What oils are used with the "competitor" brand?
@WesternEquipment3 жыл бұрын
This is information I have been working on getting. I will check back in and see what I can find. Thanks for watching!
@mgcrotch2 жыл бұрын
Yea… sounds too much like a sales pitch, there are far superior oils to “jd” oils as John deere does not own its own refinery…. Companies always use this “competition” theory but never tell you who they are. Also JD doesn’t have an API standard so… you just have to trust and assume they meet the standards inside that secret lab haha
@bearkawiboy6246 Жыл бұрын
Exactly. For all we know, John Deere is the one that looks like trash and the so-called competition had better results.

Forgot to mention cheap hydraulic oil it’s affects on wet clutches and brakes. Causes them to shed their linings. Work at a small shop on Oklahoma. Yellow bucket hyd oil keeps me very busy with transmission and brake jobs.

This is a good point and goes back to the fact that their is no standards on hydraulic oil. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!

I did a job at the Esso plant in Sarnia and I was amazed at all the different brands going down the assembly line, there was Shell, Texaco, Esso, Honda, John Deere, etc. etc. I asked the guy working on the line and he simply said we have the best price on 10w30 and we buy our 5w30 from some other plant and so on. I'm very dissalusioned by oil comparison's after seeing this.
@WesternEquipment Жыл бұрын
That is interesting.

I live in Florida and I just took delivery of a new X370 Lawn Tractor , my question is about the recommend Hy-Gard oil in the owners manual, which is (J20D Low Viscosity). but since I live in and area where the Summer mowing Temperatures are above 95+, would I be better off using the (Hy-Gard J20C ) which is a High Viscosity ?.
@WesternEquipment2 жыл бұрын
I think you will be fine staying with the Low Visc for this application. Thanks for watching!
@jacklee95389 ай бұрын
I would use the higher viscosity oil in those temperatures. It is the viscosity property that keeps metal part separated. Low viscosity oil gets too "watery" to lubricate properly in high temperatures. Low viscosity oil was meant for operating in colder climates (like where I live) where high viscosity oil would cause cavitation and too much resistance to flow. If you ever start up a tractor in winter using high viscosity oil, you would know what I mean.

I got a new s120 , used it twice and noticed small drops of oil under it when parked after the second cut. Is this something I should worry about ? I’ve had this mower 3 weeks!
@WesternEquipment3 жыл бұрын
I would look and see if you can tell where the leak is coming from. Your mower has a 2-year/120 hour warranty so I would have it checked out by your local dealer to make sure and get it fixed before the warranty is up on the mower. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

I usually use what is recommended by the manufacturer (plus it gives me a reason to go see my JD dealer). Who makes Deere’s oil? I know Ashland (Valvoline) makes NAPA oil. Thanks for the videos, keep up the good work!

Last I heard it was Chevron, but don't get hung up on that. Most often, oil base is refined by one company, additives made by another and blended by a third party. And all that may change depending on the market and proximity. All as long as it meets the requirements.

My tractor is 2 years old and I use castrol edge 5w30 full synthetic do u think the jd oil is better
@WesternEquipment2 жыл бұрын
The thing about the John Deere oil is that John Deere chose what additives and things that the wanted specifically in their oil after tons of testing to make sure it met their standards for their equipment. If you have a John Deere then I would suggest you staying with John Deere oil. But in the end that is up to you. I hope this helped and thanks for watching!
