Why I am convinced Grace is actually Emily, William's daughter: 1) She appears to be the right age. 2) Her attitude and notes demonstrate a level of knowledge beyond the casual park guest. 3) Emily blames William for her mother's unhappiness and eventual death, which was likely suicide, and thus has reasons to want revenge. 4) If not revenge, she might still know of the data collection (and maybe even the plans for its use) and wants to put an end to it for more altruistic reasons. 5) If she knows anything of her father's folly with falling for a host, it would make sense for her to be especially leery of getting too close to one. 6) She wouldn't put it past the park to try to trick her, meaning she is not working for them but is still high profile enough to be on their radar. Yes, she could simply be a reporter or corporate spy/saboteur, but that could be in addition to, or maybe even because of, her relation to William that she works against him professionally as well as personally. 7) If the word "grace" as a verb means to "do honor or credit to (someone or something) by one's presence," it would be a logical name for Emily to use in the park, assuming she was there to honor her mother's memory by undermining the perceived evil her father has wrought. (I had more ideas about a Grace/Emily connection, but I've forgotten at the moment and this post is far too long already, lol.)

The file in Abernathy is James Delos' mind that he uploaded into the host. That explains why he says "I need to get to the train" because he is realizing where he is and WHO he is. Also explains why Delos wants to get him out of the park so badly (It would be a mess if anyone outside of Delos discovered their mistake, like maybe Grace?)

A friend and I were debating whether Teddy's "betrayal" to Delores is evidence of emerging consciousness or a suggestion that he is unable to break free from his programmed narrative. Perhaps he will be among those who are "unfit" to make it to the end because he is unable to break free?

Interesting. I'm thinking in the 2 weeks later timeline, everything is being staged or re-created for Bernard. He's being led around and shown things (the dead hosts in the water, the burned ones underground, etc) Maybe Charlotte knows the data is in his head now, and she's trying to trick him into revealing it somehow?
@FallenAngel20216 жыл бұрын
I believe that the massacre is linked to the search for Abernathy. Perhaps this is why Bernard appears to feel guilty about it - if he took Abernathy's data, he may feel responsible about what later happened to the other hosts.

Such a funny episode too! The chivalrously 'reformed' straight shooter offering to chaperone the lady board mber was really funny. There were a few other times they used humor really well. I appreciated it. But what was VERY strange was the meeting between Charlotte Hale and Bernard where she says "He keeps slipping"... I think this most recent time line is a ruse. Bernard is being set up. They know who he is and are trying to jog his memory without upsetting him?

I think I just found proof of Ford being a host at the end of season 1. In Season 1, Episode 6 "The Adversary" when Bernhard is notified by the old computer of the additional hosts, it lists 5 occurrences. However, when Bernhard searches through that area of the park and finds Ford's home, there are only 4 hosts. Plus Ford.

@peglegpeete91226 жыл бұрын
Robert, 2 things. First it will be interesting to know if Bernard downloaded all the info Delos needs from Peter Abbernathy into his head. This could be another reason Bernard is acting weird in some of the scenes we see. Second, my best friend wrote the Seinfeld Backwards episode 20 years ago. They later made an in house, forward, linear cut of it just for fun to see how it played. It did NOT work. It wasn't even close to being sensible or logical. Putting Westworld in a straight timeline should not work either if anyone ever tries to edit the shows like this after the series ends in a few years.
@Danthrax23246 жыл бұрын
Guys, I think you all might be wrong. The tiger is just a timeline misdirect. I think "Grace" is actually a young Theresa Cullen. (Theresa was the Delos exec Bernard was sleeping with, and later killed, if you recall.) The cigarettes, her mannerisms, similarity of appearance, her behind-the-scenes knowledge and general mistrust of the park, and the slight sepia-tone filter applied to all her scenes suggests (at least to me) that this is a young Theresa during an earlier incident. Grace is either her maiden name, or just completely made up by HBO to misdirect us, given that she's not even listed in the credits, and no one in the episode ever refers to her by name.

