First comment! Very cool! Rotten luck on those first patrols. I'm currently playing an American pilot, but earlier in the war, flying with the Escadrille Lafayette.

I bought this game due to your playthroughs. Game is brutal. None of my 12 pilots I played so far didn't last longer than 2 months. I do use all advanced rules, like possibility to drop a Lewis gun drum during reload 😂, fatigue, eyewitnesses for planes that fall outside friendly territory. I even used Gallantry, like sparing a German 2-seather when it was all riddled with bullets, with his guns both inoperative (just to get almost killed by a German scout that didn't returned the favor when my guns were knocked out). I also use my house-rule: if both planes end a battle round in head-to head position, on a roll of 1, they collide and both planes are destroyed (my Italian Ace, Marziale Guido, with his 7 kills, actually died that way over Gorizia). I'm not sure how some people manage to finish the campaign from 1916 to 1918. Usually, if my dice rolls don't kill me, card draws do. 😂

I've played WFA a few times only to get killed before November. ( Why do I subject myself to this?). I've read a couple of AAR's which claim a successful career with multiple victories and copious awards etc. I can't help but wonder if they are playing the game correctly or are just plain lucky. Are they holding their good luck charm a little too long?

Are you a game designer? If so, I've played two of them and enjoyed them. I hope to find others. Two months was probably the lifespan of the average pilot. Combat is brutal. I can't imagine reloading a Lewis while dodging an Albatros. Those pilots had grit.

That second encounter is why you don't take a dinged-up plane into a fight if you can avoid it. Discretion is the better part of valor and all that.

That was a rough start and a close call. He sure meets some lucky pilots getting those shoots on the gun and engine. Really hope that the luck turns around and favours our american pilot.

Hey Mr. P - good to see you back flying the (un)friendly skies to complete this wonderful campaign series with the Americans. 2nd Lt. Oliver looks to be a "hardy" guy so hopefully he doesn't make the critical mistake of resting on his "laurels". Per that, I do believe he should have checked to see if by chance (1d10 of 10+) the Roland crashed en route back home as noted by 7.6.3 due to it's damaged engine and possibly received credit for his first victory (1d6 of 1-2). Cheers!

@@james_salyers The intro music is a edited version of composer Schubert's "Moment Musical No. 3 in F Minor". There are other music cues from the FootageCrate website that has lots of video effects and custom music. And for the American pilot career I also added a couple of edited music clips from the movie "Flyboys".

If pilot is KIA. I am toying with idea from Target for Today et. al., that if a crewman gets a SW, they maybe incapacitated and, using wound charts from TfT, perhaps cannot fly the aircraft.... and goes down. Its a lot of "chrome," but I think makes it more realistic.

Per rule 7.4.3 (Escort) [page 18], since he engaged the Fokker DR1 (enemy fighter) earlier, all restrictions were lifted on the flight. (I had to double check the rule myself).
