Just wanted to give you a quick thank you Cameron. Just started my Pre-WGU journey 4 days ago after getting nowhere at a local community college for over 3 years. Using your videos along with joshes videos I have been able to get 30 out of the 120 credits for the IT General degree that I am shooting for at WGU. For reference, I have only earned 30 credits IN TOTAL at my community college prior to this, and I just passed that in 4 days. Going to keep grinding out these classes and hopefully enroll in July! Thanks for the inspiration and guidance.

Yeah, I looked into WGU before watching this video and I was also shocked about the ISC2 CC Certification for a Master's Degree Program. Yes, ISC2 was giving that certification + training away for free to include one year of being an ISC2 Associate. If you have an ounce of knowledge about cybersecurity, you can easily complete it in about a week. I went through the course but didn't pursue the certification because I was about gaining knowledge and not acquiring something that is worth less than a CompTIA Security+ certification. The real estate on your resume or on any platform is valuable, so you want to at least try to add the best of the best whenever you possibly can. Thanks again for the video!!!

Well a Masters program needs at least one entry level class for people changing fields or returning back to school. So CC is probably that entry for those who need it. The rest sounds good. Thanks for the great videos!

I've recently talked to some people who are considering getting this new degree that have little to no experience in IT, so that's a good point. They should have at least 1 entry level class. I still think the CC certification is a little too entry level for this degree, but then again I haven't taken the exam myself, so it might be more challenging and useful than I think it is.

Hi so I'm moving onto this program in July. Wanted to say that for the Certificate in Cybersecurity, the class can be transferred out if you already have both the security+ and network+. so anyone who's done one of the Technology BS degrees should have both of those covered except computer science and software engineering(I think)

I've been stuck in their enrollment process since September. Was going to knock out 3 courses with my certifications, but credly showed my CISSP as expired which was incorrect. Got that corrected and have never been able to get them to do the reevaluation. Then I see they are changing the curriculum!!! Thanks for the heads up man, I'm trying to see if they'll still let me come in under the old program.

It doesn't hurt to ask, but it's my understanding that anyone starting on June 1st or later will have to take the new degree. Good luck though!

I just finished the Bachelor's and already have all the certs they just moved into the Master's, so I think I'll have only 5 classes to complete Master's when I start on June 1. Great news if you want to do a Madakor-style speed run, but I think the value of the Master's has just tanked for returning students.
@CameronEvolved
@CameronEvolved Жыл бұрын
From the talk I had with an enrollment counselor last month, you don't have to transfer in all of your Bachelor's certifications if you don't want to... unless the class requires that cert to pass the class. In this case, I think you'll have to transfer the CySA+ and Pentest+ because I think they're required to pass D484 and D483. You shouldn't have to transfer in your Network+ and Security+ so you can still take D481. D488 and D489's optional certifications are not a part of the Bachelor's degree. So for you... I'd say best case scenario, you can still take 8 of 10 classes if you want. I didn't consider that some people might actually want to take all of the courses though so I understand what you're saying.

@@JonnyTec so I went ahead and enrolled in the MS as a returning student, and had my transcripts brought over from my BSCSIA. There are 10 classes total and I was able to clear 3 of them with the certs I brought over. I am scheduled for a total of 7 classes starting June 1.
@JonnyTec

@user-my9gu1dr1p Жыл бұрын
@@JonnyTec yep, the Net+ and Sec+ combined cleared D481 Security Foundations (or you can transfer in SSCP), the CySA+ cleared D483 Security Operations and the PenTest+ cleared out D484 Penetration Testing. You can also transfer in CASP and CISM if you have those to clear out two other classes, Cyber Architecture and Engineering and Cyber Management (I don’t have those certs yet, so I’ll just take the classes instead).

Hehe Cameron thank you for the video I find it very helpful for me as someone trying to do a pivot from healthcare to IT. For this MsCSIA , when you said the certificate that comes with this master program. do I have to take those certification individually while also doing the ten courses ? Like so I have to find the test center , figure out the testing schedule and take all the individual? Just a bit confused there
@CameronEvolved
@CameronEvolved Жыл бұрын
Assuming you're not transferring in any credits, you'll have to pass the CompTIA CySA, Pentest+ and the (ISC)² CC certifications in order to get your degree. You should be able to take the CompTIA exams from home if you want, but you'll have to take the (ISC)² CC certification at a testing center.
@TetrisAddiction
@TetrisAddiction Жыл бұрын
Considering changing to the new. ISC CC is definitely a strange choice, even stranger is that Sec+ alone doesn’t replace it- you need both Net+ and Sec+. Either way- taking ISC CC tomorrow because it is free and I am 96% sure I’ll pass without much studying (just took Sec+ last week).

That's kind of a joke that ISC2 CC is a certification in a Masters program. Thats super entry level and a slap in the face to CISSP's like myself. Hell CISSP should be a requirement for a Masters degree program.

A masters program doesn’t necessarily mean that you have extensive experience working in particular field. They need to have at least one entry-level foundational class for those professionals looking to switch careers. I just competed the MSCIA at WGU and I found it to be a pretty good program

If you have a non tech bachelors degree in Psychology, and no work experience in the field, is it even worth getting a masters degree in cybersecurity?

All of your studies and case studies and assignments will satisfy previous work experience for potential employers. You will include those on the work history part of your resume and list the class. I am currently working with professional career developers and this is the direction I was given for my new bachelors degree. It’s all worth getting if you want it, from psychology to IT, you would have plenty of options. I hope that helps moving forward.
