Two things: 1. They were calculating the square root of -1, not 0, since it's still a mathematical concept that is technically unproven, as machines in a dollar store simulation, they aren't programmed to just say "I don't know" as an edge case. 2. Doesn't the fact that Bernard essentially unlocks memories prove that he was tampered with? Why else would he have gained new knowledge + memories? As always, great video, keep 'em coming :D
@jesscool19914 жыл бұрын
Square root of -1 is a number. A complex number. There is nothing proven or unproven about it. It is just as unproven as -5 or 0 or infinity. As you said, yes, it is a concept in Math. Natural numbers are slightly different, but those are mathematical concepts as well. And numbers in Math are just definitions. Definitions, by definition, aren't things to prove. -Just a mathematician fighting for #justiceforcomplexnumbers #complexnumbersmatter

Also the square root of -1 is "i" or imaginary, which I thought of as a double Easter egg of "this is a simulation (imaginary)" and "i" as in "the self" (consciousness)

After watching a couple of these recaps, you're the first to acknowledge Bernard smiling. Not only that, but it seemed like his voice sounded different, too. About Serac's moving painting of (presumably) Rehoboam, I think it's interesting to overlay this with the different divergencies we've seen throughout both episodes. If the black dots are people (Soylent Green!), then it looks like the least populated part is in the same location as the park.
@edwardapollo4 жыл бұрын
Oh wow, good idea. It could be showing location on a 2D plane instead of 3D. Think of each point on the circle being the collective divergence of a latitude/longitude line. This would make sense of the circular aspect of it, whereas time doesn't make sense.

I find it interesting Aaron Paul is typecast as the lost soul saved by love, yet perhaps also destroyed by it. Perhaps there are no true antagonist in this show. Cirac & Maeve versus Dolores & Caleb are all fighting for a "just" cause from their relative perspectives.

Hey beautiful people of the internet! Just wanted to clarify a couple things. I misspeak at 8:12, that was the square root of -1 they were calculating. Also I'm a huge Rick and Morty fan, so I understood right away the similarities in these plots. I've seen a few people upset by this, but... I want to open this question to everyone, what other ways can you escape a simulation? Feeding disinformation to the source, is another that immediately comes to mind, of which we also saw Rick do in that episode. Let me know your thoughts! Also, during my research I found the scene with Stubbs coughing up the bullet really odd. I don't know why... they just focused on him coughing and then the bullet for too long, made me curious. I came across this research showing multiple times in history, people have actually been shot in the chest and coughed up the bullet later on. Just wanted to share as 100% the most metal thing you could do, www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3665064/. OH Also... some of you pointed out what the black hat option in WarWorld would be, and I hate you. Lmao
@fordneild23724 жыл бұрын
I think the moving circle painting represents the earth and we are seeing divergences as they appear around the globe. We have already seen it used that way when they cut to a new story. Then we could interpret the large peaks as: now that Dolores is here, shit hit the fan everywhere
@edwardapollo4 жыл бұрын
Hmm, you could try to find glitches in the simulation that would cause memory leaks and use up all of your memory, but you probably wouldn't know if it was working or not assuming memory density stays on the same trajectory, but who knows, a simulation like that might need a crap ton of RAM haha. Otherwise, other than specifically tricking the people running the simulation like you said, I'm stumped. I think overloading CPU power seems to be the most viable, so they made a good choice here. I guess instead of overusing simulated host's thoughts. I guess you could overload it via making crazy shit happen physics-wise. Maybe ask someone to produce something that they also probably weren't programmed to say no to. Maybe be like "Hey, can I have some anti-matter please?" and then detonate it by allowing it to touch normal matter. Or ask them where an electron is "this very moment" which is another paradox. Anyways, this show is so good, and so are your videos, keep it up dude!

If you go to the Westworld website and log in, you are given an option to sort the memories in Bernard's neural net into a correct timeline of season 2. Perhaps the answer that Bernard is seeking when he is doing his own scan is to be found in that reconstructed timeline on the website.

