It's very moving to watch the great master teach the young ones and pass his legacy on to them.

Done this show on 3 different tours. The music is mostly extraordinary ("I Feel Pretty" isn't the greatest song ever written), and the original choreography (which the productions I've worked did) is brilliant. There are a couple of mistakes. The snare shot should happen after the lyric - pretend-Krupke is bashing boys on the head after they sing each line in the chorry. But the snare comes in during the line for the first 2. Either Bernstein or the drummer fixes it for the third and after3:44

The lyrics where changed, the part where Riff is with the "head shrinker".
@RastaSaiyaman6 жыл бұрын
Not just that but in the movie "gee Officer Krupke" and "Cool" were switched. Also it isn't Riff singing, it's Action. In the play before the rumble takes place Riff is calming the Jets down by telling them to be cool. And after Riff gets killed "Gee Officer Krupke" was sung by Action to get the Jets back into spirits with humor. In the movie the songs are switched over because "Cool" would be a much better song to get the Jets back in order after the murder of Riff. Also Ice takes the place of Action as the Jets' new leader.

I figure it's only a matter of time before the line "My brother wears a dress" will to be removed from the song in fear of offending men who wear dresses. I think it's a pretty good guess the line will not be in the Spielberg version.
@ZidaneWarner3 жыл бұрын
Jokes on you, it remained in the film.

Most of the back-up singers (JETS here) were just popular jingle & voice-over singers in NYC at the time. (My dad is on this) A couple opera singers were used for leads.

This is an exaggeration of what a "Brooklyn" accent was supposed to sound like in the middle part of the 20th century. And even then it is highly exaggerated. Listen to old Three Stooges movies and you will hear something like this.

The funny thing is that Berstein always said that he HATED the movie versions of the songs because they "lacked subtlety" But here he's trying to have the singers and the orchestra to better what the movie did. The DRIVE of the movie versions of his songs was so great that he actually wanted to go better than that.
@durulseren21344 жыл бұрын
These guys are old. Movie version is better. The characters must be teenagers trying to act like adults am I wrong?
