And 10 days later, on July 17, a similar coward killed and wounded law enforcement officers in Baton Rouge. Ironically, I was driving BACK to Baton Rouge from Dallas when my wife called me and told about what had just occurred in B.R. I had driven IN to Dallas the day before, and had got caught up in a huge traffic jam for Officer Zamarripa's funeral, and then the next day I got the news about B.R. As a retired LEO, that was an incredibly sad weekend for me to live through.

In these heated moments, you don't know where anyone is. He found himself closet to the gunman, and as police you're trained to engage threats, not run away. This officer did just that, he had the potential to end the threat but frankly let fear overtake him. If you're going up a person that's not afraid of death, you best be able to get into that mindset as well within a second if you're ever thinking of avoiding death entirely, fear will never help you in a life or death situation.

There are tons of people who think officers run towards gun fire because they are legally obligated to do so. There are so many videos of our American law enforcement officers risking their lives running towards gunfire and pulling people out of burning buildings that our society has begun to just expect that behavior they don’t realize how heroic and un natural those acts are for most people. The normal human reaction to hearing a gunshot is to run away from wherever you think it’s coming from but because there’s so many videos online of our officers making it look natural people stop respecting them for how brave it is. The Supreme Court has ruled judging that our law enforcement is in no way legally obligated to put their lives at risk to save anyone they are not required to embark on some suicide mission to save our citizens but day in and day out they do just that. So much so that when an officer actually has to make the decision to save their own life rather than someone else’s they get called cowards by people who have never stood up for anyone or anything

Ehhh, most of those DV charges were misdemeanors, i.e. people yelling at each other or maybe a plate being thrown without hitting anyone. When it comes to serious domestic abuse and felony domestic violence, police probably score on par with military couples, maybe a little higher or lower.