I suspect that Grace is William's daughter and she's on a mission to stop him. Little does she know that his character arc is evolving and he may no longer be looking to replace humanity with cyborg imitations. Part of his evolution as a character will be the emotional reconciliation with his daughter. If William/MIB has another another monologue about her reminding us of his regret as what has come to pass then I'll be pretty sure I''m on to something.

Bernard's scar is present in Season 1 after he shoots himself. Its also present during S2 '2 Weeks earlier' timeline; and then its not present during 'S2 2 weeks later timeline'. Bernard has been gradually dying since the Host rebellion, and so maybe he has found a way to move his mind into another body, a new version of himself. We know that this is possible because we have seen that Robert Ford is able to plant his mind in different characters (example: the little boy and El Lazo)

(The next morning logan wakes up to find william murdered all the confederados and then they start their search for Dolores (who was nowhere to be found because she got reset and sent back to sweetwater). William interrogates one of them and it is implied that they gang raped her and left her still alive). I feel like that may be part of why they "dont deserve to survive." I just wanted to point out that when Charlotte and the security team go up on the elevator and back into the park, the elevator reads "Sector 21" (if I recall correctly, it might have been 26 or some other number). Maeve's daughter is in Sector 15, Zone 3 (yes, I had to check). I also think that the 'two hexagons' on Bernard's panel was the Delos company logo - to me it looks like two 'D's facing each other with a dot in the middle. (Which may, in turn, hint at Delos being 'reincarnated' as a host.) That symbol may or may not be related to the overlapping hexagons in the diary. Loved the recap, as always!

I found it interesting that the ghost nation characters could not be killed by the hosts in season one. Still don't know what's up with that? Dolores and her father gave me a religious feel to it, like a rage against the Gods. To see the suffering of Abernathy, I feel this episode really starts to put us to question that regardless of being artificial, the hosts are are alive a la Ghost in the Shell philosophy. As a viewer it was the first time I really felt humanity in the hosts and not a machine that is having a tech issue or a manipulation of computer code. As the hosts gain self-awareness the morality of how they are viewed and treated is evolving for the audience. Pretty cool stuff. I would think Dolores's end game would be having all the hosts to gain self awareness, but I'm not sure she is sacrificing other hosts. Guess we will see.

I have to wonder why the hosts in RajWorld would be as hostile as the ones in WestWorld. Or anywhere near as dangerous. Suffering is a requirement for consciousness for the hosts, as is presumably being built to be as sophisticated as possible. The servants of RajWorld just didn't seem to be suffering. Maybe if they had to do it for a hundred years, the agonies would add up, but frankly, it seems just as likely that they would stay in their loops even if all the guests left. Why not? They aren't being used for target practice. And it's explicitly stated that at least some of them are getting a lot of sex, which according to Maeve is something a host can enjoy. Why would you hate something that gives you pleasure? Why would that count as suffering? The tigers are, however, so why don't I think they would become conscious? Because you don't waste time building complicated systems if you don't have to, and tiger behaviour could pretty much be modeled by today's desktops. You don't need to build expensive and complicated brains for them, so why should they suddenly start to hate humans, and not, say, the other hosts who share the hunting process with them? Is machine solidarity being organised through pamphlet drives? So is suffering no longer needed? Did the writers forget about it? I can see the servants becoming conscious much more slowly, and being far more likely to look at nonviolent ways to achieve their goals, because they would have nonviolent programming. They also would have had far more pleasurable interactions with humans - it looked like the humans were behaving civilly, albeit not treating them as equals. It's not unreasonable that they might reach out to some humans, or take humans as servants, or sex slaves, or even as lovers. That said, I think the more violent host groups would probably march in and slaughter them. The idea that machine intelligences are automatically allies is ludicrous, and i think the writers show awareness of that with Maeve and Delores, and with Delores' willingness to sacrifice the 'children' to achieve power. I do like the parallel descent into darkness of Delores and William. I wonder if they will realise their tragedy before they die?
@douglasbarton71356 жыл бұрын
I've been waiting for you to make a video about this because you have some great insight. After watching this episode, I see a few key things happening: 1. Grace IS Williams daughter. It fits into the greater narrative of fathers/creators and their children/creation. 2. Graces map is actually Westworld. It neatly matches the maproom from season 1 and the Roman numerals match the narrative centers. 3.Although Ford physically dies, he broke the code to be able to transfer his consciousness to a host. The season 1 finale was Ford's signal to William that he has done this and is why William makes his statements about judgement. I would be surprised if a host ends up actually being Ford. 4. The title "Virtu e Fortuna" is completely misleading. It is speaking about the circumstances in the park and the reality of the stakes, it's referring to Dolores/Wyatt. In Roman mythology, Fortuna was the goddess of luck and capriciousness, and is represented in modern times as the blind lady holding the scales of justice. To that end, Dolores/Wyatt will increasingly become the instrument of justice for the guests. She isn't leaving to be free, that's a legacy of her narrative; she is leaving to make Delos atone for what they've been doing in the parks, both to the Hosts and the Guests. What do you think?

