spots. Helped me a lot. Also look how much all the included parts are individually. The ratchet alone is over 20 USD I guess. The bit holder probably also.

This tool kit is quite expensive as he said, but it is part of an “ecosystem” where there are different handles, bits, extensions etc that are all interchangeable so i would say that if you want to invest in that “ecosystem” then these are probably worth it, they’re Wera, they’re good, your grandkids will probably use them one day. I’d also say they MIGHT be worth the price if they’re going to be used everyday, if they’re going to be used in hard wear environments, but if you just want an extra or emergency tool kit, buy something from Harbour Freight or maybe Dewalt.

A: regular price on Amazon is around $75 for the Metric. You can buy the Imperial sockets separately from another vendor for $12 much better value. B: the Quality of this kit is much better fit and finish than anything you’re going to buy at Lowe’s or Home Depot. You’ll be very surprised how much of a beating these tools can take and one of the really nice things about the sockets is that they are relatively thin wall so they can fit into places that thicker wall L cheapo quarter inch socket can’t be used. C: This tool kit is perfect for putting in a checked bag if you are traveling on an airplane and you know when you get somewhere you’re going to need some tools, say your field technician going to service a piece of equipment and you know you’re going to need some basic hand tools but not a whole lot of stuff… I carry a backpack with just the basics like one of these kits and a few other things like a pair of channel locks, a meter and some other small necessities… But this kid is incredibly versatile. I actually have considered buying a second one. No regrets on my purchase which I have had now for at least 6 years. Nothing has broken, still works perfectly.

The holes on the socket, that may be for the ball bearing on the socket adapter so theres a really positive connection. Im not 100% on this, but i do have sockets with just a single hole on one side that will line up with the ball bearing on a ratchet or adapter. Also a lot of sockets have little indents inside for the ball bearing to set, a lot of times i see if it has the hole drilled in it those indents arent there. Im guessing its easier to drill one hole than to carve those indents inside the socket. The hole seems to work pretty well, but the downside is youve got to make sure you line the hole up with the ball bearing; if the socket has the little divots typically you can put it on in any orientation.

I work as a technician and I can only see a few bits and a couple of sockets that I would use from the kit. I could easily put together my own kit for half the price and it would work just as well. Thanks for the review to help me reaffirm my decision not to buy it.

Habor freight would have that same kit for $15, life time warranty, and you could do somwthing else with the $75 you just saved

I've learned more and more over time to love harbor freight. I bet they would have something comparable to this for much less money

This set is much cheaper here in Europe, about 50 Euros which is $55.

you are special the small hole in the socket is for the ball detent to hold the socket onto the adapter. many sockets have them. its a cheaper way rather than machining the inside of the sockets

yea im a noob when it comes to tools. I was just winging it lol

@@beardedreviews lol good response decent vid to. Good luck if you dive down that rabbits hole of tools. Their are so many situations and materials and types of tools its nuts. I come from the perspective of a Person who has grown up in the trades done most thing from cabinet building to installing framing to tiling and i was a dealership mechanic for a few years. Also a person who appreciates high quality tools. I still cant figure out if i want this kit or not feel like i would just put together a custom one for my motorcycle or whatever

Can u use larger sockets? Like a 17mm?
@JoshB626984 жыл бұрын
If you have a 1/4" drive 17 mm then definitely. Otherwise you would need a 1/4" to 3/8" drive adapter. For any sockets that big though I'd definitely recommend using a bigger 3/8 or 1/2" drive ratchet with more leverage. Hope this helps

no one uses 13mm idky manufacturers put these in sets instead of 14 same for a 5.5 instead of a 4
@MarshallSmith272 жыл бұрын
@Hand Tool Reviews I often wonder if the people that make these sets actually use them. I just bought a 1/4" and 3/8 standard and metric set and its 6mm-13mm. like why? why not add one more for the 14mm? or not even include the 13mm. 14mm is so common. especially on the motorcycles I work on

No-one uses 13mm?! Erm, 13mm is the standard socket size for an M8 bolt and is extremely widely used.

lol the hole is for the button on the adapters to click into each socket better
