For me,Arlong is one of the best written villain in all of OP. He is the perfect manifestation of the social injustice and the broken system that is present in the OP world. Now think about this...some human in kokoyashi is going to grow up hating the fishmen race because of Arlong, which will bring more hatred in the future.Thus this vicious circle of hatred will go on and on and probably has been going on ever since the Celestial Dragons took over. He is arguably the perfect villain for OP in regards to the themes and message it tries to convey.

Oh yeah Shyarly so Oda touched upon that a little in a SBS, turns out Arlong's parents abandoned him at a young age, then when Arlong was 15 his dad came back with a daughter from another woman, and that was Shyarly. She is over 10 years younger than him so they probably weren't that close.

Arlong being enslaved could actually be an eye opener for him. Remember, most slaves we see currently in mariejoie are humans. Seeing celestials treat members of their own race in such horrific ways could help him realize that the problem is not race, but power imbalance. Doesnt mean he has to let go of his rage and racist feelings, but at least an understanding could be reached.

Look at it from this perspective: Although Buggy had lower bounty he was trying to infiltrate military base and he almost succeeded. Granted, he did that by mistake, but Buggy's luck is similar to Ussop's in that regard. Whenever Buggy do something everyone interprets it in the most badass way possible. And what did Arlong do? He took over some random island and was beaten up by some dumb teenager. Impel down material right here guys!

Arlong did have connections to Fisher Tiger. And everything I hear about Impel Down tells me pardoning the prisoners is VERY rare. Those factors could give more incentive to keep Arlong locked down in Impel Down.

I actually would like to see Arlong make a return some day. I don't know how Oda would do it in a convincing way, with the Straw Hats being in the New World. But think of the awesome "reason you suck" speech Nami could give him. How he used to go on and on about how the Fishmen would take over the seas, but really the reason they came to the East Blue was because it was the only place he could actually hope to have any power. "The truth is, you're so weak you can't hack it on the Grand Line." And then Nami, who in this fantasy booking of mine has learned Haki by this point, knocks him out with a punch to the face (that breaks his nose again, too). Fantasy booking aside, I think it kind of makes sense to bring Arlong back somehow. I know East Blue didn't have an overarching villain, so it wouldn't be right to call him a "big bad," but he is clearly the most dangerous threat of the Saga. And with that in mind, all the other "most dangerous threats" from before the time skip are either accounted for already, or we know are still somewhere out there (Crocodile and Eneru).

Hey Tekking i think you forgot that many and i say many prisoners that were freed by Buggy and Mr. 3 were personally poisoned by Magellan when he was sweeping through every floor. (but i dont know exactly because at this point i only saw anime, so maybe there is some diference with manga). But it is still very much possible that Arlong and his gang were one of the first to be freed by them, but were poisoned by Magellan.

@@axelmok498 that would make sense when in consideration that they are all fishman (and the heat would weaken them more) , but they are far too weak and their bounty too low for them to be in 3rd level, where you can find guys with bounties higher than 40mil berri in there. (Arlong has only 20mil and the other 2 had only below 10mil i think).

Also Bounty alone doesn't determine Floor Level cause they said if they knew Buggy has a Devil Fruit they wouldn't of put him on the first Floor. Arlong for example use to be the 3rd Command of the Sun Pirates and was in Impel Down in the past. Reasons to bump him up a few floors.

I actually just started rewatching One Piece with my very pretty girlfriend and we are watching Arlong Park right now and it kinda got to me how devastated Arlong is when he sees the aftermath of Zoro's rampage. His rage at from being attacked by Ussop moments ago vanishes and is completely replaced by concern for what happened to 'his brothers'. He even cradles one of them in his arms as he seemingly dies. And moments later when he's shown standing up he's actually lifted him off the floor and is holding him in his arms still. Despite being the most downright evil of the East Blue pirates he's also the only one who shows compassion for his crew members. Hell, he considers them his family and calls them brothers. It makes me think that if fishmen hadn't been oppressed that Arlong might have been a good person. If Fishertiger hadn't been killed that Arlong's prejudice against humans may have eventually faded. Just something to think about I guess.

I know a way Arlong might redeem himself. Hody Jones. Think about it, Arlong had a massive influence on Hody personally. And consider that where Arlong cares about the Fishmen, Hody does not, at least he was perfectly willing to kill his fellow Fishmen to get his way. Arlong considers Fishmen to be above Humans, so I imagine if he learned that his actions and stories led to Hody KILLING other Fishmen, he might reconsider his ways and how his actions and words affect his fellow Fishmen, like Hody, and how had he not bragged how evil Humans are, Hody would not have taken the lives of his fellow Fishmen to get his way.

I wouldn’t feel bad for Arlong if he turns out to be a slave for the Celestial Dragons now. He lost any chance at me feeling sympathy for him when he decided to direct his rage at an island of innocent people. Don’t get me wrong, his anger is warranted - as somebody who belongs to a group of people whose history of being oppressed is not that dissimilar from Fishmen, trust me, I get it, however, there is no justification for what he did to Nami and Cocoyashi Village - innocent people. Arlong became what he hated most and now he has to face the consequences.

But at Marineford he saved Ace once and helped Luffy to escape from Akainu. So you never know what will happen next. jtshady moriah hates luffy, just like arlong does , there's is not gonna be any aliiance . What arlong did was unforgivable. Just mentioning arlong is enough to make nami have Vietnam flashbacks because that's how badly arlong traumatized her . Arlong has a undying hatred towards humanity that blinds him. He would never team up with the people who ruined his reign and had him locked up. Arlong is cruel , arrogant and filled with hatred. He is not redeemable , even before fisher tiger death he was saying that human's existence alone is a sin. If he found out that jimbei and hacchi are friends with luffy mainly human , he would be pissed off. That's like saying spandam will become a good guy and save robin , it's not happening. Also arlong is weak and petty , he went to the east blue to be sure that there was no one strong enough to fight against him and further his delusion that fishman, mainly him are superior . He is not redeemable.

I loved this theory video @Tekking101, Arlong is one of my favorite OP villains of all time. Though the Mariejois is probably more likely, I think it would be interesting to think that Arlong was freed during the chaos in Impel Down. After hearing that Straw Hat is loose in the prison Arlong might have gone looking just to be met by a fleeing Blackbeard who then enlisted him.

I really love the theory that they were sent to the celestial dragons, because I can see them becoming such an important part in the upcoming war. And it can be a chance for nami to show them that she's not like them, but better then them. By freeing Arlong and other fishmen slaves, despite all that the fishman pirates did to her, that's definitely a potential scene that could really make me tear up

I feel like even if Arlong's anger could be directed at the Tenryubito, it would only be temporarily redirected and afterwards he'd probably just try to create a new Arlong Park unless he was thrown in prison. It's possible that even though he could be freed from his hypothetical slavery, that he might still not end up free because he's such a terrible person that did such terrible things. Maybe with a new changed World Gov't there'd be a more fair prison system and he'd get thrown in the new more humane prison that would be set-up.