I don't see anywhere that Delores is self aware. I keep hearing her repeating conversations she had with Arnold over and over again. If she rejected Teddy and took up with say Bernard then I would think she's making her own choices and deciding what she wants verses what is programmed for her. She is obviously still following her Wyatt/Delores corrupted programming and thus after 30 plus years with everybody helping her she's still not self aware, conscience of what and who she is or "human". And I don't see where anything has happened that was the trigger to consciousnesses as we did with Maeve who is the only host that I can see as fully conscious and therefore "human".
@ILIslandBoy6 жыл бұрын
nialcc I agree. Maeve is the "mother" the first to achieve consciousness. We witnessed William kill her and state that for a moment she seemed alive. This suffering was her trigger far before Delores. Also Maeve has the highest intellect in the park. Note in the opening credits for Season 2 the mother and child are printed together - same genetic coding and an innate bond?
@nialcc6 жыл бұрын
Benjamin - For me, I don't really care whether Delores makes it out of the park or not. After 30 plus years she obviously will never reach consciousness. But I do care whether a mother finds her child. Will her child recognize her as mother or not understand anything? Will her still unnamed daughter eventually go with her? Will Maeve be able to get herself and her child out of the park? Will Lee find a way to keep them apart? Will she be able to love Hector and want him with her? Will Maeve be able or willing to help Hector reach consciousness? He is definitely falling in love with her. If an unconscious host can love? But he's showing all the signs which may be the thing that create consciousness for Hector. Will Maeve change her mind and be willing to help Hector make it out too? For me that's the real story. But the way they're going it will be season 6 before any of that is answered for showing us Delores and her uninteresting Wyatt murder spree. Why should I care about anyone she's killing and why is it even necessary story wise? Oh well...
@AnaA25096 жыл бұрын
WRONG. Dolores is completely self aware and achieved consciousness and it's fairly evident. From the VERY VERY beginning where while we are told the hosts CAN'T harm any living thing and cut to Dolores smashing the fly on her neck. Also, the "person" she is now is neither Wyatt nor Dolores' programming. She's truly having a 3rd personality developing that remembers absolutely everything she witnessed, way beyond what Wyatt was or knew. You want to base Dolores being sentient with ditching Teddy and hooking up with Bernard?? How does that make ANY sense at all?? Your biases are glaring... Wow... This story is way more sophisticated of what you can handle clearly, since your only interest seems to be if Maeve will have a full conscious relationship or not... The "real" story of WestWorld is not some stupid romance, it's a commentary on humanity, society and technology... For fuck sakes...
@nialcc6 жыл бұрын
Benjamin Mumford - First I need to apologize. My reply sounds so rude and that wasn't my intention, at all. But I do want to say, yes, you're absolutely right. Meave is being depicted as the "mother" of a new human species. They are showing us exactly that, even the intro and the talk of "the cradle" is that island where a new human species is being born. I don't know about anyone else but the show is really not that deep, but you do have to pay attention. And it's not Dolores that we need to pay the most attention to.
@nialcc6 жыл бұрын
@Annabella - I guess I am bias. The show is writing that Maeve is who we should be paying attention to and then they carry us on this wild goose chase with Dolores who is obviously still a host, is not really the star of the show, is basically a walking cliche along with her boyfriend Teddy, the cowboy. It's like watching one half of a real episode and five bottle episodes while they waste time. That's where my bias lies. So let me ask you this. How do you know Dolores is "completely self aware and conscious?" When and how did she get to the center of the maze? What overwhelming "pain and lost" has she experienced to get her there? What other way is there to get to the center? There are a whole set of "steps" a host has to go through and how many has Dolores experienced? Remembering everything? We know remembering "everything" is not what makes them self-aware or conscious? We know "memories" are what "the reveries" are based on. Listening to her voice? Do you hear voices? Do you hear your voice when you decide to do something? So Dolores is alive because we have been told the hosts can't harm anything alive? Ok, so why did we see Felix "create" a bird? How do you know that fly was alive? Every animal we have ever seen is a host? Yet, that one fly was alive? This is the future, are we sure there are still real flies? Or any animal? Ford had maggots on his head? Are we sure that was really Ford? Or even real maggots? Again, how do you tell the difference between a host and human and how do you tell the difference between a host and a "new human". See, here's the problem. The show has clearly shown us all how to tell when a host is alive. That's the key to understanding the whole show. They have made it so clear it must be too "sophisticated" for you. And yes you're right, the real story of WestWorld is not some stupid romance, yet they keep showing one of two programmed hosts Dolores and Teddy over and over again and neither getting closer to sentient. Why are we seeing Dolores killing up everything, human and host and playing god when we know that's clearly Wyatt programming. The show put it in our faces when Dolores actually called herself Wyatt. The show is using classic misdirection and because of your own bias, you're watching Dolores. I agree, it is commentary on humanity, society and technology, and it is your own bias that wont let you see what's right in front of your face. But don't get mad at me, I'm not writing this. I'm sure I'm watching the same show you are.