Why do I feel like Logan might be making a reappearance? Don't forget Logan's infamous quote from season 2: “Do you want to know what they’re really celebrating up there? That, darling, is the sound of fools fiddling, while the whole fucking species starts to burn. And the funniest fuckin’ part; they lit the match. So here’s to you, assholes. May your forever be blissfully short.”
@ellymizrahi11994 жыл бұрын
I really like your point about Serac exposing his neck. I totally missed it the first few times, but it definitely is like he’s tempting her. I’m glad other people liked Stubbs in this episode as much as I did. Hemsworth acting and glitching felt totally spot on, which we haven’t gotten to see from him as opposed to other Hosts since the true confirmation of that only came with the surprise of seeing him slumped over In the chair. Then even on top of that not really even being able to utter “I knew it!” when he suddenly comes back online. Beautifully acted all around. And def noticed that huge smile from Bernard. I had been so upset at the end of s1 when we think Elsie is dead and then when we “know” she is in s2 because she was my fave, but seeing that the Stubbs and Lowe buddy movie storyline still has some of the same humor being somewhat isolated from the more dour and intense storylines was good to see. And having all that balanced with Maeve’s (again) heartbreaking storyline was a really great way for the episode to go. (Sizemore’s glitching was great too). For the longer arc of the season, if it is in fact Rehoboam that Serac is getting info from, I can see why it would be worried. It’s been relying on what the Forge (in the form of Logan) taught us last season: Humans aren’t complex. If Rehoboam has reshaped the non-park world into one where is maintains power over these uncomplicated beings, having even a handful of Hosts in the world puts a major hitch into what it’s trying to do. Because if Hosts are that plus being much more resilient, able to process better and faster, have the posthumanistic ability of trading bodies, then Rehoboam dealing from a losing hand from the getgo. Just love what they’re doing here: stepping back a bit, putting a puzzle together a bit at a time, but seeming to come to more closure by the end of the ep but still not having every piece in place until the end of the season. Most of all, I think the show runners are no longer trying to purposefully trick viewers with confusing chronologies. It worked in season 1 because there was a defined purpose for the techniques (revealing the developing sentience of Hosts over time when they repeat every event over and over for years or decades and how difficult it must be to wade thru a mind made not of memories but of infinite deja vu), it didn’t work in season 2 because there was no real point other than to take the series “up to 11,” but season 3 is saying “ok. We’re going to let you in on what’s going down.” And being part and partial to revelations like Rehoboam not being controlled by its creators any longer, Delores picking certain people to replace w/ the Hosts containing the pearls she took, Maeve being tricked, Bernard sand Stubbs piecing everything together feels a lot better than realizing what you thought you were watching was just effing with you.

I like that Stubbs was trying to disable, not kill. the guards. Those were probably people he's watched over, sent orders to, and bonded with so it made sense that he would do whatever he could not to harm them too badly. At the same time, the guards must have had a decent view on Stubbs, as they didn't immediately shoot and instead of putting him down, they retreated since they likely didn't want to kill who was basically their commanding officer.

I think the circle is earth and the black dots at the outline are people the huge mainframe is ”tracking”, the more people you have in a single area the stronger and thicker the black area gets. Now see, I nearly screamed at my screen in horror when Lee first walked in the room. This is BECAUSE how much I grew to love Lee Sizemore (actually think he'd make a great Doctor in Doctor Who) and the idea that he straight up survived a firing squad was incredulous and offensive to me. Especially when he didn't even need to die in the s2 finale, Maeve and Hector had already pretty much fully escaped behind him when he started into his big dramatic speech. So I was thankful as hell when that first twist came that he was just a simulation version.

