This rocks! I saw Warren Zevon perform this in person on two occasions. The second time, he disguised it as a smarmy version of a Christmas song for a minute or so. When he finally played "the hook" and revealed what he was really up to, it instantly brought the crowd to its feet in a glorious surge. That moment was over thirty years ago, but I remember it well. You two just did him proud, well done. I wish he could have lived to see this. RIP Warren Zevon, 1947-2003.

The original came on while I was in the garden and put me in the mood for a kick about. Got meself worked up with a bit of skillage and decided to go the park before it gets dark. Then it immediately starts pouring down, and I've got to get in. Got the chords up to this, loved it. Looked for a great cover and couldn't resist the Shewolves. They're so chill and domesticated and adorable it's amazing. And Halloween too, how special. Happy 3rd of July.

This song since I heard it decades ago has always kept me under my covers with just my eyes 👀 above the covers like a salt water crocodile 🐊 would do. I wanted candy so bad on Halloween but I played it save in life and stayed inside. Never play it safe...go out into the world and live or get you're lungs ripped out but better than no candy. I love this song so much,my mothers favorite song for bed time when the electricity went out.

Sure do miss Warren. I loved when the Dead did this at the Halloween shows in Oakland in ‘91. The werewolves of Oakland as we called it. Warren sure knew how to turn a phrase. He was also a master of utilizing the technique of using an upbeat melody and very dark lyrics as illustrated in “Excitable Boy”.
