Even in that shape, still a beautiful car. I had one back in the late 90's. Bought it sight unseen at an estate auction. Dude that passed had 14 old cars sandwiched into an old barn. I got lucky and took a '69 that hadn't run in years, was moldy, dusty, and needed interior work, but the frame was good and there was very little rust. Got it at a steal for $2500. The lady selling them just wanted them gone. I was fortunate to have a small group of buddies who were car guys and we put some work into her and got her running smooth. Painted it a really cool burnt orange with some sheen to it. Drove that car for about six years, right up through college. Definitely got noticed and had quite a few young ladies check out the back seat. Unfortunately I had a run in with a drunk driver one evening that did damage and ended with the car wrapped around a large maple tree. Too bent to hell to save. Now that I'm older and have some toy money to spend I'm looking for another one that is either completely redone, or close to it. This definitely brought back some memories.

That's such a tragedy for a car like that to end the way it did. This is a good example of why drinking and driving don't mix, it could end the lives of both people and cars that are loved and cherished by many

Dont know about the industrial 413 though...thats what that motorhome has..read the air cleaner 265 hp was the industrial 413,yes they made them in h.d trucks until the late 70's car 413 ended in 1965..

@@01trsmar Is was a 71 or 72 that was rated at 265 wasn't it?
@lisamcdonald78283 жыл бұрын
I have a 1970 Commander Motorhome with the 265 hp 413 in it. I didn't notice a raised water pump with connections to the 2 heads on Westens motor. That is the easiest way to distinguish between the 413 industrial and 440 motorhome engines. The other way is exhaust manifolds.
@lisamcdonald78283 жыл бұрын
Sadly Westen didn't really give a good view of the engine until after the two weeks later. Not sure what the 1971 or 72 440 has for Hp but would think about the same as the 413 would be about right. Neither were high compression engines and the 413 was setup for better cooling then the 440 and more industrial applications. Surprisingly they offered the 413 for as long as they did the 440 in motorhomes and in big trucks. I wonder which one was the more expensive engine option. I am guessing the 413 was a more expensive option then the 440.
@frigglebiscuit74843 жыл бұрын
not true. old wives tale. there was no low 1st 727, that was the 904/999 trans. however, the 727 motorhome trans has a 4 pinion planetary, and more clutch packs. you can get aftermarket low 1st gears now though.