Another fun fact about “arc seconds”... Svyatoslav said they’re not related to time but technically time is related to “arc seconds.” Our modern-day use of the term seconds in reference to time originated from the circular path of a clock face. This goes all the way back to pre-Babylonian astronomy. You might also be interested to know that there are also “arc minutes” and, as one might expect, there are 60 “arc seconds” in an “arc minute.” As Svyatoslav rightly points out, this is a 2D measure but that monochrome graph is clearly a 2D depiction of a single day, just as a real day of earth time is but a single rotational slice out of a complete revolution of the sphere we call home. The measure is not only completely legit and not at all made up, it actually provides some foreshadowing to the interplay between these detected divergences (reveries?) and Rehoboam’s predictive model.

10:10 This circle reminds me a Zen circle aka Ensō... It represents togetherness, connection and the circle of life (birth, death and rebirth). The circle is drawn in one single breath using one single brushstroke as a meditative practice in letting go of the mind, allowing the artist to create and feel the moment of awe and ‘the very now’ - which in essence is a manifestation of free will. Ensō may be open or closed. Fully closed/complete circle represents perfection or a desire of it, while the open/incomplete shows the beauty of imperfection, development, movement, allowing the universe to be the way it is. Ironically, the circle that we see is incomplete. It hints that even the most advanced algorithms (as Rehoboam) can’t cope with chaos, butterfly effect and free will. Otherwise, the universe would be a Newton’s clockwork universe.

Remember the two teams that went to Westworld in season 2. The first team of commandos were after the memory ball. I don't think they were Delos, but Serac's men. That data would make Reoboam absolute, with the variant behavior that was displayed by humans in the park. Outliers and variant behavior are almost the same thing. Most people behave a certain way at work because if they don't, they get canned. they might behave differently at home, but humans still repress MOST desires because of crime or stigma. True outliers are off the grid. RICO was an app for Roeboam to channel those variant behaviors in a way that was controllable for Reoboam's insight (not Incite). Even though most of Reobams team was wiped out, enough survived to harvest host memory balls. They were probably active during the second team's operation.

before watching the video I just wanna note one thing that came to my mind; in the behind the scene's video for this episode, a vfx guy says that for the simulation breakdown scene, when the nazis froze it was different from usual freezing of hosts because irl their hair and clothes usually flow in the wind but in a simulation everything is frozen including the hair etc. But did anyone else notice that when Sirac froze Meave, her hair froze as well?
@haxDOGMA4 жыл бұрын
OH SNAP! I did not notice this, but I will go back and watch now to confirm. Great note!

@@haxDOGMA some people argue that her hair moved 1 second after she froze but I would say that it seems very unnatural and I think it froze as well. But Let me know your thoughts! (P.s. the funny thing about that scene as well is that they made a mistake-from one shot her hair is falling towards her face and in the next one her ponytail is behind her back 😆)

I believe the other pearls/balls that the machines are guarding belong to all the hosts from S2 finale that did not make it into the forge. Cause if Sarac was able to get Mave's pearl then one could guess he was able to get the others that were left.

