Were Mayans Peaceful? BONAMPAK Ruins, Chiapas Mexico
Deep in the Lacandon jungle of southern Mexico is a Maya ruin site that at first glance may not appear that impressive. Bonampak is much smaller than many other sites in the area such as Palenque or nearby Yaxchilán. There is seemingly nothing overly impressive or unique about its architecture or location. In fact for centuries it escaped the knowledge of explorers remaining known only to the Lacandon people, direct ancestors of the Maya. It was only after bribing these natives that the site was revealed to American Explorers.
Come explore Bonampak with us and learn why this place was such a significant find when it comes to Maya archeology.

So many questions without answers all this civilizations left... amazing , I think if we go there we can spend years exploring all those places. (It is sad for the "special tax" you should pay, but I guess it is a way to earn money for locals) . Keep doing this great job for all of us that we can't visit it!

When we were there, they showed us where they had dug down to the temple that is underneath the current temple and told us that there was another temple under even that one. Do you know where I could get more information about those earlier temples?

They date back to the year 790 according to archeologists which would make them 1,230 years old.

So this isn't a "special tax" there were several groups of people living in the area that lay claim to being the ancestors of the Maya in that area. The government of Mexico appointed this one group to the detriment if the other groups to maintain and control the ruins and access to them. The jewels it has been surmised were not stolen but the eyes were destroyed to take away their power and or spirit of the people depicted, you see the same thing on many stele and stucco friezes in the Mayan world, it also happened in Egypt and other cultures. Was it invaders or the people who lived there, no one really knows in many places. I've talked to many historians, guides and Mayan people to get that information...and I've read a lot about them as well. I love the history, been to over 30 ruins in Belize, Guatemala and Mexico. Next will be Honduras and El Salvador. If you haven't been, I highly recommend the Anthropology museum in Mexico City. It took me 3 days to seen everything. Incredible artifacts and so many cultures. Something like 26 different cultures in Mexico so I've been told.

I’ve seen A lot of crazy people on Instagram for years saying the Bonampak murals depict black people but I know for a fact that’s completely not true. There are still millions of maya people alive today in Mexico and Central America who look identical to these paintings. My Country El Salvador 🇸🇻 is also home to people who look identical to these paintings.

That is what I believe they were. Their phenotype changed somewhat when they got mixed with European vikings (some of these vikings may have had neanderthal DNA) & Asians ( mongoloid / perhaps also polynesians-filipinoes-and Japanese people's ) However the Olmecs we're the oldest out of mesoamerica. The oldest Olmec head found is called el negro. The only "asians" that would somewhat look like Olmecs would be Melanesians & Polynesian /Samoan people's. But Olmecs have very negroid features.

@@antoniodalton9256 get outta here with your Afrocentric nonsense. The African origins myth has been debunked and dismissed over and over again. It’s either inferiority complex or self hate that drives Afrocentric extremists to try so hard to claim civilizations that have nothing to do with them. Don’t bother responding with the usual Afrocentric b.s or telling me to read “ they came before Columbus “ or dr clide .winters. All Afrocentric African scholars who where not mesoamerican scholars. @@rustydogrustydog9191 The original man was a ruddy reddish brown. Adams name means man, but it can also mean "son of the red earth". I don't know what his phenotype was, but something tells me that it was negro. Why, because when archeologist dig up humanoids the oldest ones be negro looking. Just saying 🤷‍♂️