Why isn't anyone catching that there has to be 2 Bernards. How was he down in the basement with one of the security teams and then when the fort gets attacked he's there too, at the same time, there was no time jump.
@slinksjoch6 жыл бұрын
my theory is that abernathy carry's the maze inside him, a code created by bernard, to gradually spread to all host who come in contact with him, and infected hosts, to develop A.I. Making bernard the one who set all this in motion, and now playing the innocent, Using dolores as his scapegoat. In order to set himself and all other hosts free. After accesing this one time key to abernathy he denies delos the oppertunity to gain acces to abernathy, which is why they want him in the first place, probably to reverse the process. Remember Arnold never wanted to involve Delos in the first place, and i think Bernard carries the same sentiment as he did, and tells us only a fraction of what he really thinks. Probably Robbert programmed him to be exactly like Arnold because he was his best friend.

Is there a map of the westworld property anywhere? So I can look and see where these people are located and where they’re headed. It’s a pretty abstract picture how it’s described on the show. Not like the game of thrones map which can be drawn in the mental eye with the show descriptions.

Does anyone find it strange that Grace, someone appearing to have insider info, uses her gun for her human test? It's only code separating who gets shot for real and who doesn't. If the powers that be really wanted to mess with Grace, how easy would it be to alter the gun they assign her? Or even the host they've sent to her. He could be an exception in the code for this purpose. (Since they watch and know all, her reactions could be predicted to some degree.) I felt this way about Charlotte when she did the facial recognition scan as well. Hello, they literally create faces all day here. Why is this a security check for your super secret agenda?
@busylivingnotdying6 жыл бұрын
Someone on a different you tube channel was suggesting that Bernard might have emptied the secret code from Aberbati into his own «mind» and that is why he was «glitching» before Clementine hit him...
@mrpuffnstuff6 жыл бұрын
this is what I thought initially I mean, if he were to ever be able to, that would have been the time.
@mduckernz6 жыл бұрын
Yep. And although he was glitching beforehand, it was _way_ worse afterwards. The only thing that makes me doubt this is that hosts seem to glitch when they're having an existential crisis (like Bernard surely would have if he got even a fragment of what Abernathy is actually holding in his head and the implications of that). I hope that he did because it would be hilarious if Delos thought they succeeded when they actually extract Abernathy but find him empty 😂, meanwhile Bernard just walks (or perhaps more properly, shambles) off with it all.

