I'm so thankful I found your channel. About two years I was developing cystic hormonal acne. I went to my primary doctor to ask for a refuel to an dermatologist just to be turned away. She told me they would not treat me for something as "small" as acne and that I'd basically waisting their time. Not knowing otherwise I thought that was true. So my acne continued to suffered for over another year till I found you. You have helped so much and my acne is going away, sadly I'm still burdened by scars and hyper pigmentation because of her misconduct. But I can't say thank you enough for putting this information out there, if I never found you I know I'd still be suffering from it.

This video has to be on your Best of Reel.....You blew my mind (and my regimen, in a good way). Why the heck am I using an expensive medical grade retinol? This video really gave me pause - about retinol and the health care provider I trust. My wallet and my face are so grateful. Sometimes when you're in a pro's chair you give up power. Instead, thanks to you, now I feel empowered.

In summary - if you can get prescription for Tretinoin (Retin A) - do it! BEST OPTION! Second best option is Adapalene (Differin over the counter) And the last option (if the other options don’t work for you) get a retinol product (like CeraVe resurfacing).

Thank you so much for putting in the time and effort to produce such valuable content! I have been watching your channel for a long time now and have changed so much of what I do as a result of learning from you. I was previously using Dermalogica a while back after having attended a few of their 'master classes.' After watching your channel, I've come to learn that 'less is more' and that I don't have to necessarily spend a ton of money to get quality skin care. My previous night time skin care routine consisted of 11 Dermalogica products: pre-cleanse, lactic acid cleanser, Rice enzyme powder, Anti-oxidant toner, vitamin C serum, eye cream, neck cream, mask, cocoon moisturizer, etc. I've now reduced my night time skin care regimen to just an oil based first cleanse, Cerave hydrating face wash, and the Cerave moisturizer and saved a TON of money. Sincere appreciation for all you do for your viewers!!!

If more derms were willing to put personal and often misogynistic attitudes aside and prescribe tretinoin then people would not waste so much money on less effective or ineffective OTC retinols. I am almost 40. I went to 2 different derms and 3 different PCP who told me that I didn't need to worry about fine lines yet. One who told me I needed to stop being so vain and worry about being a mother to my kids and come back when they were grown, one who told me he was tired of seeing women try so hard to stay young and that I was a such a pretty "girl" who needed to just age gracefully. I finally just went through Curology and got Tretinoin that way. There are still far too many barriers to effective treatment (for women in particular, in the US in particular) for antiaging and even acne. So people turn to cosmeceuticals because they feel like they have few other options.
@cassiebrown9786
@cassiebrown9786 5 жыл бұрын
Jennifermwb, you had a derm tell you to stop being so vain? That really made me LOL. I had a derm tell me one time I shouldn't waste his time, because I had the kind of skin the ten women in his office that morning would kill to have. That may be true, but I want to keep my skin looking nice for a long time. I'm 60 and had to learn to gather as much information on how to achieve good skin care health. I reference from this channel on occasion and occasionally beautypedia website. Good luck.

Jennifermwb That's shockingly unprofessional and dispicable treatment, and I'm so sorry you had to go through that! I had no idea you could get Tretinoin through Curology, so I looked into it more closely. From the looks of it, you're given a customized formula with three active ingredients. May I ask what formula you were "prescribed"? I really want to sign up for it for anti-aging, but I'm nervous about the inclusion of three different active ingredients all at once on my sensitive skin and mild rosacea. I really just want the Tretinoin and maybe Niacinamide, but even just starting Tretinoin alone would be intense enough.
@juliepoolie5494
@juliepoolie5494 4 жыл бұрын
Perfumaphilia There’s another subscription service called Dermatica that will put two actives in your formula. I have .05 tretinoin and 4% niacinamide and it works great! I’m sure you could get lower tretinoin percent too.

Julie Om thanks so much for sharing!!! Curology for some bizarre reason isn’t in my state yet?! So I’m going to check this company out now. I also want the Tretinoin and Niacinamide! Thank you!! ☺️ edit: my darn state!!! They do it in all the states around me except for mine! 🥴

I really hope that brands like the Ordinary and L'oreal start bringing out retinaldehyde products. The prices of the few on the market are above my budget. Thanks for thinking of us in the UK. You are correct in thinking the Avene product is on available here. Osmosis also do a retinaldehyde product but that's expensive too. Emma x

I am lucky enough to have a prescription for Tretinoin. Using Good Rx (here in the states) I was able to get a 45 gram tube of 0.05 for $59.00 this week. I noticed the Avene product you list is about the same amount for about half the product. I know people think Tretinoin is expensive but using a pea sized amount every night my tube lasts months.

I have a few variations of pustular psoriasis and sensitive skin. To make a long story short, I was convinced a natural skin care routine would improve my psoriasis and I quit my dermatologist, I would even go to the beach because I took the advice of a naturalist who said sunlight would improve my psoriasis, and, yes, it helped. STUPID, because I ended up with sun damaged irritated skin and very hard to treat psoriasis. Now I am on a dermatologist prescribed skin care routine and I started Differin about 6 weeks ago. I wanted to use tretinoin, but my dermatologist said to try Differin. My skin requires more moisture, but I tolerate Differin just fine.

Thank you doctor on your generous information, your chanel is such a treasure. As you mentioned there is no Avene RetinAL available in Europe, but we have Ystheal line by Avene available contianing retinaldehyde, would you recommend it?

Avene products with retinaldehyde *are* available in the EU, just with different names: ystheal, physiolift, etc. There's also geek& gorgeous. And for retinols the usual brands like the ordinary, inkey list and Paula's choice are also available

Avene equivalents I've found by comparing ingredients: - RetrinAL Advanced Wrinkle Corrector (15ml) = Physiolift Precision (in the EU) - RetrinAL 0.1 Intensive cream (30ml) = A-Oxitive Night Peeling Cream All Skin (in the EU) - RetrinAL 0.05 Cream (30ml) = YstheAL antiwrinkle cream (in the EU) is VERY close

Once again a very informative video! I was wondering if you could do a video on tips for soaking in the bath? Or epsom salt studies? I know soaking in hot water is probably not the best for my skin but I love doing it for soar muscles from the gym , relaxation and self care purposes. I lather on the cerave right after but just curious if there is anything else I can do while I’m the tub. Hope you have a great week ♥️

You are fantastic! Such awesome info. Would love your thoughts on Retin A Micro .08... My Derm didn’t really have a reason for what the difference is between it and Tretinoin. 🤔

Hi Dr Dray, love your channel! So informative! You might have mentioned this somewhere but I can’t find it.... but can you comment about benzoyl peroxide and it’s effectiveness in preventing wrinkles? I don’t have acne and I want to use retin a however I can’t find it where I live... I can only find benzoyl peroxide. Is it as good? How does it compare? Thank you!!

Another fantastic video! I have a question though, regarding the application of retinaldehyde containing products - Is there an issue with them losing efficacy due to vigorous smearing onto the face? I am aware of retinoids being not so stable however, I came across several videos from Avene instructing on applying their ystheal etrinal by barely touching the face which seemed like legerdemain.

Skin Script makes a retinaldehyde serum that comes in an airless pump bottle. Their webpage notes that they use: IconicA (Retinal/Retinaldehyde) 2.5% converted into 0.1% Retinaldehyde.
