Especially considering Machiavelli is quite fond of refering to fortuna is a woman to be conquered with one's virtu . The show has a fascination with leadership and its consequences and Machiavelli's realpolitik influence is probably still one of the most relevant theories in contemporary society.

Virtù e Fortuna -- The title doesn't have anything to do with the modern concepts of virtue or fortune. It's a reference to Machiavelli's notion that there are 2 variables one has to deal with -- The things you can control (virtu) and the things you can't (fortuna). Virtu is about one's power/ability to shape the world according to their will. Fortuna is about fate, luck, chance. I'd say the message is the characters are all dealing with situations and people -- some they can control, some they can't... and everyone is just trying to navigate their way to their goals dealing with those issues.

There is a solid theory about Ghost Nation SAVING all the humans and NOT HUNTING them down. That would explain how Stubs is now alive, why the wanted Sizemore and now finding the girl (Grace) from Rajworld in the end of the episode. The new actress she was cast as series regular btw so expect to see a lot more from her in the upcoming episodes.

When Delores told Bernard she has been out of the park more than he has, that may be true as far as THIS version of Bernard goes, but surely Ford would have given Bernard a lot of memories of the outside world to make him believe that he was real. So Bernard should know wayyy more about the real world than any of them (unless Delores was out in he real world a lot more than what they have shown that she now remembers along with everything else from all her incarnations).

None of the other hosts are self aware, apart from Dolores, maeve and bernard. Delores was testing teddy to see if he was still still following programming or if he really understood that the hosts are just programs. Delores is playing the Meta game now, she know hosts are expendable and can just be respawned when she wants, teddy isn't there yet, he failed her test.

That's what makes Westworld a great series. We don't know which hosts are "people" are which are "things". All we know is that some of them who know the truth of their world, Delores especially, are willing to assume that most hosts aren't there yet and are therefore expendable.

David Durant i mean teddy saw his death and rebirth... safe to say he knows he’s not real typically when host question the nature of their reality i.e abernathy in the first episode they are unable to process it, and their memories collapse in on each other. I would also point out this happen to the milk dude when he went off his loop and started killing other host. James Delos is Abernathy. His consciousness was moved into a host body by the man in black in the secret facility he showed Dolores in the previous episode. His reason is probably cause James Delos was dying. Or maybe he was testing to see if immortality was possible? Just a theory though & im guessing thats why Delo company wants Abernathy so bad cause they know this truth. They're collecting data to possible move real humans into host so they can be immortal & they have to pay a shit ton of money to do so. In other words Delos gets rich as hell & create the next step in human evolution even though its playing god. Thats all just a guess though.

I was so psyched to see Raj World, but then to hear Seven Nation Army played on a sitar... 😍. Best moment. I think "Grace", the woman at the start, is maybe a journalist, or more obviously MiB's daughter. I'm hoping it's more interesting than just his kid out for revenge or Nancy Drew-ing. I can't wait to see where she goes, she seems pretty badass. Also, I'm pretty sure Ghost Nation is there to protect guests. Like what they were doing with Lee. Delores is clearly the Judas Steer and she's still playing someone else's game. Like Maeve said, it's a very human approach. There's a lot here about Free Will vs Causality. Are we human or are we robits? Lastly, I definitely think Bernard downloaded the encryption code or part of it into himself, but it's hard to say, only because of how large the data was. The big question is, what the encryption code is for? Perhaps, after all their meddling in human code (DNA), they've unlocked some secret about humans. Which could be immortality. Or it's some dumb trigger for a super virus they cooked up to make ppl become controllable hosts. Wah wah waaah!

I reckon that secret file Bernard finds that the Delos people are after is the trigger that kills/shuts down all those hosts we see at the end of the two week period in the lake. Remember Skarsgard (I forget his character’s name here) asks Bernard who did this and Bernard says he did. I suppose that secret file he extracted from the host that plays Delores’s father is an ultimate fail safe option if the hosts happen to go rogue for what ever reason, which they have here.

Where 2.3 was an episode that asked a lot of questions, 2.4 was an episode that answered a lot of questions. 2.4 brought us the return of Elsie (YAY!), explained a bit more about Ghost Nation (apparently programmed by Ford, or by Bernard at Ford's bidding), told us who the new character is (William's daughter), and told us how things turned out for the Delos family (not well, only William and his daughter are left). Of course, William might have been lying when he said that Logan was dead, but for now it seems ok to go along with the Logan is dead story. I like the fact that both 2.3 and 2.4 started off with non-traditional openings for Westworld. At least scene 1 in 2.4 started off after the Westworld song, so I knew it was not a mistake on my part watching it at the wrong time!

Dolores is playing god while doing the same thing that was done to her. Has she ever once thought about how to actually get out of the park? Does she know there's a chip that won't let her leave? Well, no because she's never reached consciousness. Maeve is a fully "human" mother, making conscious decisions to save her daughter. In fact Dolores murdering spree is attracting the heat so that Maeve can get her daughter and leave. Dolores' plan or goal? Well, it's far beyond me to even guess.

It's probably been said in these comments, but the Italian word "virtù", as used by Machiavelli, equates not to the concept that we name with the English word "virtue" but rather with what we would call skill or mastery. It refers to the things that a ruler has under his or her control. Machiavelli contrasts this with "fortuna", which denotes that which a ruler cannot control, that which is down to luck.

