Thr problem is weve been conditioned to believe a certain way. Thats the way the strength and conditioning community work. First it carbs vs no carbs, high intensity vs low steady state, heavy weights vs higher volume diffrent body part splits , the window of opportunity myth with protein powder and finally the only way to supposably be stronger was with the big 3 lifts yet i realised over the years with all of the equipment that ive used including had the privilege to play collegiate sport ive learned its never that simple.

3:10 finally somebody combines both sets into one uber set! This is what I have been doing. I even upgraded the handles to some commercial gym grade ones as I found the webbing on the cheap handles rubbed on my hand making it sore sometimes.

When you are done just doing play-time workouts and want the next level muscle size&strength then check out the DIY video's i have on KZbin. CHECK OUT by clicking on my green icon and expanding to see some outrageous video's of bands in cool applications. My trainee & myself complete a 15 set arm curl routine in a DIY concentration curling machine while finishing with a last set of 130 pounds each arms. What i have done is use 10 lbs. bands(actually if stretched under 70" these micro-mini's measure out at 7 lbs. Each set is a seconds time to and 7 pounds a set.

Great video! At what length do the resistance levels occur? For example, how far do I need to pull the 15 lb band to actually feel 15 pounds? This is helpful if I want to increase the resistance from, say, 15 to 17 lbs but not 20 lbs, or to start at 10 lbs and not 15 lbs. In other words, I almost feel I should get a weight scale to "calibrate" distances so that I don't overwork a muscle. Thanks for answering!

Hello Toney, I would say to do it by "feel". Pull to band to a spot that seems to put enough tension on your muscles but not too much tension. This spot may be different for everyone, depending on their level of fitness. You can then adjust how far you pull the band as you get stronger and more comfortable with the movement.

I picked up what I thought was a resistant/tension band at a yard sale but it has TWO identical handles on EACH end and some plastic doo-dads that can be slid around on the rope. Does anyone have any idea what I have???

I would start with the tube bands with some handles. I think they a bit easier to work with for beginners.

I don't fully understand how to work with resistance bands. Bands have a range of resistance for eg 7 to 14 kg. How do I know how much weight am I pulling at any given time? How do I Know that I am pulling the maximum weight at the end of my movement? Also, Is the given range of resistance for a single strand or two strands taken together ? If one strand is 14 Kg then does grabbing two strands make it 14+14= 28 kg? What about looping the band under my feet and grabbing two Strands in each hand? Am I pulling 28+28 =56 Kg now?

Hello Expeditioner, I will try to answer your questions. If you are using a band with 2 handles and it is rated at 14kg, at the maximum, each handle should be providing 14kg of resistance, however, some companies may rate their bands differently. If you are using a loop band, without handles, that is rated at say 20kg, and you step on the middle of the band and pull at both ends, each side should be providing 10kg of resistance at maximum tension. I wouldn't really worry about the kg of tension, use them to the point where you feel a significant demand on the muscle you are working, while going through the full range of motion for that muscle. You may have to play with the positioning of the band, or the positioning of your body to get to this point. As far as how much weight you are pulling at any given time, as an example 7 to 14kg band, when you first start to feel some tension, that should be around 7kg, and when you have pulled that to a maximum point, that should be 14kg. So, the tension increases as you pull the band further away from its starting point. Hopefully that answers your questions.

You can buy metal handles with hooks on Amazon which are better especially if you want to do dead lifts with bands. Bands can be tough on your hands at first but there are work around like the handles. I started with the tubes and now using bands and I feel much safer with them. Also you can shift the resistance on the fly with bands much easier than tube types. But each to their own I say and find your own way.

Bands are great bought the schmitty bands that go up to 300lb. With free weights i bench 315 yet the bands kick my ass i can row my 160lb dumbbell yet i cant row my heaviest band also i can lunge 265 with one leg and have 30in leg yet with my black band i can only do one. So bands are easier? Guess not

I bought those handle resistance bands, and honestly, I was so disappointed. They’re so light and fragile and were so worthless for gains (for me).
