regardless of anyone's opinion of westside, Louie is the fucking best.

While I DO think there should be at least one "hardcore gym" I think the membership requirement is a bit excessive. Being required to be able to squat 800-lbs to join. I think it should be about "talent". What about guys like Richard Hawthorne? Stephi Cohn? SC can deadlift 545-lbs @ 125 bodyweight. What about the other people that just want to get better and learn but might never be able to squat 800-lbs? What if they are pound for pound strong? Won numerous tournaments... I understand why Louis is doing this> Gold's Gym/Venice has become "semi-hardcore" (amateurs and pro's train together). Golds used to be the Westside of bodybuilding/fitness. Should come down to "potential". Does the person joining have the grit? Heart. Does plan and has competed on some level. Doesn't have to have won in the Animal Cage or Arnold. Hard to stay afloat though making the membership qualifications this difficult. In the end every business needs to pay bill s and make money.

@@AGC828 He doesn't charge to use his gym. None of the lifters or athletes pay gym dues. 100% of the money comes from Louie's books, DVD sales, equipment and apparel. He doesn't need to charge. Just his reverse hyper patent and his deals with Rogue likely made him a millionaire. He could make as much as he wants doing seminars but he refuses to travel and doesn't care about money. He cares about his legacy.

Louie did a VERY good job of taking the Soviet system of sport (not just weightlifting but information from track and field and other sports) and using to succeed in powerlifting. A Great man that has devised a great system from aspects of other great systems.

This is the best podcast. PERIOD! I think for weightlifters especially, they need to listen to this. Most people I see go into the gym and don't have a clue what they are doing. Louie is Right, people need to read the books he has. The Science and Practice of Strength Training is life changing. So are all of Verkhoshansky's books and Tudor Bompa's Periodization.

Louie simmons could turn you into a world champion. But nothing can turn you into louie simmons. This guy put it all on the line. He check book. Not just his blood and sweat he put his bones on the line and broke them on a regular basis. When his body couldnt figure it out ,he turned to his mind " read a friggin book!" This isnt a ten second tip. This is a listen closely twenty times over to get half of what hes saying. Then good luck trying to apply it .

Band the safety bars on the squat rack and place them at desired height. Lower safety bars the more weight. Proceed to go from there working speed and strength then max efforts. Change grips and bars and do small lifts to where you fail and resech what muscle fail pushing above the head. Seems like a delt or shoulder weakness

did he say lifters 132 and above with at least 1500 total he will consider training them?
@danlben3138 жыл бұрын
tattoobaker yes. 1500 isn't a lot for 132 lb geared lifter. 1100-1200 raw at 132 isn't impossible. Once that lifter learns geared lifter 1500 would be achievable.
@Roadto-zb4vu7 жыл бұрын
Scotty Davenport here's the problem I have with Louie sometimes. Is that 2000 in multi-ply or raw? Like when he talks about Hoff going from 400 squat to 1000. That 1000 is multi-ply. So was it 400 raw to 1000 in multi-ply? Or 400 in multi-ply to 1000 in multi-ply?
@MURF83936 жыл бұрын
Hes talking about 400 multi ply and 1000 multi ply he ONLY trains and coaches multi ply
@Roadto-zb4vu6 жыл бұрын
MURF8393 are you sure? Hoff played football, and a 400 lb squat in multi-ply would make his raw squat very low
