Matt did not mention getting the bay squared away. This was my routine. Once wake-up happened I bolted to the sink to shave and brush, and saved my urinating until after those were done. Getting the sinks was a priority. Once done though, it was always time to fix my bunk, and sweep and mop the bay. My battle buddy and I would rotate out fixing our bunks. If I had the latrine first, he'd fix both our bunks. When I got back, I would continue what wasn't done and then fall in on cleaning the barracks in general. We had good teamwork, though. You're experience might vary.

Gabe Millz Gabe, I was in the best shape in my life after basic and even more so after AIT, but I think that's just because of my platoon Sargent's for that company, they were a couple of PT junkies. But yes, I had toned up quite a bit, lost at least 40 lbs and by the end of AIT I could jog at a steady pace for 4 miles comfortably.

Waking up in the morning was literally the worst part of Basic. You feel like you never get enough sleep and you wake up still groggy and feeling all warm and cozy under your blankets. Worst still is when you wake up only a short time before lights out. You are thinking its still the middle of the night and have at least a couple of hours of sleep left... but then you start hearing the sound of wall lockers opening and people shuffling around.. meaning that its lights on at any moment.

To expedite shaving and teeth brushing we made it a rule that you shaved at the most of the sinks but you a lot of times you were brushing your teeth with water from your canteen and spitting into one of the washing machines. At the end the house mouse (the person in charge of the cleaning supply closet) would dump a load of old cleaning rags and the rag mop heads. Then after PT or breakfast they went into the dryer and then after the other they went into supply closet. Plus we made it a platoon rule that everyone shaved at night too

I understand why physical training is the worst and also the best time becoming a soldier especially during this segment that you explained. The exercise is pretty simple but it becomes very challenging when you have people who cannot perform or keep up with the rest of the group. Also in addition they are trying to condition your body for endurance. To my understanding a scenario could be you are in the jungle hanging by a tree branch and the enemy is below or above you searching for you. You must be able to hold your weight as long as you can in certain angles for as long as you can without detection. Also you described on how it is waking up in the morning. I have somewhat familiar understanding of this method because I have six brothers and two sisters and there was only two bathrooms and one bathroom was for my mother and stepfather and the other bathroom was for all of my brothers and sisters so getting up and getting ready for school on time dressed and eat breakfast time went very fast. Once you are accustomed on how your day will go it will not be easy but you will be able to endure the challenges because you have been conditioned to endure the punishment that comes with the responsibility every day furthermore you hold yourself accountable to show up on time ready without excuse or everybody gets their ass kicked for being late. Excuse me for my language but it is true. Thank you for this video.

Rather then have 40 people trying to use 10 sinks like a bunch of individuals, assign everyone to 1 of 3 teams. Team one uses the sinks first then makes bunks, team 2 sweeps and mops the bay then uses the sinks. Team 3 helps do anything else that must be done then uses and cleans the sinks before heading to formation. Each week switch out the teams to keep things fair. That way everyone is always doing something, which will make life so much easier. Not only that but it gives each team accountability so you know who is fucking up if the bay or sinks are not clean.

I went through OSUT basic in October 1996 at Ft Leonard Wood and I still remember it vividly, and the guys in my platoon. Back then it was a lot tougher than how it is now; this I know from guys I went through with that serve still, or videos on youtube of basic and by talking to other guys that have gone through recently. It depends on who you are, but for me Basic was easy. 1) Sleep was a luxury and we didnt get much of it. 2) At chow, your appetite was out of control and the food was good. 3) When you first ship out from reception to your company, everyone in your platoon is your buddy, but by the end of your OSUT training cabin fever has set in and everyone wants to kill each other. 4) Never, EVER, volunteer for anything. 5) Keep a low profile. 6) Dont bring shit you wont need when you ship out from your home state to your basic training station; when you get to your unit for basic and go through shakedown, they will find any reason they can to make you look like an idiot. 7) If you arent running yet, start now. I'm a runner now, I was then and I was in high school. I ran a 5:29 mile and 12:26 2 mile time in PT tests and I couldn't believe how fast we ran in our ability group runs; it sucked ass. 8) You'll be in a lot of classroom training, and the drill sergeants love to turn the heat up so you fall asleep, and you will. Remember these simple things and you will coast right on through. Drill sergeants are only doing their jobs; its not personal, and its only momentary. You will get smoked, you will get screamed at and shouted at, but thats what they get paid to do. Your biggest challenges are not falling asleep when on guard duty, and avoiding fights with your buddies. Falling asleep on fire guard is the worst thing you can do.

Our wakeup is typically 0530, so we get up at 0430. In this time we do hygiene, make bunks, square away our lockers for inspection, and do final polish runs on cleaning. We are standing at ready-line (center area of our bay) by 0525. After this, we do PT together out in our gravel pit, then head inside to change out and get ready for training for the day. Sometimes we include a heat-dump (a ~10s cold shower to cool off) if we've been doing a bit extra because our battle-buddies love to make sure we're fit.

We mostly did the 60/120sec variation. The 60 seconds of running full tilt really got hard since we were doing it for awhile and there were times we had a DS following us and he'd pick people out and make them start the 60sec run over again until they could do it without letting up. Also the showers sucked - we had less people, but less showers (plenty of sinks, toilets etc) and I was doing Basic when we were getting lets of rain in Australia - brutal. We were in mostly grass, so it was muddy and I think I might have gotten one actual shower after morning trainings so all I could really do was put my towel into one of the sinks and wash myself that way but then my towel was f*cked.

Thanks Matt. Just found your channel. I was wondering if you know the difference between Navy and Army basic traning. I always wanted to join the Navy but couldn't because I became diabetic when I was a teen.

The best I can recommend to you is just looking up and looking into it yourself there are also a few good KZbinrs on here that do some videos on all that but if you're able to keep your diabetes in control for at least as long as you're in basic there shouldn't be much of a problem you just need to be able to go through base that can be off any medicines are all that for a month I believe it is don't quote me on that I haven't looked at that section in a while

Hunter Cato Sadly, diabetes, and other major chronic conditions, is a automatic disqualifier 99.999...% of the time, if not all the time. You can’t have any meds at basic at all, it’s true, but honestly, enlisting is almost like a business transaction, very close to our healthcare system in general. They don’t want to pay out for anyone, so they make double, triply, sure that you’re damn close to perfect health. I speak as someone going through this as we speak.

A regular pushup is between 70-75% of your body weight, dropping to your knees reduces the percentage body weight to 54-62%. It's less weight, yes, but you are still pushing weight

If you wake up late you won't have much time to brush your teeth, shave, or make your bunk. But most of all you'll be rushing to get downstairs and may forget either your PT belt and headgear. If you forget those you'll get the whole platoon in trouble.
@Mike-lh4wn
@Mike-lh4wn Жыл бұрын
You won't wake up late. There will be like 50 other guys getting up and rumbling around getting ready. Unless you can sleep through a jackhammer. Also, we were too busy and und3r constant supervision to ever have a blanket party. Everyone is too busy dealing with their own stuff to worry about you.
