I wanted to ask about the XR1703HR. They are rated for 25hz. This is the lowest frequency response for a speaker this size I have seen advertised and is even a lower response than most 10”-12”car subwoofers. Most 6” range speakers are rated to 40-50hz. What is the DB+- roll off and at which frequency does roll off start? Are there frequency response graphs posted somewhere because I am extremely interested in these speakers. Why would I need a sub with these as 25hz is more than exceptional for car audio it’s downright amazing.

The frequency response is what the speaker is capable of reproducing. A subwoofer is designed to maintain playback in the given low range frequencies, and is suggested in combination with these speakers.

That’s why I was interested in seeing a response graph. Just because a speaker can “reproduce” a frequency (in this case 25hz), if this response is something like -40db below the shelved response of (40hz/50hz->10khz) then it’s not exactly representative of the realistic capabilities of the speaker. I see on the website that it is rated 25hz-48khz (-10db). What is the -10db referring to? A -10 dB fall off at the 48khz? If so -10db starting from where? 20khz? Or is it -10db at 25hz. If so starting from where? 80hz? Any speaker can reproduce any frequency. It’s all about the speaker extrusion and the volume of space they are trying to pressurize. I’m sure even the KFC-P710PS (63hz-24khz) can technicality reproduce 25hz, but it’s all relative. They are not marketed as such, but the XR-1703hr are marketed as a speaker reaching 25hz. I’m just asking what the DB falloff is in relationships to the speakers level response ie the point where spl is stable over a range of frequencies (25hz= -x dB < 80hz? to 10khz?) Just looking for more data. Thanks

can my factory car stereo be okay with these speakers or do I need an amplifier?
@KenwoodUSA
@KenwoodUSA 3 жыл бұрын
Maya Kofinoff, you can use these with a Factory stereo as long as the impedance was correct ( 4ohm Final ) and the OEM system is not crossed over. They are designed to be used with an amplifier for best performance and to reproduce the Hi-Res output. Thanks!

What’s the point of reproducing sounds up to 40khz? Normal human range is 20hz - 20khz. Best case scenario is young person with super hearing maybe can hear up to 28khz. Sounds like a gimmick to me.

Good question... and here is the answer: Although many cannot hear much above 20kHz, there is a wall where the sound completely drops out at higher levels on traditional speakers. With reproducing sounds up to 40kHz, this wall doesn't exist and there is a smooth roll-off of sound for all hearing types.

@@KenwoodUSA Thanks for that excellent response above - I hear the difference in Hi-Res music and it's huge to me. It's difficult to explain it to others who don't hear the difference or just don't care. For me, the best explanation I've come up with is to compare sound to vision - show a hi-res image then, do to that image what an MP3 would to music and they get it. Light bulb turns on. A visual helps.

Hi-Res also records at a higher bitrate than CD quality and is considered a benchmark of Sound quality in Lossless formats. Achieving a higher frequency response allows for more toning headroom and more nuance. Thanks!
