Brilliant idea. Also when learning just practice on photocopies of design with no fabric or thread in the needle

Can these be printed on newsprint weight paper instead? It might be easier to remove.
@LeahDay8 ай бұрын
I'm using 20 pound copy paper, but you'r welcome to try any weight you like! I didn't find that lighter weight paper made it particularly easier, but it did make it more $$$!
@stineandscott6 ай бұрын
Which do you prefer to mark a stencil onto the quilt or use these paper ones?
@LeahDay6 ай бұрын
Honestly - paper! Marking takes more time and involves removing the marks afterward. After playing with the paper stencils, I've really fallen in love with using them and they are so quick and easy to print, place and stitch!
@kfaz39799 ай бұрын
This is awesome!! I checked out your website and love the designs. Question: can you adjust each design to be larger or smaller? Do we receive different sizes when ordering? Or do we adjust at our own printer? Lovely quilt BTW!
@LeahDay9 ай бұрын
I'm including only one size / scale with the Continuous Line style designs - large scale, open quilting - similar to what you would get from a longarm quilter. Yes, if you wanted to, you could shrink the design smaller using printer settings.... but smaller will result in more time and a denser feeling quilt. I hope that helps!
@wildheart50868 ай бұрын
Never saw that. Would like to try it. May be Expensive for a large quilt.
@LeahDay8 ай бұрын
You only have to pay for the stencil one time. Then it's just a matter of printing the design multiple times.
@micheledowson50099 ай бұрын
Will you be having printable purchases Leah?
@LeahDay9 ай бұрын
I’m not planning on offering a print version because you will need to have so many copies for your quilts. The PDF download works better because you can print as many copies as you need for a particular quilt!
@meshleman68218 ай бұрын
Does this method fuss with the thread tension? i wonder, after removing the paper that the stitches wouldn't be as tight on the quilting as needed.
@LeahDay8 ай бұрын
I didn’t have an issue with that, but I do recommend making smaller stitches. This means running the machine faster and moving your hands slower.
@colleend29775 ай бұрын
So what is considered a smaller stitch? I am new to quilting my own and love this! So much more visible than pounce.

Doesn't the paper ruin the point of your needles? How often are you replacing them?
@LeahDay8 ай бұрын
I use longarm needles on this machine and no, I didn’t find it caused extra wear. It’s generally a good idea to change needles with every quilt and give your machine a clean and oil too.

Do you keep the feed dogs engaged with this method?
@LeahDay9 ай бұрын
With this sewing machine, you cover the feed dogs with the quilting needle plate. The feed dogs stay engaged, but do not touch your quilt. On other home sewing machines, I still leave the feed dogs up and change my stitch length to 0 or the lowest setting. That will basically do the same thing and stop the feed dogs from pulling against you.

Can these be used on longarm?
@LeahDay9 ай бұрын
A sit down longarm, yes. If you are using a longarm on a frame, a pantograph is more common and popular to use because you won’t have to tear the paper the paper away.
@brigitteligons-reed61679 ай бұрын
I asked this same question before I saw this post. My longarm is on a Cutie frame and it's impossible to work from the rear with a pantograph so I purchased the stencils. I hope they will work. I'm not bothered by having to tear the paper off.

And . . . You can see what you’re doing, on the paper, and where you’ve been. Just on the quilt itself, it can be hard to see your stitching, unless you use contrasting thread. 🧵
@LeahDay8 ай бұрын
Yes, that's often the trouble with teaching free motion quilting. I have to contrast thread so you can see what I'm doing, but most quilters don't like this. When quilting through paper, it's very obvious where you've already stitched!
