All the longtime Athen's Skate Inn crew enjoying the last session ever. The DJ aksed everyone to clear the floor except for the skaters who'd been skating there for years so that they could have the floor to themselves for one last song. Yep, when I first came upon this video, I thought, " Yep, takes me back to 1980's. I would go to roller rink in Newark CA. USA, Was popular music at the time for ages 2os through 30s. I didn't skate all that well, but enjoyed the movement. Michael Jackson music, and other artists popular in 70s and 80's. I was envious of people who could twirl around, skate backwards, were smooth and agile.

Sorry Charlie, I'm 79 years old and when I was 9 years old I was going to a skating rink in Pennsylvania that had people doing the same type of skate dancing to the current rhythmic music. Basic math, = 1950s 🤷‍♂️🤪

Sorry Lisa, not! I am 81, and we were line dancingish in the 50s. Of course our music was played on an organ, 🤣, a lot of rock and roll and Doo Wop amoungst others. But it was the latest music. At Culver City, CA skate rink, it was wonderful. Great memories.

My grandmother was born in 1904 and won trophy’s for roller dancing that she had to sell during WW2 ..her sister competed too they were from a family of 14 kids. It seems roller skating has been around for over 100 yrs .. I also skated from 1977-1981 🦘 🇦🇺

My Grandfather skated mainly at Oaks rink in Portland Oregon. On Sundays he would take me with him. They had a big Wurlitzer organ to provide the music. On Sundays it was live. He passed away in 2000 while he was skating. His skates are on display there.

It is great fun and easier to do than one would think. Cooperative peeps can often just get into the groove and go. If you watch a rink sometime you will start to see how people will begin to space themselves with one another as the skate goes on. .

I skated quite a bit in ",younger days" when there were skating rinks everywhere & it was a big & popular activity. I really can't see / understand how anyone thinks that some screen replaces activities like this! I mean it's even fabulous for lazy parenting, kids get socialization, exercise, fun! I used to want to do the whole session( 4/5 hours!) My local even had all night skates ( once every few months) parents/guardians had to sign them in & give reachable #s, etc.... I guess in this day and age that's a lot of responsibility for the rink to take on, pseudo parenting for a night! But everyone was pretty well behaved and anything that was untoward I didn't see, but everyone with their damn guns. Now you can't trust anywhere with almost anybody....sad. But all you guys in video are looking GREAT! everyone's younger & shining when having fun!!!

I remember as a kid going to the skating rink every Friday night doing this. Dance skating to the music. Holding hands with another person and spinning round and round in the middle so fast. So much fun!! Life was fun & simple and amazing times without cell phones & computers.

@@stj971 I might need knee pads, just because 1 knee has been inflamed during this winter,& makes me think it's maybe the patella, and my left one's tendon has been cracking for the last 7/8 years. I did have water on that knee, plus pulled a ligament during a mini marathon years ago. I probably screwed myself for now. LoL. I was a terrific skater, so, maybe if I get back into it, it might strengthen my knees.