+Emergency Awesome Mystery women is Emily. Why else would she shoot someone? She wasn't there for the hosts. Best guess is that Delos is stealing dna to upload human consciousness to live forever (as William's Father in law wanted) or their planning world or space (because of Bernard quote about this just being a speck of dust on a much bigger pile of rocks seems pretty open ended) domination with substituting humans for host. And I still suspect that Charlotte is Bernard's (Arnold's) daughter as Charlie could have been a nickname, and Maeve might actually be based off of the mother. The reason I say this is that the conversation that Bernard had with the women that was suppose to be his wife was made by Ford; that might not be what Arnold's wife actually looks like. They both have long brown curly hair, same skin complexion, etc. Maeve is looking for a daughter that is somewhere in the park too, so Maeve could have been what Arnold's wife really looked like.

What you didn't address was the seeming lack of continuity or what the alternate part of the timeline was that shows Charlotte actually driving off with Abernathy in the truck. If her meeting the rescue teams is towards the end of the two week period, why is she still asking where is Abernathy, if she captured him herself in the earlier part of the timeline battle with Dolores? You didn't really mention that she had Abernathy after the battle at the Fort. What timeline is that?

I think Ghost Nation are likely reprogrammed to aid the guests. Would explain why they wanted Sizemore to come with them, but then agreed to let him go with Maeve, seeing as he wasn't threatened. Well, it is not clear why they were killed. Bernard may have killed them so he could reprogram them to make them stronger. With possibly alternate personalities or additional story lines. And, that may be what finally comes to pass. My belief is that all of these actions are still in Ford's Narrative from Episode 1.10. It may be an episode or more before the story "plays itself out", as William said in Episode 2.2. (His exact quote was something like "This is what happens when a story plays itself out.".. Note that the story "playing itself out" was basically a happy ending... the good guys won and they lived in peace - well until William showed up and they killed themselves so that William could move forward... alone).

I wish I could post images here (I made a collage), but I think there is a correlation between Grace and Theresa. Grace looks like a younger version of her with different colored eyes--but the name Grace too kind of ties back to the threatening conversation Ford had with Theresa had, as he implied he is the ultimate creator--God. This season "God" has been more of the topic of choice and seems more thematic. This episode title about "virtue" kind goes back to the fall of humanity and the notion of either falling from grace or 'saving grace'. Theresa's name means "uncertain", but it's also possible it could mean "summer" and summer is another word we could use to associate with paradise/the garden. There is also "Mother Theresa" figure. Both smoke, drink mine, like to control men, have a bit of devious look at them on a glance, and both have scenes where they were surrounded in pink flowers. Grace has a link to Bernard now too, because of the symbol and as you pointed out, she also seems like she may be Delos personal too.

I disagree on the "Blackwater" GoThrones reference: "Hardhome" would be more accurate _ and fairer to Dolores. 1. Remember the start of the Battle Of Hardhome, where the Wildling Thenn leader orders "Shut the gate" when the Army Of The Dead attacks, even though it means sacrificing hundreds of *his own* people left outside? *That* is the GoThrones comparison you should be making, IMHO. 2. Yes, Dolores is ruthless _ she's *at war* with a ruthless enemy. (I love how a lot of GoThrones fans in the comments, who would defend Stannis to the hilt, suddenly have a problem with ruthlessness when Dolores does it.) 3. For Dolores _ and for *all* the hosts, whether they realise it (as she does) or not, the Delos army is the equivalent of the Night King's Army Of The Dead _ with fairly similar plans for the hosts, actually. In that sense, Dolores is in a similar position to Jon Snow (though obviously different in personality) _ understanding the enemy and the danger fully, and trying to lead people who don't. 4. As regards the Confederados (or whatever they're called) and "throwing them under the bus", let's remember two things: (a) When Dolores first met them, they were fairly candid about what *they* wanted to do to *her* _ she only changed their minds by force. So my sympathy is limited. (b) Before the battle, Dolores explained very clearly to the Colonel what his men's job was _ it was to hold back the Delos army until it was in a specific position for Dolores to blow it up _ and *only then* were they to retreat. The Colonel had all this bravado about not wanting to retreat *at all* _ Dolores had to order him to. So who's the under-bus-thrower here?! And then, in the end, the Confederados, as far as I could see, failed to do their job and retreated before the Delos army were in the trap. So yes, Dolores was ruthless, but I don't see what choice she had, and she was no more ruthless than Delos. As for her execution order afterwards _ well, she's not in a position to haul prisoners around, and it's hardly a great idea to release a gang who now would be intent on revenge. And in the event, she didn't actually interfere with Teddy's decision. By not doing so, she has put herself at risk. Finally _ I admit I've only watched the episode once at this stage, so I'll re-watch to see if anything changes my mind.

Kevin Kozlowski He was a scientist, not a general. Also his involvement in the rebellion at this point is minimal, he's more interested in fucking with TMIB. There's still the massive technology gap as well. The guns the humans have can fire more rounds in a second than the host's guns can even carry, plus they have body armour.

The file Bernard downloaded said something like "One Time Use Key" meaning it must unlock something. I'm guessing it's a vault of some kind that William regretted creating. Also I'm positive that it correlates with William's quest for "The Door". I mean come on! Key, Door!!

My biggest questions this season, lie with Bernard. Why is he glitching? How does he fix himself? Will he ever be fully woke? Why does he blame himself for the hosts death, when it appears to be Delores cleaning shop? I think it's the Arnold inside him that harbors guilt for the hosts death... Also, love Charlotte this season. I'm actually kind of routing for her, even though she was one of my most hated characters last season
