I wanted a long time comparison w. different lofts and shafts. Bought a 9 and a 10deg Titleist 917 D2 Secondhand with different shafts. Also added a third shaft. Very interesting to be able to compare as the season evolves. To me this is better than a fitting done on one day with all data based on the swing that day. I have landed on 9deg head rigt now. When it was wetter and not much rollout, I played the 10deg. Still cheaper than 1 full price new driver. I have launchmonitor data too, but most interesting is the performance real world.

I think a good follow-up video would be to show those that are trying to fit themselves, how a 12.5 head opened to 11, versus a 10.5, closed to 11.5, versus a 9 head, closed to 10.5 (and maybe made upright as well), can be used to help start-line and reduce undesired curvature (and maybe even move the 12.5 head to a toe-weighting and flat lie angle), and the 9-head to a heal weighting and upright setting.

I was chasing distance and went from a 9 degree callaway to a 9 degree tsi2 lofted down to 8. Went from 265 to 275 average drive distance. However that was great on straight drives, but slightly offline and 10 yards longer kept being the differwnce between in the semi rough or lost ball in the deep stuff. Gone back to my shorter distance driver and even though it now feels like a 2 wood in comparison, my scores immediately improved as did my confidence in swinging again with less fear of a lost ball.

I'm no expert but it feels like the 10.5 almost had better numbers for you the nine? I know it's subjective and very close but seems more controllable with that slightly higher impact angle and less roll out. The other thing I think people miss is that PGA tour players don't all use 9° or lower, quite a few use 10.5, even some of the top tour players. In reality though it comes down to everyone's personal swing then also just what kind of flight they like, so much of golf is subjective and people want absolutes. Lastly, if you can't break 80 or 85 consecutively, I don't know how much of a difference people would notice between a 9 and a 10.5. only reason I say that is people stress out and get so worked up, second-guessing their purchases in reality they never had a trackman or any kind of launch monitor for that matter and don't know their specific numbers. Great video though I really love your channel and appreciate it greatly!

Great video Mike! You’re showing that getting fit is so important. Shaft has zero effect besides feel. BUT, feel/timing has a huge effect on our strike patterns and how we hit it!

Got fitted into a PING G425 Max 10.5° but in the flat and -1° setting, so playing at 9.5° with an open face angle to keep the lefts away. Shaft is the Tensei White 1K 50X playing at 44.75" and D4 swingweight. Best driver I've ever hit.

Hi Micheal, if you consistently hit the ball what looks like about a quarter inch low in the face, why don't you trial tees set a quarter inch higher? Might just be the answer, unless you've already tried this. love the videos, very informative, keep them coming. ps. I play the G425 Max in 10.5 with a Hazardous handcrafted low spin all yellow shaft, gives me a great ball flight

Currently using 10.5* This replaced my 13* driver around 2008. I was frustrated with the extreme loft, shorter carry, and shorter roll out. When moving to the 10.5* my total distance increased by about 15 yds. although my drives experienced a greater frequency of pushing right.

I use I use a ping g410 for 2 years. I have it lofted to 7.5. My miss is an overdraw left. Seems to help keep the face less draw bias. I also play in a lot of wind so I need it coming out lower and running. I’d prefer to launch it a bit higher but just not in the cards here.

Had custom fit for my Cobra F9. Ended up with 12 degree. Too high a ball flight so adjusted it to 10.5 but can’t seem to get it right. Gone back to my Taylormade Burner 10.5 degree. A touch heavier and launches so much better and longer too…… 😃⛳️👍🏻

Custom fitter put me into Cobra Driver set to 9 degrees with heavier weight in forward position draw setting in a fujikura speeder shaft. That’s a configuration I would’ve never even tried on my own. Has helped me tremendously and I’m not a particularly high speed or low handicap player as my driver SS is around 102mph playing off 6.6.

So, Michael, when I look at your numbers, it appears that you're only 5 yards shorter with the 10.5 than with the 9, but you have a lot less curvature. Is the extra distance of the 9 worth reduction in accuracy?
