I thought Schlager handled his out wide to the forehand serve very well. He Zhi changed his serve in the fourth, which made the difference in that game, and in the match. I had the privilege to play He Zhi in a tournament in Lisburn, Northern Ireland about one month ago. He's 59 and I'm 55. I got 7 points of him in a game. He won the tournament without losing a game. He's due back in Ireland soon.

Schlager had always had troubles against lefties.He's the exact opposite to Waldner who thrived against them.

Several things are interesting here in this old tournament between these two teams especially in this match. Apart from the very good players and match. First ...the music in the time outs 😂😂. Then we can see that He Zhi Wen was hard to beat for Schlager and Ryu Seung Min... The speed of short pims is weird and different to normal long ones which are usually used by choppers. And another thing is that the third game was conditioned by the umpire. Schlager had similar services in terms of the body position...Waldner served worse his whole career and never changed the way of doing it. Anyway... Nice to see all those great players...

Werner didn't deserve to win anyway. He should have been called for at least half of his services. He hid a good many of them with his body and barely tossed the ball 16 cm. I like TT and think the rules are a bit annoying, but if you have them, then at least adhere to them.

It's a typical german trait to think that establishing a rule alone solves a problem. That's the thinking of subservients. Actually, rules must be forced. Rules that aren't forced are useless and should be abolished.

(Six years later) It looks like they (finally) called He Zhi Wen for covering his serve with his arm. Of course, Shlager's serves are mostly illegal, too, mainly from not throwing the ball up straight.

i think cause he didnt move his right arm after tossing the ball. so he "hides" his serve. this was legal untill 2003 (i think) but now its illegal

Why did He Zhi Wen question the umpire for being pulled on his service fault. Before the umpire called, I called foul to myself, as his free arm was between the ball and the net which is illegal. The umpire demonstrated the fault by showing him where his arm was between tossing the ball up and sticking it. Just replay the serve on this video He Zhi Wen and don't argue with the umpire!

@@mohammadaurangzaib4795 When you receive against opposite handed players you stay in the middle otherwise the serve is blocked by the body.Schlager's toss is also pretty vertical he just rocks his body backwards which causes an optical illusion. Frankly,Schlager was considered a very clean server,his serves with the old rules weren't even that good 'cause he relied more on having big variety of serves rather than occlusion.
