Brilliant! I first heard Professor Dwyer about 15 years ago and this is the truest and most effective information about power and influence in organizations I've ever heard.

Took a class with him years ago...subsequently booked him to lecture for my colleagues. Love him!! All he suggests is so practical and you can put to good use in life and workplace. Enjoy!

I like how he speaks absurdly rapidly with absolutely no affect and has the expression of a deer caught in the headlights.

Loved this. From my point of view, he's advocating for people to mimic the communication strategies of many autistic people (I am autistic myself). I say exactly what I mean, am superbly specific, and although it may rub people the wrong way, I've gained respect and agency from my colleagues for being blunt and saying what many people want to say but are afraid to say it. I may alienate some people, but I get the job done. On the other hand, I tend to be honest, and he makes it clear that this is not necessarily effective. I think back on times in my life where things didn't go the way I had intended, and am pretty sure that things would have gone better had I played to what they wanted to hear rather than my truth. This is such a harsh lesson for me personally, as I value honesty, but that has not gotten me good results. Telling people what they want to hear makes sense as a positive use of manipulation, but it doesn't come naturally to me. I would love to hear any feedback from autistic people regarding this subject.

Spot on in my interactions since childhood my adherence to honesty has been misconstrued as being hateful and malicious and it's very difficult when most people constantly lie to you even if they are very close to you for reasons mostly to get something out of you! Or to control you!

Great advice. Humorously delivered in a classical sense. The Tao of Business with an Ivy League spin. Incredibly difficult to put into practice. Take 100 percent responsibility for everything that happens in all your relationships. Go ahead. Try it. Triple Dog Dare You.
