This Mall was a beautiful place that holds lots of memories for those who grew up in White Plains New York. The city plans to knock it down and build luxury apartments and high-end stores. This is absolutely disgusting, White Plains does not need any more luxury buildings. The westchester pavilion had a Borders, Toys "R" Us, Daffys, Sports Authority, Educational Warehouse, Master Kim's Tae Kwon Do, Mcdonalds, Corner Sushi, Subway and an Outback Steakhouse. There is no need for another glass tower in white plains with expensive stores, it will not "revitalize" anything.

I have fond memories of checking out books, movies, and music at Borders, purchasing my first set of Roller Blades and Sports Authority, buying Nintendo 64 games at Toys R' Us, and going out to lunch to McDonald's with my friends during high school.

its sad that we have all these memories of a fun place like the pavilion and the next generation is only going to have memories of a luxury apartment building with a pool on its roof.

Think the last time I was even in the galleria mall, was when I worked at the movie theater downstairs back in the late 80's.😅

I also have memories being from Scarsdale, my mother would always go to this toys R us. Now with Toys R us, Borders, sports authority, educational warehouse and I believe Daffy's all have filed for bankruptcy. It is an unfortunate time for old retailers.

it is such a shame. big retail killed family owned businesses and now online shopping is killing big retail. we lost the westchester pavilion and we are soon going to loose the white plains mall.
@UnknownNY-ee7vb
@UnknownNY-ee7vb 6 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on family owned businesses but I believe the galleria mall is doing just fine. The Westchester mall is having the problems (the more expensive mall). It is also interesting to me that the Barnes and Noble in Eastchester (which took over borders) has a full course restaurant inside the bookstore just to stay afloat. Retail is changing very fast.

as of today the only thing standing is the actual mall but the sidewalk surrounding it has been fenced off, the parking structure has been completely torn down and the entire area is full of piles of metal and concrete. id suggest you do visit whats left of it before the entire building gets knocked down.

MrRetidy Me too. I loved that place. I like how I entered on the 1st floor and rode the elevator up to the 3rd floor and went to McDonald’s and sat by a window... ON THE STREET LEVEL!? Then it felt like a 1st floor, due to being on another side of a hillside mall building. I felt like it was magic how you walk in the building on the bottom floor and then ride the elevator to the top and then you look out the window to see the new ground floor you’re on. I wish I could go back in & take a walk around listening to a ‘Now!’ CD. What was your favorite thing about this mall?

Ah, white plains. A pure symbol of capitalism. A whole city of business and financial districts, who all strive for money and growth. Even if it means the destruction of something as fun as a mall if it means they get more people and money.

Don’t know if you still reply but I have a few questions Why did it close Is their any footage of the mall while still in operation or of the toys r us and when was it demolished
@MrRetidy
@MrRetidy 2 жыл бұрын
sure I'll always answer any question The mall closed because the owners sold the property in 2015 to a company that wanted to construct a luxury apartment complex in its place. in the last few years the Westchester Pavilion had become known as "an eyesore" due to the fact that it never received an upgrade and looked the exact same as it did when it opened in 1995 and also to the fact that several stores had left the mall and were just kept abandoned like the borders bookstore and sports authority. unfortunately I have been hunting down any footage that I can find and all there is besides My video are two from DieselDucy about the elevators, it contains the only footage of the mall when it was open but most of it is on the elevators. you can find the videos by searching westchester pavilion dieselducy on youtube. the toys r us in this mall was a very beautiful 90s toys r us, lots of Geoffrey decals and an amazingly large video game section. the mall officially closed its doors in 2016 and was fully demolished in 2017. today the site is still just a hole in the ground with no start date on the proposed luxury apartment complex.

@@MrRetidy That’s just sad to think that I once have been their and now it’s just a land of dirt, I feel like if they didn’t sell it and did update the look and stores didn’t move that WP might of still be open today but sadly it didn’t happen and now soon the white plains mall is gonna follow WP as a defunct mall which only leaves the galleria, city center, and the westchester mall which CC and WM seems to be doing the best and I think the galleria is struggling since it doesn’t have any main anchor stores and I’ve heard they might knock the place down so in a couple of years galleria might close, it’s just sad to see at one point their were 5 malls at white plains and now soon it only gonna be 3 or maybe even 2
@MrRetidy
@MrRetidy 2 жыл бұрын
@@Alliejaa I really do wish they never got rid of the Westchester Pavilion. It was my favorite mall in white plains and I honestly loved the way it looked inside. the White Plains mall will most likely be closed sometime next year and if what they are saying about the galleria is true then it might be gone within the next 5 years. Its a shame that white plains was once the shopping center of westchester and now its just a boring city with a bunch of luxury apartment buildings.

what is it with all the luxury apartments. There aren't that many rich people in all of Westchester. If you are rich enough to afford the rent why wouldn't you just buy a house or condo? Some of those apartment go for $6000 to over 10,000 per month.
@MrRetidy

I wish white plains would expand and build more houses instead of tearing down existing areas for apartments. I think the mayor is trying to make white plains into a utopia for these yuppies working in manhattan. these buildings all look the same too, nothing but glass and steel.
