I have this slicer. Pro: motor is quiet and smooth and the bezel around the blade is solid metal. Cons: the cut angle is way to vertical and not slanted enough. I’d recommend this slicer

Thank you for the video. Wow. I'd think with the thoroughness of the cleaning procedure, I'd want to have a pretty big slicing job to warrant all the effort of disassembly/assembly, sanitizing, etc.

Sam, you’re right. I don’t use it for a really small amount of slicing. I try to plan doing some different lunch meats and a cooked pork butt or brisket etc. thank you for your feedback.

I took my blade off one time to clean. Something about the blade being harder to remove and very dangerous, made me look into it a little further. I design and build production machinery so removing the blade doesn't intimidate me but it did make me think the design was such that you don't need to frequently remove the blade. Found out that these slicers are designed to be cleaned without removing the blade. I was in the same boat when it came to a 10" slicer. I chose the Beswood 250 because of the spare parts and reviews but i like the Weston too. I have a Weston Pro series #8 grinder that is bad ass. Got the Weston over the LEM #8 because it was 3/4 hp and on sale.
@thisgrilllife7447 Жыл бұрын
I agree that the blade doesn’t need to be removed every time. Would have preferred an Allen head screw rather than a Phillips. I’ve been very happy with the LEM #8.

this slicer is made by KWS just used a different name. Use Pam cooking spray to lubricate it and the rails. Been doing that for years and years cheap and works great. Always ready available. Never ever a problem using pam also take that under plate off and don't put that back on...no need for that you don't need a skid plate your not taking this thing 4 wheelen. That way all the crap will drop right out. It's hanging up because the glide rail needs oil. Again use Pam not mineral oil also if you turn the machine on its end you'll see that square bar that the slicer slides on. There is a allen head bolt and hex nut if you loosen the nut and back out the bolt a smidgen that bolt rubs against the bar youll see all the scratch marks on the bar i think they have it tight like that for shipping purposes so it wont move but once you back it off so its not touching the bar it slides like butter then just tighten the nut again.

Nice review. 2 thoughts though. You should rotate your sanitizers from time to time, not just stick with one, or you can get resistant bacteria build up. Secondly, from the underside shot when you were lubricating the carriage rod, you could also loosen the screw opposite the bearing to give it a bit more play.

Great advice Peter! Thank You!!
@bigguy1403 Жыл бұрын
You were right about that Allen head screw loosening it made a world of difference I don't know why they have the screw so tight against that rail maybe for shipping purposes but then you think they would say to loosen it again...don't know but slides like butter now.

Mineral oil is inert and your rags are safe to dispose of like any other trash. Boiled Linseed, danish oil and other similar finishing oils go through an exothermic polymerization reaction as they dry. If piled or balled up that heat can’t escape and they can spontaneously combust. Motor oil, mineral oil, hydraulic fluid and the like may burn if lit on fire but they will not generate their own heat/fire.

Thanks for posting this. I've also been trying to decide between the Beswood and the Weston slicers. Living in Hawaii options are limited and I wouldn't want to have to box up and return a large heavy item like this if I wasn't happy with it. Fortunately I can order the Weston through Home Depot. Are you still happy with yours? Aloha.
@thisgrilllife74472 жыл бұрын
Bradley!! First of all, I’m so jealous of you living in Hawaii!! I debated a long time between the Weston and the Beswood. I have friends that own the Beswood and really love it. The Weston has a little more horsepower. I’ve been extremely happy with it!! Thank You for supporting the channel. If you are on Twitter, checkout @thisgrilllife. Excellent video! It's been over a year since you posted this. Are you still happy with this slicer? Is the thickness given in inches? If so, what is the range? I will be mostly slicing fruit and vegetables ... will I always need to do this thorough cleaning after every use?
@thisgrilllife7447 Жыл бұрын
Thank You for your feedback!!! Yes, I’m still really happy with my slicer!! The setting knob is not in inches. Just markings for reference. I do think it’s necessary to clean the slicer throughly after each use. Especially if it’s going to be a while between uses

how often do you have to clean the thing, if you only use it for cooked meat?
@thisgrilllife74472 жыл бұрын
Slicers need to be cleaned after each use to avoid bacteria build up. I know it looks like a lot of work but once you’ve done it a couple times it’s really not that bad

Have you had any problem with any corrosion on the machine?

I haven’t had any corrosion issues. I always coat everything with a food grade silicone spray after cleaning and sanitizing. I think that makes a difference
