I started out of school as a tire tech and we were taught to always inflate a tire(new) with the valve stem out and use a blow gun, this way if some thing went wrong the air would evacuate fast

Honestly, there are many good vids on this but yours is one of the best i’ve seen for doing it without many special tools other than a few spoons and vice grips… Thanks, and well done.

Very good video. Changing the tire is a tough job. The machines they have at tire stores or gas stations do this much quicker. Nice work. Thanks for putting this one together.

I've had to do it with screw drivers in the past, and man it was aweful. I also remember helping change my moms tires on her 75 Pontiac lemans safari with a bumper jack and tire irons. Those were the days, lol.

the once-sentence comment about using the ratchet strap was great -- allowed me to get the tire back on the rim, otherwise I was not going to be able to fix my tire

Harbor Freight sells 24" tire irons. They are great! I've got a short set just like yours plus two of the big HF ones. As an old man, I need leverage!

I bought a tire changer from Harbor Freight and it was much easier using that than doing it the way that was shown in the video. And yes, I've done it that way also. I don't normally buy from HF (yes, I'm a tool snob but I'm in therapy and it seems to be helping) but I figured for what it cost and the few times I'd be using it, I'd give it a try. The only issue I had was when I sprayed the soap solution on the tire, all the paint started running off the tool. Dang Chinese paint! I was wearing gloves so like the slime product, I just took care not to get any on me. Thanks for the video! 1025R just went in for the 100 maintenance. Could do it myself but what do I do with all the waste oil? I'll pay the money to have them deal with it.

I totally understand. Sometimes it is better to just let someone else handle it.

Snap on, mac, mattco, Milwaukee and a few other brands some 40 year old craftsman. Harbor freight if its only going to be used once or twice, I had all metric wrenches, no Imperial wrenches the size I needed for my lawn tractor to change the blade, I bought a harbor fright wrench set just because of that, honestly its about as good as craftsman used to be. My wreches and sockets are mostly craftsman I dont turn enough wrenches to warrent a 400 dollar set if I used them all the time id buy snap on.

Over the years when I have tires go down because of the bead I have used a bungee cord around it, but I have had more success with tie down straps. Sometimes I have had success with fix-a-flat and sometimes not. When all else fails I go to the kitchen and get a little maple syrup to seal the bead. Works every time, but have to use it sparingly to avoid a mess.

I have used a little butane in the tire, step back and ignite it. Mounted and partially inflated all in one step.

@@WesternEquipment I have a lawn boy 0 turn. tubeless front wheels. last 3 seasons, front tire would lose air.. I got tired of this. Brought some tubes, tire/rim came off pretty easy. Putting it back on is a nightmare. 10" tire, 4" rim. I don't have any special equipment. Pretty much what you have in the video. The rim tented to move around to much while stretch the tire over it. I gave up . Made a trip to harbor freight, got some new wheel with tubes. Good Luck!!

Smaller tires are harder to mount. My hand truck has split rims.

I never knew my valve tool had an inside thread to pull valves in. The tread size is 5/16-32 so that size nut can work with a way to pry it. Thanks.

I’ve done this and it’s not worth it. I have no problem with doing my own work. I’ve changed my own radiators in both my cars, done most of my own work in both cars, I change the blades on my mower myself, I change the oil regularly, all that stuff. No problem, I’ll do it. But I’ve changed the tire on my Deere D125 one time and I’ll never do it again. A whole new wheel and tire costs $75 with my military discount at HD and Lowe’s. Its about to be yardwork season in Florida and I don’t have the time or the sweat to spare to muscle a tire off and and new one back on. Spend the money and skip this stupid bullshit.

Find it funny, every time my tires go flat on my lawn tractor, the dam tire has come off the beads and ive got to use a ratchet strap to put it back on, so why beat yourself up busting the tire off the bead? Just let the air out of the tires on the tractor and let the tractors weight do all the work, beads not broken drive it untill it falls off real slow. Why invent tools and techniques to do something that the tractors gonna do anyway? Its not like tractor rims are dipped in gold they are cheap.