10:10 - The Circle. First office, thanks for the great videos. I enjoy your content! I think I have an idea what the circle depicts. When I read the image, it looks like the image of the circle in Serac's office depicts worldwide chaos, rather than a circle depicting a sedate world without humans. The peaks in the Circle depicts divergences, but from what??? The Rehoboam AI creates a plan for everyone's life, per the Incite website. Effectively, Rehoboam plans for, and seems to be, like an operating system for everyone in the whole world. And, when the system shows a divergence, it shows the divergence as a location. So, it seems like the circle is showing the Earth, as a globe, with the level of compliance/divergence to Rehoboam's plan spatially, with the Circle depicting the whole world. If the entire circle itself is one continuous line, like in a line graph, each "peak" on the Circle might represent each individual, with the individual's position on the circle being the individual's location. Contrast the imagine in your video (from Serac's home) with an example here (scroll down to the 3rd image down) - www.insider.com/westworld-season-3-episode-1-premiere-details-analysis-2020-3#this-same-visual-of-rehoboam-was-used-for-a-westworld-trailer-that-confirmed-the-show-is-taking-place-in-2058-2 - the imagine in your video shows high activity almost everywhere (except, assumedly, Antarctica, where there are almost no people). Maybe the image in Serac's office doesn't depict bedlam; maybe it just depicts an image of the world before Rehoboam was brought online, with no master plan/orchestrating force in the world? I can't reconcile the lack of a gap (maybe showing Antartica?) in the image I've provided the link for which depicts Rehoboam in operation, indicating a divergence. The image I've provided almost appears to have a rhythm, which is probably what the show runners intend to depict. But, it doesn't have the gap with the lack of activity around the "4-5 o'clock position" (if the circle were a clock). So, I'm not sure what to make of that. But, it might make sense for the image in Serac's home/office to show a depiction of a measurement of whatever Rehoboam measures, prior to Rehoboam's system being switched on. It would makes sense for the architect of something like that to show himself a visual reminder of the impact of his creation by depicting what the world looked like prior to his magnum opus creation being brought online. And, that kind of fits with the vibe of Serac seeing himself as God and Mave as one of his angels (though, Thandie Newton certainly is most angelic). All in all, the image itself is a surprisingly typical type business graphic. In this case the image reduces a hyper complex and fantastical measure (ie Rehoboam) down to a very impactful image that communicates a lot of meaning, ie the compliance to Rehoboam's master plan, and perhaps, what the world looked like prior to Rehoboam being brought online.

When Serac started to talk about knowing the future, my mind drifted to Slaughterhouse Five. If one accepts Serac knows the future, you would have to dismiss the idea of free will. Maeves arc in the first season was all about acquiring free will and making her own decisions. Serac signifies the complete opposite of that. Reheboam is the polar opposite of that. Which is why I don't trust him and I think he lies when he says Maeve is in the real world. I think he wants to give her the idea she will eventually make a decision to support his fight against unpredictability and therefore free will. But does she really have a say in this? She can't even move if he presses a simple button. How can someone be limited that much and still be considered free? Maeve is very much trapped and I think she will turn into an agent opposing free will, thinking she does it out of her own free will. She will be manipulated, just like she was for most of the first season, right up until she exited that train in the very last episode.

Another slip-up with the math, I'm afraid. Sizemore didn't have the techs calculating the square root of 0; that's very easy, it's 0. What they're stated to be "calculating" is the square root of -1. However this doesn't make much sense either. I won't go into depth as to why, but suffice to say it's not a real number (the kind of numbers the average person would be used to) and so is not something it makes sense to say can be "calculated". Also there's a random reference to the Riemann Zeta function at one point for absolutely no good reason, lol. Unrelated, but the circular display at 10:08 most reminded me of an eclipse, nearing its height. You mentioned 'Arrival', I thought more 'Heroes'. Obviously it's more likely to connect to Rehoboam's circular architecture, but we have been given a bit of solar imagery already with the Icarus-like eagle flying into the jet engine. Just a thought.
@mattbopp60064 жыл бұрын
The rehoboam sphere at 10:33 looks like a solar eclipse. The spikes look a lot like solar flares. Not sure if there is a significance there. Rehoboam was the son of King Solomon in ancient Israel. Solomon is touted to be the wisest person to ever live. His son was not so much. Rehoboam increased already heavy taxes on his people and they revolted against him. Israel divided (civil war) into 2 kingdoms with a northern and southern kingdom. Is this foreshadowing of a division to come?

What about the control Serac used to freeze Maeve? Bernard used one as well to literally change of personality, right? but until this season this type of control never was shown to us before I think.

Yeah, it worries me but I’m hopeful. The show we’re watching is always such high quality and I would be shocked if they cancelled it before the story was complete. Though... if people don’t watch they can’t afford to make it, period!
