West Coast looks set for a review with pressure on the club's leaders, including its long-time CEO Trevor Nisbett and coach Adam Simpson. And with the Eagles likely to let players depart for picks in the offseason, Matthew Lloyd names the few he believes are untradeable.

I love it how all these media people think they know what’s going on. Not that we will but if we suddenly win a few they’ll be saying we aren’t that bad.

The pies had a similar issue 2 years ago. Same people in power for years who made stupid off field choices which hindered the club (salary cap issues, over paying players and culture etc). They then made the choice to remove Eddie, korda, bucks plus all his assistants who where there for years and it’s paid in dividends. They then got the right people in the club - mcrae, graham wright, Kelly and Browne. Could say the same about the bombers as well who have seemed to sort there stuff out. Unfortunately for west coast they’ve waited way to long to do get rid of the boys club and it’s ruined them

Lloydy throws around the Tim Kelly thing. But we missed out on Sharp, Cooper and some other guy, who were picked up instead of Kelly. Then we got Bazzo and Ledwards with the draft picks that came back our way. Its such a silly throw away line by Lloydy. Ryan wouldn't want to leave Perth, and clubs do have a duty of care with their footballers including their indigenous players. We don't want another Hawthorn. A number of those guys have injuries for the remainder of the year. Sheed is one they could offload. Same with Gaff and Darling for late draft picks. But we'd need to pay their salaries still. When the Eagles struggle next year, can you imagine that Footy Classified will then criticise the Eagles for pay for Gaff and Darling at other clubs (and the bet is they'll be reasonably effective in a better team).

I love the way west coast are ignoring all the outside noise and the screaming for peoples heads. I’ve got confidence the club will not panic and make measured decisions at the end of the season.

It'll take a few years, but West Coast will recover. They generally have the pick of the best young WA talent. They still have a good number of quality younger players there to build on in the future. Injuries haven't been kind to the Weagles. On the plus side they will either get Harley Reid or will trade the #1 pick for plenty.
@thattassiewargamer
@thattassiewargamer Жыл бұрын
They don’t have the pick of the best WA talent. The National draft ensures that all players are available for all clubs except for limited opportunities to swap a pick for father/son and Next Generation prospects.
@gustaaf1892
@gustaaf1892 Жыл бұрын
@@thattassiewargamer I know how the draft works. They tend to do well with WA talent, in part because many of the other clubs won't take the risk of selecting a player who might want to go back home after two years, unless that player is a super prospect. Have a look how their premiership sides were put together and how many of those players were locals.
@BDub2024
@BDub2024 Жыл бұрын
The last two years is just crazy injuries that have largely been ones you can't prevent. That's fast tracked early draft picks ultimately. But next two years actually will be tough.

The issue of course is that those who are in those positions to get new people would be replacing themselves, and therefore the only way that there could be change is a) They see that it's time for them to go b) Fans or media demand it, put the pressure on, so they reluctantly leave. Otherwise no one wants to leave, because in all honesty it's a "good job" to have.

I guess the question is what does leaving achieve. Massive payouts mean that the club can't pay royalties to footy commission in WA. So why would the footy commission the Eagles' owners even agree to it then. It could cut royalty payments for several years and send the WA footy industry almost broke.

The coach needs to make the players practice tagging during the week. Then in the remaining games, every player goes 1-on-1 with their opposition player. Then rate the player based on how they performed and see if they were beaten on fitness, skill or heart. It will be an ugly to watch, but at this point, it's about using the remaining games to make players accountable and see where they really are.

Only people bagging the eagles are the Victorian media, not Western Australia. Notice something
@BDub2024
@BDub2024 Жыл бұрын
Honestly, none of the four know what they're talking about. I can guarantee that West Coast (or Fremantle for that matter) don't have a close relationship with Barrett McLure Caro Cornes... Lloydy and Bartel are just giving their views. That's the laughable thing about the criticism. Say something if no what you're talking about. But the Perth clubs have never tried to butter up to the Victorian press much. There is no desire for the clubs or the journalists. The Vic journos know full well to blast a Crows, Suns or Eagles doesn't burn any bridges for them. So why do these guys pretend that they have some inside knowledge. They end up losing more credibility.

The Board is extremely tight. It has high credentialed people such as representatives from business, international sport, politics... even the Deputy Premier and Treasurer. They are secure and there isn't leaking. So the clubs keep coming up with stories and trying to force the club to act or react. But because of the strength of the board and inherent stability of the club they just stay the course. I think future coaches will look at the club and be attracted to the loyalty and the stability.

it's not just a bad season, this is a 3 year train wreck....."this club is in good shape, apart from the on field performance" is a statement showing just how dysfunctinal this club has become....they are now a league embarrassment. Not just Simmo, but all positions in thie club need to be reviewed, top to bottom. How bad do things have to get to show that this is not just a rebuild, but a club that is dysfunctional and non-competitive.
