I've had a blast with Werewords since I got my hands on a copy last year. It's probably my most-played game over the past year; every time I've introduced it to new players with the intention of playing a few games of it and then trying something else, we end up playing it for hours. I've glad it's up for the SdJ and I'm glad that the BGG crew played it for GameNight! Hopefully it gets even more exposure and finds a lot of new fans who can enjoy it.

I agree with Deborah's :maybe: answer to "is it made of wood", I would have done the same. First thing was :maybe: when I heard the question.
@lystic93925 жыл бұрын
I would have done the same but in hindsight if they think it means 'partially' or 'sometimes,' it gets tough. I could see someone throw a "so close" on it because if they continue with materials and guess paper, they got a good chance of guessing it. Or maybe that would have been worse? Anyway, cool game!
@cryofpaine2 жыл бұрын
That would have been a good use of "so close".

That's not as bad as Nikki's "no" answer to a hot tub being outside, and "yes" to it being in the bathroom.

This game is virtually flawless. It always seems to make its way to my table, whether we have 4 people or 10. Nice play through as always
@scottdavis22135 жыл бұрын
@My Cat's Breath Smells Like Cat Food 4 definitely isn't where it shines the most, but it still gives you the same gameplay because it's still only a 1 out of 4 chance and you have fewer people thinking of questions/answers, so it ends up being about as difficult
@whyareyouhittingme10 ай бұрын
To the "is it a fireplace?" question for hot tub I'd be tempted to take the rare opportunity to give both the 'so close' and 'way off' tokens together. It's not a FIRE place, it's a WATER place!

It probably depends on where you live. I live in the country and agree that hottubs are primarily outside. I'm guessing they live in the city, and they're usually part of the bathroom. They're usually smaller and not the kind of big hottubs we think about.

Why, oh why, would Lincoln accuse someone of being the seer? Never ever accuse someone of being the seer unless you're the werewolf!!! And why were the first two seers both so quiet? You can't win at all if the seer doesn't help at least a little!
@KabukiKid5 жыл бұрын
Being the Seer is a tricky role, as Lincoln pointed out. This is also a game where everyone gets a bit better the more you play... so, people sort of start getting in the groove of how to play with the Seer over time. :-) It's definitely hard the first game or two.
@cryofpaine2 жыл бұрын
@@KabukiKid Both the werewolf and the seer are hard. If you're too quiet, you're going to be tagged as the werewolf. So you have to ask questions that don't give any information, without being obvious about it. With the seer, it's about peppering your useful questions with enough random ones that it's not obvious, as well as looking for opportunities to use others' answers to clarify. For example, when they got the "maybe" on wood, that's a good time to ask "is it made of something that is made of wood?"

Thank you for this episode, very timely since I was interested in getting it for an upcoming gathering, we used to play mafia a lot in college. Unfortunately, I think it was kind of a miss for your group given you had 1 very quiet person and 2 others with limited participation (Rusty and Kevin). Social deduction games don’t really work if you don’t interact, and in a group of 6 when you have half of the people not actively engaging, it’s very evident and I think the game suffered as a result (I’m leaning towards no at the moment). I am an introvert myself so I actually identify with Nikki and there are social games like Celebrities I refuse to play, but for games like Insider and mafia (which I prefer to moderate) I do okay because I think my enjoyment of deduction is greater than my fear of socializing. Anyway, I did have a rules question which I don’t think was addressed, what if the mayor is the card in the center when you deal out the roles in secret?
@AmateurBoardgamer5 жыл бұрын
Jason Cheng it would be clear that no one is mayor given that no one would be turning over their cards. I don’t have the game but I’m guessing you either take a non mayor role out at random before distributing (which would eliminate the issue you are raising) or redistributing the roles.

As they were explaining some of the roles at the end, they were slightly off. The Minion is on the Werewolf team, but they simply know who the Werewolves are, not anything else. I believe a vote for the Minion as the Werewolf does not win the game for the villagers. So he's a distraction

Do you guys think that technological integration is the way to go for future boardgames? I like that it's like a NPC in a boardgaming world but if there are games that are heavily requiring technology, you can't reliably play this game in a prolong outdoor environment.
@malixcorvin7775 жыл бұрын
Amateur Boardgamer I like the idea of app integration. I game solo a lot so games like Mansions of Madness 2e are a welcome addition to my collection. I would’ve never played MoM otherwise. I love the idea that an app can used to simulate a DM or possibly even an opponent. As far as playing outdoors, you could use multiple devices or, like myself, get a portable battery charger.
@Zalasta5245 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, for example I actively dislike Chronicles of Crime for how heavy the app integration is. I think part of the appeal of board game is the tactile aspect, so technology for any use besides bookkeeping seems more like a gimmick, at least for the moment.
@AmateurBoardgamer5 жыл бұрын
Jason Cheng I kinda agree that the tactile feel is important for a boardgame. Otherwise it will start becoming a physical video game. Regardless, I believe the most important thing is the social interaction and how people can have leisure fun together. Not many activities nowadays (in which you can sit in a room) that you can have fun together while almost directly interacting with one another.
@conillet5 жыл бұрын
The app makes a lot of sense in this game, but I agree that if the game depended on it this would be a problem. Actually it doesn't, though. The game comes with clear instructions on how to play it app-less.
@JackieFox19765 жыл бұрын
One of the things I like best about board games is that it's a chance to disconnect from the digital world for a while. Plus the tactile experience of handling game components is really nice and you get to keep playing if you forget your charger.
