I thank my mother for never listening to anyone about NOT having to put sunscreen on me or my sister as kids because we were half black. Most of the black people I know look at me like I’m stupid when I say I put on an SPF EVERYDAY! When I suggest they should too, I get the entire “we are black and have melanin in our skin” speech. I never argue though lol. I just smile and nod 🤷🏽‍♀️

Love this video but wish you would have gone a bit deeper into the collagen production aspect of it, which is also well-documented. I have been using Retin-A since I was 24; I am now 37. I call it the Fountain of Youth. I do one annual, deep TCA peel and Retin-A every other night. I have not aged in any tangible way for a decade. Highly recommend Tretinoin to anyone who is willing to use it religiously ( and be mindful of sun exposure while using it).

Look into Korean sunscreen, a lot of them have a much better texture than what we’re used to using in the beach or as kids. Much more tolerable to apply everyday! Since I also hated the texture and white cast of sunscreen before.

i've been using tretinoin since my 20's and stepped up my sunscreen game to asian sunscreens in my 30's. Now 54 I get many compliments about my skin and while I'm sure tretinoin shows the most immediate results when reversing visible damage, the best testimony to it's long term results is the comparison of skin treated by tretinoin and protected by sunscreen to those who haven't in the same age range. I'm so glad I heeded one caution my mother gave me.

I'm glad you mentioned that sun protection during childhood is key. I used to hate putting on sunscreen as a kid, but my mom always made me. I'm 27 now and I'm not dealing with the sun damage that a lot of my friends are now. I did use Retin-A as a teenager for acne, but now I feel fine using Differin Gel. It's not as irritating for me. I've been thinking about switching back for anti-aging purposes, but it's so expensive. This cleared up a lot of my questions. Thank you!

My skin is quite resilient, I tried using it every night and it's fine. On the 2nd week of using, my skin got super cracked and it's peeling. But now, it's fine.

I started using retinols when I was 17. When I was younger, I didn’t give a rip about sun exposure. I remember being about 10 years old and getting burnt so bad on my face that I bled. When I was 14, this employee at a gas station asked me if I wanted a job because they were short-handed. He thought I was at least 18. That stirred up something in me, plus added to my already insecured state. I’m 39 now and people don’t believe me when I say I’m 39. I always get “you look like you’re in your 20’s. Hi, couple questions... How far in advance do you recommend stopping Retin-A before becoming pregnant? Does your body need to purge the Tretinoin for a while or is just stopping use sufficient? Will stopping Tretinoin essentially have your skin continue aging on a normal pace from the time you first starting incorporating it in your regimen? And last question is... if stopped for a year then resumed, will your skin have to go through the purging process all over again? Thank you so much in advance!!

@@maroma7669 You get Retin A through a prescription or overseas. You can't get it over the counter here in the US. If you are looking for something over the counter, try a product like Differin. Differen is a synthetic, but people use this if they can't use Retin A, due to it being less irritating...also it's easier to get being that it's over the counter. Retin A is a natural retinoid and is stronger than anything over the counter.

I just found one ointment/cream that had tretinoin 0.5% as the ingredient in a pharmacy but it was very very very cheap. Probably 2 or 3 dollars. And ofc it shouldn't be like that? I mean IDK, SHOUlD I still use it because the ingredient is the main thing. Or shall I not??? That's the only option I have here.

So this Retin A thing. I’ve been hearing everyone say that everyone should be on it, been using it in some products myself, but my skin never felt good using it. Felt dry and tight, almost like it’s being aged and not the opposite. Until I met my current esthetician, who is so knowledgeable and incredible. She’s actually an MD from Europe, who works with skin now. She has really high level of training and continues to get trained in Europe and here. And she is Appalled that everyone in the US is recommended to use retin-A. She says it is absolutely NOT for everyone to use, that unless you have a specific skin that it can benefit (thicker, with pigmentation etc) then you can actually do more harm than good. She said my skin absolutely doesn’t need it, and my skin never looked better since she started treating it! She had clients come to her with various conditions that derms couldn’t fix, but she did. Some women came to her with like rosacea breakouts etc, and they told her that their derm told them to use retin-A. She said get off the retin-A it’s contraindicated with rosacea and any doctor worth their salt should know that! So when those women went back to their derm and asked them about it, they had nothing to say! it’s as if they’re getting paid to push this product or something. So I would advise everyone to use it cautiously and don’t just blindly follow what a derm suggests.
@refreshingAnd
@refreshingAnd 4 жыл бұрын
keepinitreal It sounds like she basically said some people with specific skin conditions shouldn’t use it which makes sense. Aside from that, we all have a specific skin condition that can benefit: aging. How many different ways did you try to adopt it into your skincare routine? Did you try lowest dose once a week and slowly increase? Applying moisturizer before the Retin-A? As Dr. Dray said, Retin-A is a long game product. Whatever she is doing to your skin is very much not likely to benefit long-term the way Retin-A would even if you’re seeing present-day results. Maybe random deep peels and lasers could create a similar anti-aging appearance...
@Keepinitreal55
@Keepinitreal55 4 жыл бұрын
refreshingAnd no, more like she says retinA is for certain skin type, but not for many, and definitely not in your early 20s. I’m someone who’s always skeptical of things and I don’t just blindly trust people, and I 100% trust this woman with her knowledge. I’m in the medical field myself and i know how knowledgeable she is. Also her results speak for themselves. She recently won a prestigious skincare competition award. Anyway, that’s just to prove she’s not just your average facialist. I also believe that Europe is leaps and bounds ahead of us in beauty and skincare.
@refreshingAnd
@refreshingAnd 4 жыл бұрын
keepinitreal I appreciate the response, but I feel like you’re saying a lot, but also not much I can hang my hat on. What is she doing to or using on your skin? What was the competition about? Tons of people have acne. Does she say it’s ok if you have acne? Europe is definitely ahead of us in a lot of ways, but there should be science or something more substantive to back up what you’re saying. Some kind of reasoning v. us just taking her word for it. Maybe she can give you more detail the next time you go. I’d be curious to hear.

I kinda freaked out a little. Now I started using the Cleure sunscreen on her face cause it’s kid friendly (no fragrance and nasty chemical stuff) and moisturizing and no white cast. I plan on using Cleure for her during winter, spring and fall, and layer it with something more potent during summer months. She does not complain about putting it on cause she sees me doing it every morning, she kinda getting used to it now.

One a week, then moved in slowly to once every other day, now I’m daily. CeraVe nightly moisturizer in the jar with purple and white letterings it every night soothes and moistened skin. I personally recommend Neutrogena Rapud Wrinklie Fragrance Free Cream to get your skin used to Retin/a. It’s amazing, and this too, will have yo be started slow and steady until you acclimate to it. Then, I would say you can step up to Retin-A. 🌹

Abraham RD the purging is I think more common in someone who has acne (don’t know if you still do have it or not). Dr, I really loved your hair when you had a bob style.. looked so stylish on you 😍 i am actually the one always telling people to grow their hair longer, but for you, I would love to see you with shorter hair again. I know this video is not about hair, but I keep wanting to say that.. sending lots of love 🙏

I love the long hair! Leave her alone, guys. This video is about Retin-A, not your opinion on how she should style her hair.

I am 65 and since as a very young child I always avoided being out in the sun. I do try to get some sun exposure every day for vitamin D. My dermatologist literally thought I was 10 years younger than my actual age. I am able to tolerate Trentinoin very well.