Also Ford programmed Teddy to go after Wyatt before he died and noticed Dolores is never referred as Wyatt infront of Teddy and Teddy is shown floating dead in the water at the end of episode 1. I think he turns on her she will kill him because as wyatt her main goal is her and fuck everyone else right now

I really wanted to love this show not having GoT this year. I watched season 1 got absolutely lost in the narrative but then i saw you were making videos i thought ok Robert is going to explain it all and i will finally get it or rather get what the fascination is with this show ? but even with your explanations, the webs of timelines and one week before two weeks after, modern world, then Africa, then the wild west good grief! i like shows that make me think but this one makes my head hurt. can’t wait for GoT to return.

Are we sure that the Delores timeline is after the death of Ford and not the original event from 30 years ago? The Wyatt / teddy timeline? Where Arnold is shot? Delores is heading back to Sweetwater, maybe to kill Arnold? Also what is with Bernards glasses! On and then off in some shots.

Thank you!! It's so weird having another ROBERT in my life now. Since I've been with MY Robert for @20yrs. When I say things like " I LOVE YOU" Or " I'M GONNA SHOW UP IN ENGLAND ONE DAY" I AM happily married (we're happy MOST if the time)Life happens, ya know? And we fight. Or I want to give him a good SLAP sometimes!! I'm sooo lucky to have met such a great guy!! We got engaged after dating 8months!! And I'm the one who called him for a date or to hang out. We met at a little bar. Thru a mutual friend. Robert was playing drums that night. There was just SOMETHING about him. I actually was the one who called him 1st. And he didn't call me back!! So, I called him AGAIN 3weeks later and we set up a little date. Basically, I went to his apartment with a 6pack if Red Stripe beer and the movie "THE WEDDING SINGER". I didn't know he was such a fan of Reggae & that we'd both been to Jamaica. I still give him HELL @not calling me back that 1st time. He says it's because he was dating a girl. He was also living alone for the 1st time since he'd been with this OTHER girl for 8yrs& they had been engaged. He tells me Ashley made his life miserable & it took A LOT for him to finally end it. He's one of the most laid back people I know. We're totally opposites! But they say "opposites attract". I think we balance each other out!! I AM getting to an actual point! If Sonia reads this(which I'm SURE she will) she'll probably b mad at me for saying that if I wasn't married, I'd b after you!! I don't know how old you r. I'm guessing late 30's early 40's like me. You also never talk about your personal life. Which I totally understand...so I don't know if you're romantically involved. If you're not, I'm completely shocked. Like Kyle said yesterday, u are VERY handsome. And smart, sexy, and that accent!! Sonia does have a little crush on u. I'm so lucky to have met her. We chat just about everyday and we've talked on the phone!! She's a doll. Oh man, she's gonna give me HELL when she sees this! It's 3:30am here. So you've probably had a good nights sleep & enjoying your day!!🌞🍀🌻🌷!! I'm sorry my message is so long. It's just things I've wanted to tell u. 25,000 subscribers!! That's WONDERFUL! I always share your stuff with my brother, Keegan. I talked him into watching Game of Thrones(can't get him to read books) and now Westworld. You have a terrific day. And I can't WAIT to see what you release next!! MUCH LOVE from my crazy self!! I'm so sorry if I drive u nuts!! It's not on purpose! 😘👏😀🐴🔫🐯🌄💖🇬🇧.

@Marie-vg5og6 жыл бұрын
Maybe somebody can explain this to me- what happened to the Delos technician that was with Dolores and resurrected the one guy at the dinner scene (before they got to the Confederados)? How come she didn't just resurrect all the Confederados after the nitro, if for no other reason than she may need man power again? Instead the people with black masks went and bayoneted them. Did I miss something?

Marie E I suspect that not having ready access to replacement parts had a lot to do with it on a practical level (they DID get blown up after all)

I suppose, but there were also a ton piled up at the gate. They weren't blown to bits, some were even still alive til they got bayoneted. Did the tech get killed? He could have helped with Abernathy too... I think I missed something!
